Fulano Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I was recently listneing to 21st cnetury breakdwon the song and in the transition formt he first to the second part in the guitar rift there is choppy thing almos tlike the thing is jump now i dunno if its just me or if it was a mistake or i was mena to be buts annoyingWhen the song was played on the radio [before May 15th, when was played on radios a preview from the album] i heard this and i thought "WHAT THE FUCK???"But i don't think that this is an accident.
Angela. Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 The first time I heard that, I thought, "Is my CD fucked up? It can't be!" But like Fulano said, it's probably not an accident. Personally, I like it. I think it sounds pretty cool.

Ila Reto Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 i've never noticed it (regardless, i only really listen to the demo version.)
check Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 It's supposed to be like that. Listen to it through headphones, it's actually really cool because it cycles between the left and right channels.
Robin105 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I actually like it. It's definetly supossed to be like that.
Bob4775 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 its just green day expirementing with the killswitch. its supposed to be there
Lauren Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I do this all the time with my guitar. I have 2 pickups and a pickup switch to control which pickup I use. I only use the treble (bridge) pickup and I keep the rhythm (neck) pickup volume on 0, so when I flick the switch it turns on and off. I do it at the end of some songs for a cool effect.
forget_me_nots Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Oh, yeah, I heard that too, and for half a second I thought my i-pod fucked up, but then I realized it was meant to be there. I like it.
deadair Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Oh, yeah, I heard that too, and for half a second I thought my i-pod fucked up, but then I realized it was meant to be there. I like it. Lol, I was walking outside listening to the album for the first time and I was with my ipod and the same thing happened to me! What is this demo version everyone is talking about? I know links can't be posted, can somebody PM me it?
Isabel Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I really like it too, it's a very suitable transition into the second part of the song.
toaster_poodle Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 If I'm thinking of the right part, he's just using the killswitch on his guitar
alexandrez Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 If I'm thinking of the right part, he's just using the killswitch on his guitarindeed.the first time i played it on drums, with the song blasting out of my headphones, it felt really weird on my timing. it almost influenced me to keep up with it for a second.but it is intentional. and its two guitars doing it. one on the left channel the other one on the right channel.they dont have that on the demo version.
Sharmellow Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 It's supposed to be like that, and it sounds pretty cool too.
Spider Tre Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 at first i thought my cd player was fucking up but no, it's supposed to be like that
MDizzy Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Are you talking about in the very beginning of the song when it transitions from the light guitar then slowly starts to build up, then it rocks out? I didn't really notice it til now but yeah, It's definitely part of the song (if that's what you're talking about). It's kind of high pitched compared to the other guitar(s)?

TheMinority16 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Its on purpose cause they did it live at GMA. It's kinda obvious since you can hear the drums still playing and the way it chops.
AtTheLibrary19 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 It's this switch on guitars where you can totally kill the sound and therefore sort of create that awesome waa waa choppy type thing they use during the transition. Lots of punk bands, like Rancid for example, use it now and then. I was really pleased that Billie tried experimenting with that!
LouLou Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Reminds me of the part on Church on Sunday. I know, its totally different, but its still what I think of. Anyway, I like it.
Greenday_Aussie Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Its a Les Paul trick, turn the volume down on the rhythm pickup, and flick between treble and rhythm, it cuts in and out..Kill switch effect!
