So awesome, i think they got Christian and Gloria perfect, so much better than I imagined (:I would like Eas Jesus Nowhere to be the next single and video, that would be uber epic! Ila Reto Posted June 28, 2009 Share Posted June 28, 2009 saw it for the first time this morning on VH1 top 20. after what may have been the worst day of my life so far yesterday, i just cried my eyes out the whole time watching it (it was about 5 mins after i woke up). just as i had expected, the video has grown on me. i mean, i still dont see the point in most of it, but at least now i know why they were being shot at and why the police were outside (to my understanding, Christian had robbed a bank).and i figured out today that he's done that lip twitch thing before...i think in Warning... I havn't seen the making of the video yet so...maybe I'm missing something but here's what I thought about it. I honestly had tears in my eyes...I thought it was amazing. To me it's about finding love within the chaos that surrounds you (hence Christian and Gloria making out while everything's exploding). Whether this love is within yourself or with someone else...just accepting the chaos and destruction that is your life and not trying to hide from it anymore. I think the video represented the song perfectly...which doesn't happen a lot anymore. I think they matched the actors to the characters with amazing accuracy! Spastic Socialite Posted June 29, 2009 Share Posted June 29, 2009 I personally love the video; it encapsulates the song perfectly.I mean look at the cameramanship- the 360 turn around billie , the pyrotechnics, the lighting change- its a work of brilliant cinematography!!and as for the characters; they fit the bill perfectly- i love how the video referenced the album cover, only real green day fans would notice that and the lyrics to see the light on the wall.Thats whats so brilliant about this video, its the little things that make it so brilliant. If you approach the song as if it was supposed to be an anti-war song like Holiday, the video doesn't fit it at all. If you look at it as "the world is a disaster, all we have is each other, so we might as well accept it/embrace it/suck it up (and suck face) and deal with it", the vid seems to fit it a little better. While I'm happy to have any opportunity to see the band perform (and I *love* the behind-the-scenes look, some of the material and interviews they captured are priceless!), I'm feeling mostly neutral about the 21G vid....not bad, but not great either when you compare it to vids like Holiday (the out-of-control car as symbolic of the USA going berserk during the Bush years) and Walking Contradiction (with the crashing vehicles and juvenile pranks)....methinks the director could have done a little better with this one. The song has so many layers I doubt any one could have done it justice tbh. I just don't think the final video made any sense at all. I do think that two video's in to the album things are not good on a video level.Also whether we take it from the point of view of the whole world being a disaster and all we have is each other, I think it would have been nicer had some background to the 'room scene' been offered to the viewer, because whether the director was attempting to offer us this scenario it didn't work in my opinion. I would also have liked to see the two main characters turned into their graffiti counterparts during 'the kiss', maybe i'm just not into watching teens kiss or something but whilst others melted at it I cringed. I also didn't get the whole bank robbery approach a la Bonnie and Clyde from watching any of that. So I see what you mean about not completely getting what they were going for, however I still enjoy the video. Its just missing something, and most likely is something between christian and gloria. I'm curious on how he would interpret 21 Guns. I bet it would be 5x better than this one.In my opinion, anyway. I thought this video was alright.
