another 21CB review

And yet another 21CB review, this time from a Dutch newspaper.

It's not a positive review, and they give the album 2 out of 5 stars (or circles or whatever)

Green Day sounds like Green Day: we already know this

15 years after their breakthrough album Dookie, the horizon of the Californinan trio Green Day reaches way further than the punk rock songs from before. After singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong moulded, on the penultimate album American Idiot, his frustration about the American politics into a comprehensive concept album, is the new one, 21st Century Breakdown, again an ambitious piece of work. In a rockopera with 3 acts, the trio outlines hope and disappointments of a young couple who try to remain royal to simple ideals in a complex worl. That doesn't have any big musical consequenses, because for 70 minutes, Green Day sound especially as the sound rock group we know. A piano ballad her and an angry punksong there, but Nirvana-producer Butch Vid didn't drastically changed direction with them. And if the melody from Last Night On Earth then sounds exactly like their old hit Wake Me Up When September Ends, there isn't much left of those nice ambitions. 18 songs of more the same, that couldn't have been the intention.

I have to say that I disagree with that-this is an ambitious album.
