New review here.

Or well, actually it's 4 days old, but I haven't seen it posted up here.

It's Dutch, but me or someone else can make a translation if someone wants to.

It's not really a positive review, but posting it won't do any harm, I guess

They call the Foxies "disappointing" :(

And they seem to like the word "punk". x)

edit: way crappy translation a couple of posts down. Summary in the post above my crappy translation x')

So basically they're saying American Idiot was a good album, but Green Day kinda failed now, to release 21st Century Breakdown, an album that's a lot like AI, but kinda disappointing.

They say it has 'a few good songs', but it definitely has a few rather 'boring' ones, such as Know Your Enemy, Christian's Inferno and Last Of The Americna Girls.

All I can say is: I don't agree with this, lol

And they call everything that isn't quiet "punk".

Oh, and hey, my geo teacher has the same last name as the writer of this article.

Oh whatever, I'm bored, I'm gonna translate it. Prepare for some rather crappy English

After a less succesful period, the American punkband Green Day had an impressing comeback in 2004 with the album American Idiot. The band wins the Grammy for best rock album and 7 MTV awards with it

In 2005, the band has a tour and in the end of that yeah, the live album BIAB is released/made. After this, apart from some seperate song and cooperation with U2, it's getting rather silent around Green Day

In 2008, a kind of disappointing garagerockalbum under the band name Foxboro Hot Tubs came out, but at the end of the year, Green Day went into studio to record the real succesor from American Idiot. It recently was released and is named 21st Century Breakdown.

21st Century Breakdown is a concept album, in which the band wants to picture the era in which we live and the manipulation of the people by government, church and media. They do that with a story about Christian and Gloria, a young couple that's followed through the peaks and low points of the century

On this new album, Green Day is influenced by Queen, The Who, The Clash and Bruce Springsteen, which resulte in a rather bombastic sound with lots of changes in tempo and next to a lot of punk songs, also the necessary (?) pauses

Thus ¡Viva La Gloria! starts with a piano and strings to further change in a nice melodic punk song. The title track, also the climax/peak of the album, knows a couple of changes in tempo. First melodic punk, then louder, passionate (?) punk and in the end slower and melodic. The likewise rather strong 21 Guns has calm couplets, but louder choruses

Against these and other good songs, are unfortunately also a bunch of lesser songs. Thus is the first single Know Your Enemy frankly boring, and the same passes for (?) for example Christian's Inferno and Last Of The American Girls

The most important rotter (?) though, is the strong musical similiarness (?) with Amrican (yeah, "Amrican") Idiot. I admit/Admitted, the choice for a punk concept album full of *don't even know what it means in Dutch; prog-influences* was at the time rather risky, but it produced a strong and original album

However, now the band does almost exactly the same, just with songs that are a tad less (?). This results in an album that sure has a couple of good songs, but as a whole, kind of disappoints.

No one's gonna read this, I'm sure of that

I thought I summarized (sp?) it pretty well.. So you didn't have to translate the whole thing, lol :P

Yeah, I know. But I was bored

(and I see this sort of as doing homework (A). I gave up on thinking of articles for some stupid Dutch newspaper we have to make because I fail anyway at writing, so I started translating articles from foreign online newspapers )

Lol.

I've been doing the same thing lately. :ninja:

Thanks for the translation, the summary's great but I still like to read these things for myself :P

They call the Foxies "disappointing" :(
