SOMERTEN Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 According to the Daily Star, 21stCB has already sold 75,000 copies since it's release yesterday and is the fastest selling album of 2009. I take it this is just the UK they are talking about.Sorry I was going to post a link but I can't find this article on line, it is in the paper though If anyone is capable of scanning it, which I'm rubbish at. Not bad eh? glad the concert tickets were put up for sale before the release, that's all I'm sayin! I wonder how it's doin in the USA.
novacaine_kid Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Thats pretty impressive. I think eminem's new album will be very close to matching it if not beating it though.
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 well..i think it'll be the album with the most sold copies of the year
Mato Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Thats awesome Do you guys think it can beat American Idiot in sales?
bass boy Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 wow. impressive. but not veary suprising. its been 5 years, no duh people are going to be excited for the new album.
Hermione Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 A few weeks ago, my mum was saying the album would do crap. I explained that American Idiot had sold really well and gone to number one etc, and she's fully aware of how successful Green Day are so obviously I thought this was just another jokey dig at them to annoy me. But then she decided to accept a £5 bet from me that it would go to number one!I have given her numerous chances to call the bet off but she is going ahead with this madness. A fiver is coming my way
Jillie Boe. Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 It's going to be THE album of 2009 without a doubt .I think you're going a bit too far here to be honest. Personally, I believe the album is utter crap, and I believe that a lot of the people who have bought the album were probably 'disappointed'. Of course, I was intelligent enough to listen to it online instead of being the fool that went out and bought it first.
**nobodylikesyou** Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 ^utter crap really? You are definitely in the minority with your feelings.
Jillie Boe. Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 ^utter crap really? You are definitely in the minority with your feelings.Well, clearly on this forum I am in the minority, for obvious reasons. In the UK in general, I don't think I am.

Of course, I was intelligent enough to listen to it online instead of being the fool that went out and bought it first.I would say calling the album 'utter crap' would be taking it too far. Clearly you have no appreciation for the music. It's still number one on the Australian itunes chart .
Jillie Boe. Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I would say calling the album 'utter crap' would be taking it too far. Clearly you have no appreciation for the music.Whatever.
sroy Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Whatever.calling it 'utter crap' is defintely taking it too far .i respect that you don't like it ,but saying its going to do bad or that every ones not going to like it based on your not liking it ,is well elitist.that being said, saying that it will be the album of the year at this point is also kinda a lofty claim .
novacaine_kid Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 No need to flame her for not diggin the album. its all about freedom of speech and ideas on a public forum such as this. but of course, people here tend to forget that when the almighty lords of music are critisized. Its not hard to believe that people don't like this album. get over it
**nobodylikesyou** Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Well, clearly on this forum I am in the minority, for obvious reasons. In the UK in general, I don't think I am.Obviously I am not in the UK, but my comment wasn't based on the feelings of tons of Green Day fans in this forum (even tho the majority of them love the album) every decent magazine/newspaper that has reviewed it gave it high praise. That, combined with the overwhelming response it has seen here is why I said that.

First of all, calling it 'utter crap' is not taking it too far in my opinion. You're the second person to have said this without giving any reasons to back up that statement. I'm assuming the only reason you're saying that is because you like the album. Just because a lot of people have bought the album, doesn't mean that they 'like' the album or think that 'the album is good'. It simply means that a lot of people have bought the album in a short period of time, many of which haven't even heard it yet. That was basically all I wanted to say.
Hermione Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 No need to flame her for not diggin the album. its all about freedom of speech and ideas on a public forum such as this. but of course, people here tend to forget that when the almighty lords of music are critisized. Its not hard to believe that people don't like this album. get over itWell it tends to be people's reasons for not liking the album that annoys people here, not just the fact they don't like it. When a perfectly acceptable "I don't like it" is accompanied by unnecessary whining that it's not the "real" Green Day, or they've sold out, or digs at those who do like it, or whatever other rubbish, criticism and questions are justified. But that's not the case here so I agree there's no need to have a go. If someone doesn't like it it's their loss, it's not hurting anyone.

novacaine_kid Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 ^ Yeah its the latter of your explanations that i was referring to. i for one love the album but i don't think less of people who hate it. im sure i hate a lot of bands that loads of people here like. thats what makes music such a difficult thing to analyse
**nobodylikesyou** Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Positive reviews on big bands such as Green Day sell magazines well.I don't think that is why it got positive reviews.
