AmericanIdiot222 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Yesterday, Me and my friend Matt were discussing 21st Century Breakdown. And he brought up a very interesting point. He said that KYE could have been written years ago. He said it sounds like it could have come off of Dookie or Nimrod. What do you guys think?
Marlon_GD Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Yesterday, Me and my friend Matt were discussing 21st Century Breakdown. And he brought up a very interesting point. He said that KYE could have been written years ago. He said it sounds like it could have come off of Dookie or Nimrod. What do you guys think? There was some article that listed all of the songs and gave short summaries of the songs (this was before the release of 21CB)They mentioned it could easily have been a Dookie outtake. Here it isI was thinking of an other article, actually... meeh. But I don't know... I don't think it is...
RebelofSuburbia Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 hm maybe musicwise.. but definetly not lyricwise
Sister of Grace Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 hmm maybe. Personally I find it hard to see it on Dookie.
chickin'pickin' Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 If I was unaware as to Green Day's work and heard Know your enemy, and then was told it's like their older stuff, I'd be put off of the Green Day back catalogue for life.
chickin'pickin' Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Well it's true. Know our enemy is crap, and well their previous work isn't.I find it insulting to them, to be quite honest.
Nova-Caine Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I am also confused by the choice of singles, there are much better songs on the album than the two chosen.
DistilledxSpirits Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Lights Out sounds more like a Dookie outtake than KYE...
chickin'pickin' Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I am also confused by the choice of singles, there are much better songs on the album than the two chosen. Agreed.
Guest Hayley Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 21 guns is pretty good but yeah there are some better songs.
Peter. Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Well it's true. Know our enemy is crap, and well their previous work isn't.Plus KYE is to soft and poppy to be on Dookie imo.
Nele Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Nah, not really. I could never imagine KYE between songs like Basket Case and She...
RogueBreakdown Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 NO sorry no way!Lyrically definitely not, musically a very slim chance....I just don't think KYE could be on those albums along with all those EPIC songs. And personally KYE is the worst song on the album
**Maria** Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 No wayI am also confused by the choice of singles, there are much better songs on the album than the two chosen. Agreed, I'm confused too
amy_runs Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I think KYE was chosen as the first single because it's the obvious choice out of all the songs on the record. It's simple, and it's Green Day. It might not be the best song, but it speaks for itselfAnd to answer the thread question, not Dookie, but maybe later.
DeJennsitized Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I'm not sure if it would fit on any of their previous albums, but I'm one of the few people who love Know Your Enemy. I think it was the perfect first single; simple and powerful. I'm just a sucker for a distorted guitar riff, I guess. Actually, I sort of thought for a second it could be from Insomniac, but on second thought, the guitar sound is completely different.
Clockwise Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Billie Joe did say he had that riff for quite a while before a song came out of it.
Miqui_Dee Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Oh hell no. Know Your Enemy is crap. Their older stuff is golden. The end.
Boston Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 The music could have, but the lyrics are modern Green Day.
MrGreenDayUK Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Jesus, what's with all the KYE hate. I really like it. Jase will kill me but it sounds like The Clash. Take it in the context of the other songs. Every album needs its singalong stomper.
