Lauren
When I got the new album, I thought it was great. One of the things I didn't like, however, was that some of the songs sounded very similar to other ones!So I made this thread on www.greendayforum.net and thought I'd put it up on here, as there are more people here who can contribute.Do any of the songs off of 21CB remind you of any other songs? Either lyrically, musically, melodically, rhythmically, etc.Post what you think here. They don't have to be just similar to other Green Day songs... if you think a song sounds like another band, post it here too!Song Of The Century21st Century BreakdownKnow Your Enemy¡Viva La Gloria!-Sounds like "Letterbomb" (everyone and their mother)Before The Lobotomy-The beginning sounds a bit like the beginning of "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who. (Foxboro Hot Tubs)Christian's Inferno-Are you sure this isn't really The Network? (Lauren)Last Night On EarthEast Jesus NowherePeacemaker-Could this be from Warning? (Lauren)Last Of The American GirlsMurder City¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl)-Reminds me a little bit of "Misery" at some parts. (Lauren)-The beginning sounds similar to "Mama" by My Chemical Romance. (lockandload_xx)Restless Heart Syndrome-Intro sounds a bit like "Karma Police" by Radiohead. (Mauri)Horseshoes And Handgrenades-Guitar has a similar chord progression and rhythm to "Walking Contradiction" and the bridge of "Haushinka". (Lauren)-Sounds almost exactly like "Pieces of Truth" by The Foxboro Hottubs. (AndrewSOn)-Same chord progression as the bridge in "Prosthetic Head". (Juan)-Sounds almost exactly like "Main Offender" by The Hives. (RebelOfSuburbia)-The lyric when Billie spells out G-L-O-R-I-A is from Patti Smiths song named (oddly enough) Gloria. (trejack101)The Static Age-The chorus reminds me of "Church on Sunday". (Mauri)-The bridge sounds like the chorus of I Fought The Law. LISTEN HERE! (Lauren) 21 Guns-The solo sounds exactly like the Full House Theme song. (Lauren)-The drums sound like the drums in "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". (maltripeocrippled)American EulogyMass Hysteria:-The verse sounds like "Deadbeat Holiday". (gdpunkdude)-The verse sounds like "Westbound Sign". (Lauren)-I think the "Vigilantes warning you. Calling Christian and Gloria" part sounds like the "You're not the Jesus of Suburbia" part of Letterbomb. (communitykid)Modern Age:See The Light-The chorus sounds like "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC. (Lauren)-The chorus sounds like "Rock-n-Roll All Night" by KISS. (Lauren)-Reminds me of "Social Suicide" by Bad Religion. (Juan)B-sides:Hearts CollideLights Out-The verse sounds like it could be a Network song. (Lauren)-The chorus sounds almost exactly like "Fashion Victim". (Lauren)I'll keep editing this post with everyone's thoughts.

I just think it's kind of weird they sound similar to so many songs... where as older Green Day songs I can't think of anything. The Disappearing Boy
i would probably say that this is the only green day record which has songs on it which could comfortably fit into previous albums.eg. peacemaker or little girl could easily fit into waring, 21st cb and 21 guns could go onto AI etc... Juan
exactly...and people say this album is so new and different and they liked Green Day before not really, one of the things I like most about this album is that it's Green Day on familiar territory yet it's expanded, take !Viva la Gloria! for example, it's standard Green Day but with a nice piano intro, or American Eulogy, same Vintage Green Day but it¡'s not as straight up as it was 10 years ago. Of course the album still has its nice never before seen moments like Irish Gigs, Falsettos and more
