iHasan Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I wanted to know if almost all the vocals on AI and 21st CB are computerized form?I know they had been using computer to change the vocals a bit like american idiot(song),she's a rebel, east jesus nowhere etcwhat I wanted to know is that in the songs "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "21 Guns",vocals are computerized or are they pure natural billie joe vocals:D
SlappyDJ1 Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I really dont know. they probably do that with all vocals.
TheMinority16 Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I think 21stCB has more of BJ's pure vocals cause he sounds so similar when singing live. American Idiot is somewhat computerized, similar to Christian's Inferno, a little.Ones like Before the Lobotomy and !VLG! are absolutely pure(intro parts).
Lauren Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Part of the reason 21CB sucks is that the vocals seem so fake. I understand using effects for something like Christian's Inferno, or bits of songs like American Idiot. But as a whole, it doesn't sound good. at all. Like hearing Murder City live was AMAZING... I thought for sure it'd be the best song on the album (right after Viva La Gloria!). But I hear it on the album, and the vocals just suck!
Sharmellow Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 They probably do it to all their songs. That's why I love live performances much more than studio.

Fulano Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Someday i was thinking that Billie Joe had his voice computadorized on 21 guns...I thought that on the song the falsetto was DIGITAL...'cuz live, billie can't do falsetto [if i'm right]maybe i'm thinking too far...but is this.?!?i really dont know.
Waffles Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Yes, in 21CB it seems vocals are fake, not all of them but a part.
lupy Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Someday i was thinking that Billie Joe had his voice computadorized on 21 guns...I thought that on the song the falsetto was DIGITAL...'cuz live, billie can't do falsetto [if i'm right]I think Billie probably managed the falsetto once and then they just looped that part over and over.As for the other vocals, I honestly don't think they computerize them that much. He sounds very similar live to on the cd to me.
Fulano Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Chistian's Inferno maybe is their most "digitalized" song.
Waffles Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Chistian's Inferno maybe is their most "digitalized" song.Agreed
Kingunderpants Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Billie can do falsetto, but I read that he doesn't do it live because he doesn't want to mess up. It's tough to pull off. I'm sure it took many takes in the studio to get everything right. But on the last chorus on SNL, he does pull off the falsetto once. So he can definitely do it.And yeah, Green Day use a lot of auto-tune, but so do a lot of bands. If it makes it sound better, then have at it. Just as long as it isn't overused.
Fulano Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Agreedwhen green day played the whole album on secrets shows and thirty seconds videos was on youtube...I heard the CHRISTIAN's INFERNO 30's video and i thought "I'm excited to hear the album version, this will be my favorite song on the album"When the whole full-lenght album was on internet to hear online i was so fucking disappointed.Billie can do falsetto, but I read that he doesn't do it live because he doesn't want to mess up. Fulano Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 So, it's way better the original voice than the digitalized one?I'm going to search that on Youtube.for this song i think that Billie original voice is better.
Kingunderpants Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 but maybe is a bit hard to do falsetto live...You mean exactly what I said? Right.
AtTheLibrary19 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I think most of it is real Billie, but yeah certainly Christian's Inferno and the "so pathetic" of Murder City there is tons of vocal distortion. Billie definitely can hit falsetto, I don't think it was a one time thing. He just doesn't do it live because it's real hard to pull of right on the spot. Although, I've seen some live videos of songs like Before The Lobotomy, where he does the falsetto type parts in the beginning ballad part. There's no doubt that he can do it, I think it's just difficult live. I remember in one live video where he was trying to do a falsetto part he pushed his ear monitor thing way into his ear to make sure he could hear himself. It's easy to sing normally surrounded by a loud huge band, not as easy to hit more unnatural high notes with all of the other noise.
Bryn Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Well some songs have very obvious vocal effects. I think there is a lot more of Billie's natural voice on "21st Century Breakdown", and I love it. He has such an incredible voice. To get back to the question, yes there are vocal effects.
Juan Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 well, maybe some notes here and there with auto-tune and some effects in some tracks, mostly I think comes from Double tracking vocals, not crazy Cher/Kanye Auto - Tune
n0s22 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 depends on the songs i guess .. some are more digitalized than others .. are we even using the right terms lol
Katarina. Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I think 21stCB has more of BJ's pure vocals cause he sounds so similar when singing live. American Idiot is somewhat computerized, similar to Christian's Inferno, a little.Ones like Before the Lobotomy and !VLG! are absolutely pure(intro parts). The same as what I was going to say!
Hermione Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 ^I think there's more vocal effects/enhancement on 21st CB than there was on American Idiot. That's the impression I get when I listen to them anyway.Yeah there's definitely some effects going on, along with lots of his natural voice. I suppose it's like any other part of the recording process, you can use the studio to change parts of the sound whether it's the guitar, drums, vocals or anything else. It all goes towards making the songs sound how they want them to sound.I think they've used just the right amount of effects on the album, it sounds perfect.
