J'net Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Murder City was written, recorded, and added to the album at the "last minute." It was originally called Desperate. What does this song add to the rest of the album, in your opinion?
Princess Consuela Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 'Last minute' songs happen to be the best! I prefer live version, though.
badwolf Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I just started listening to this. I love how it connects to ¿Viva La Gloria?. It's just right. And yes, last minute songs are indeed the best.
SlappyDJ1 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 another great song. Its so catchy and it goes well with the story.
.Brian Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 it's a great song, but 'desperate' fits better i think.'murder city' sounds very american idiotish
rootbeersoup Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 It's basically a song about living in a post-riot environment, aka "Murder City"It's my most listened-to song so far
Comrade Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 It's my most listened-to song so farSame. I love it. One of my top three from the album. After hearing the live version before the release, it was the song I wanted to hear most.
Anja Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I like the meaning that´s behind that song. It always makes me think of my time in Oakland and that I didn´t like that (murder) city that much :/ lolIt´s one of my favorite songs on the new album with its catchy melody and the lyrics and everything. I´m glad they added it to the album last minute!!!I remember listening to the streaming about a week before the album came out while driving in the car with my friend through, I think it was Pinole or Rodeo. I love listening to great music in the car when it´s hot and sunny outside And that´s a perfect song to do it. Love, love, love this song <3 <3 <3
tuwlol Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 It's being "last minute" adds to the vibe of the song, desperate and energetic. As for adding to the album, it's one of the most "fun" songs and brings humor to the album, I'd say.
amy_runs Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 To me, this song is pure, classic Green Day. And I am completely in love with it.
Ila Reto Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 im in love with this song, it makes so much sense. this whole album is surrounding Gloria & Christian living in the 'murder city' and it really captures how they're feeling at that point in their lives. The record wouldn't be complete without it, it has a certain element that shows #1 the situation of them feeling useless in the world, and #2 what's happening in their relationship. the lyrics "Christian's crying in the bathroom, and i just wanna bum a cigarette" forms a really detailed picture in my mind every time i hear it, like Christian in that 7-11 bathroom and it's showing Gloria from the outside lighting up a fag.and i can relate too. it's like "great, he's starting to feel drained and hurt, crying his eyes out because he knows there's something better but it's out of reach, and now im just sitting here, useless, wasted, and i just need a fucking cigarette or a hit or something because this is too much weight for me to bare". i dont know, thats just how it is to me. Why must all my favortie songs be so short?
Robin105 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Idk I don't like this song as much as the others. It's a good song though but I think this is my least favorite
Luci_Minority Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 When I fist listen to it I didn't like it but after some listen now I like it xD Maybe will be a single...
Anja Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 the lyrics "Christian's crying in the bathroom, and i just wanna bum a cigarette" forms a really detailed picture in my mind every time i hear it, like Christian in that 7-11 bathroom and it's showing Gloria from the outside lighting up a fag.I have that image of Christian (or let´s say Jimmy actually) in that 7-11 bathroom in my head, too every time I hear this line. It´s crazy.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Awesome song, one of my favorites on the album. It's the only song I listened before I got the album. It was a live track and I fell in love with it. (I quit listening it though after a while, with the whole 21CB Virgin thing xD). I like it better live then on the album, but it's great anyway.
norcalgreendayfan Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I have that image of Christian (or let´s say Jimmy actually) in that 7-11 bathroom in my head, too every time I hear this line. It´s crazy.I dunno I picture as them being in their apartment and Christians locked him self in the bathroom while hes crying and Gloria just wants him to come out so she can get a cigarette off of him or something like it
Clockwise Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 This song is great, it really is classic Green Day
Heather! Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 It's being "last minute" adds to the vibe of the song, desperate and energetic. As for adding to the album, it's one of the most "fun" songs and brings humor to the album, I'd say.Humor? This is my favorite of the album right now. I love both the album and live versions, although when I saw it on Carson Daly I wanted to cry, it was so good. Especially when he says, "and we're so pathetic..."To me, it has this overwhelming sense of loneliness along with it. Strikes a lot of emotion into me every time I listen.
Teenage Kicks! Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 "added at the last minute" Fuckin punk rock! Hahahaone of the catchy-ist song ever.I love the way he like over exaggerates the "IC" and the end of pathetic.
Haydée Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Great song. I love the "so pathetic", the song's just amazing..
Drink Drank Punk Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 The first time I heard this song was when I saw them at the DNA Lounge a couple months ago...I was amazed. that is all.
GTI Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Love it. Easily in my top 3 favorites.I hope Billie does a full acoustic version sometime, like on Good Morning America even though it wasn't the whole thing.
music_that_is Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I started to get bored of it these days because I listened this song the most from the album. But I still love it.When Billie sings the part "Christian's cryingIn the bathroom", it reminds me of the time I was in depression, when I waited everyone to sleep and went to my room to cry until I fell asleep.
AtTheLibrary19 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 This song caught my eye immediately (probably cause it was the first one leaked on youtube), and I immediately knew this was going to be one of my favorites. Some friends of mine have criticized it for it's repetitiveness and how predictable it is, but I love that fact about it. It's just a really straight forward melodic punk rock song that never gets out of my fucking head
