greenbear Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I know there's hundred's of reviews around but I particularly liked this one with its take on the lyrics.New York music, The Voice"What's the latest way that a man can die/Screaming, 'Hallelujah'/Singing out, 'The dawn's early light'/The silence of the rotten, forgotten/Screaming at you," they cry out on "The Static Age." I hope they sell a gazillion records, and everyone hears that scream: an anthem for nihilistic, downtrodden, alienated kids looking for heaven. It's practically fucking Milton. It looks like he's really enjoying it.
arrie44 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The lyrics are very vague for the most part. IMO Green Day musically still have a lot in the tank, but Billie is lyrically drained. Just look at the lyrics to Burnout and how cool they are.Man I really love The Static Age too!
greenbear Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 I think Billie's written the lyrics in such a way that they appear vague but its been done deliberately so that you can put your own interpretation on them' He said in an interview a while ago that he was playing with double meanings on this album and I think many of the songs here can have different meanings depending on how you read them. Its like he doesn't want to spell it out to you but he wants you to think more deeply.I haven't yet heard the full album -waiting for Friday- so can't comment on the individual tracks.
Hermione Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 That was great . It's quite refreshing to read a review where they actually get to appreciating the album, and that doesn't contain the word masturbation! Lyrics are the main thing for me and it's nice to see how others enjoy them too. Especially when they express it so much more eloquently than I could. And I'm glad too, I love the way his songwriting has developed.

Sharmellow Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 My generation is zero/I never made it as a working-class hero." That sentiment transforms Breakdown from a simple re-enunciation of '60s politics into something very contemporary and relevant.I agree with that statement.Anyway, thanks for posting it.
Rezurgam Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I really enjoyed reading it. Glad to see another enjoying the depth of the lyrics as much as I do.
