amy_runs Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Warner Music paid an independent Surry Hills company, Mr Perso & Detch, to create the graffiti advertising campaign. At least one large mural, in Newtown, has already attracted the ire of local street artists - with the words "cash cow" now scrawled over the top.Read the rest here http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music...-Sydney-councilWhat do you think?
farley drexel hatcher Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 ^ Cash cow is an expression, basically milking it for what it's worth (money). To be honest this whole thing is a bit much. I think just having the picture and no words would have been better. It does reek of bad advertising
Peace and Rainbows Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Just keep the pictures. Don't put cash cow on it it ruins it!
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 This is fucked up. I think those paintings are awesome. People have way too many issues these days. It's not like it's offending anyone.
Katarina. Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 WTF? I like those pictures! They shouldn't put cash cow or whatever on it! >.<
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I think people are annoyed because Warner's didn't get permission from the councils to put adverts on public graffiti places reserved for artists. Apparently, they just assumed the PR company they paid got it without actually checking.
Sharmellow Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I can understand how people may hate Green Day, but to go as for as spray painting cash cow is a bit much. But on Sydney's defense, they could have left '21st Century Breakdown' off and just have the picture of Gloria and Christian. It would have been more significant that way.
Nova-Caine Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I think people are annoyed because Warner's didn't get permission from the councils to put adverts on public graffiti places reserved for artists. Apparently, they just assumed the PR company they paid got it without actually checking.Well if that's true then Warner/Green Day are probably going to come under fire for vandalism. We all know you should never assumed anything in life and someone at Warner should have made sure permission had been obtained.
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 There's another article on it here: http://www.streetcorner.com.au/news/showPo...0&mycomm=WC
Lady Liberty Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Worst things have happened to better graffiti.
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Read the rest here http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music...-Sydney-councilWhat do you think?Well, if I had the kind of bank accounts that Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre undoubtedly do by now, I'd just have one word to say:"MOO!"
Guest Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Well, if I had the kind of bank accounts that Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre undoubtedly do by now, I'd just have one word to say:"MOO!" haha this equals
fashionvictim86 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Man, people just need something to bitch about or they are not happy. The band probably didn't even know about the murals. Warner is supposed to take care of advertising.
louizex Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 graffiti is awsome! altho..... i can see why the council would be annoyed with the whole 'cash cow' thing. and did they have to put 21st century breakdown on it? it would have looked much better without it
Ginny Weasley Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I think it's great, Warner finally got a taste of their own medicine. was about time
Hermione Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I'd say "cash cow" is aimed more at Warner than Green Day themselves, and they do kind of have a point about that. And it's not really graffiti when it's just there to advertise something and make money for a massive record company so I can understand the complaint there too.
Juan Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 in all fairness, it's kinda true. Look at all the deluxe editions, all the single sand boxsets and all that jazz. Cash Cow indeed
kidney Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 as a fan it's pretty cool to see the graffiti although at the same time the approach to this type of promotion is just too in your face.. and not to mention unsolicited.
dallasthemenace Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 i think its more about making money off graffiti art, angering the "purists" of the style....the katz who tag and do pieces on their own...im actually surprised we havent seen shit-loads of defacing the GD art....i figured it would have its own thread by now "21st century vandalism"
madie Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 It was obviously some tool that thinks Green Day are sell outs.
watsername182 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I'm gonna go to Newton this Sunday to see if I can find it.It's ridiculous. The graffiti art in Newton usually doesn't get ruined.
norcalgreendayfan Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 It was obviously some tool that thinks Green Day are sell outs.Yeah it probably is some douche who use the sell out label for Green Day and those type of people suck
**kookai** Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I have been looking for that wall on the train ride to the city, I haven't seen it in weeks.....anyway, Warner Bros make enough money from the band
