Bexie. Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 nme... dont know what they're talking about, and if we didnt want 'spokespeople for a generation that didnt be asked to be spoken for' why did american idiot sell so well??
ElseWhere Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Sputnikmusic also posted a not so positive review, http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=30509Thought it was better to post it here than make a whole new thread.
Guest 16PaperLanterns Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 title: 21st Century Breakdown Proves Green Day Have Become Everything They Used To Hate...sure. xD "And then when ‘Warning’ rolled around it all seemed to go... wrong. ...even the most ardent fan couldn’t find much to love on the album."o__O this whole thing is so messed up.

Radioactive1 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I can see where certain reviewers are coming from with their negative reviews though. I don't agree with them in the slightest, I think this album's going to be my fave out of all of them, but yeah I can totally see why some of them are writing what they are.
Laura33 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Yeah, but I met NME won't have a problem with sticking Green Day on the front cover like bitches over the next few months because they know how much they 'sell'
sroy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 hmm, i dont think thats thier offical review , looks more like one of the staffers blogging .i actually thought this (http://www.nme.com/images/218_magspread_album_L50509.jpg) was thier review wasn't it?
littlelune2003 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Not really interested in the reviewers opinion (as at the end of the day I'll make my own mind up thanks) but this made me laugh out loud:"Duets with Bono (fucking Bono! Going from singing about cocks in ’94 to singing with a cock a few short years later, what a career trajectory!)"Mind you not being Bono's biggest fan, it was sure to raise a smirk!
farley drexel hatcher Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 "three self-proclaimed spokespeople for a generation"That's actually hilarious when you count how many times Billie has said he doesn't want to be a spokesperson. To be honest though I can't stand NME - it has to be the most hypocritical magazine out there when it comes to this sort of thing. They'll put anything on the cover if it shifts a few copies, even if it isn't really what they're about. I knew a few weeks ago when they splashed Green Day all over the cover that come release date it would a different story altogether
novacaine_kid Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 NME make a fortune praising bands to the hills that do exactly what they claim green day are doing. They can cry sell out all they want but they themselves as the very definition of the word. They just plug bands who are the flavour of the month at the time. So green day are not the arctic monkeys or kings of friggin leon, they are and always have been green day. they have never denied wanting to be the best they can be and NME are just trying to be petty
Pinhead-Stew!!! Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I like the NME, has good music and stuff. However, when it get's to this kind of stuff they're just talking out of their arses. In 1976 they called punk rock shite, that is until it became the next big thing. Then they were only to happy to praise bands like sham 69 for their pioneering. So the NME can shove that review up their arse. Also the official review from mr.beaumont was 8/10 and is a good read. So not all the people at the NME are knobs.
Agija Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 It's just someone's opinion. All reviews can't say how good the album is. But to be honest, I don't really care about it.
Elis_x Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Actually, I don't care what NME, Kerrang and these magazines think.. I love the new album and that's pretty much everything I care about.
Comrade Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 NME have become a magazine lost in their own self-importance. All their journalists do is scathe and support whetever trend has already been set. Oh and utterly bum indie up the arse. (not that indie is bad, but when a magazine that is traditionally rock starts calling itself 'THE Indie Magazine' then you know the writers have lost it)I've had a problem with NME for a while. They are biased but claim not to be. NME = Bill O'Reilly
Pinhead-Stew!!! Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I agre with the consensus here: "21CB is an awesome album and screw anyone who says otherwise." For people who care about reviews etc then here's the BBC's slant on it.http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/b6w6It basically says that the music is great but the lyrics are average (which is bollocks).
Ally Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 i see why they are reviewing like that, but i don't agree...wonder what kerrang will say about it tomorrow!
chickin'pickin' Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Fuck NME. I'd have more respect for this review if the writers weren't wankstains. Pinhead-Stew!!! said: It basically says that the music is great but the lyrics are average (which is bollocks). It's in no way mind-blowing. But Billie Joe has never written amazing lyrics in my opinion. He does a good job with his limited writing ability though, which is grand. The music of Green Day has always been the big pull for me.

Like someone said, I don't entirely disagree with it, the writer makes some fairly valid points.
