GreenDayDean Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Hi guys, I've searched to see if any topic like this has been done before with no luck.I'm doing a little research, I'm from England, i'd just like to know how the American media is treating the band compared to their very sucessful album American Idiot back in 2004.Are there high hopes? do they think 21st century breakdown will be better, the same? etcAre they in many magazines, more radio airplays?Any opinions will be very valuablethanks for your timeDean
Katarina. Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I don't live in America, so.. Can't really say anything 'bout it.
GreenDayDean Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 Oh!, I thought generally this was a site for americans, well what are your views from where you live? Thanks
Ally Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 this place is used by people from all over the world! i'm in england so you already know whats its like over here...
GreenDayDean Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 Thanks for the heads up,Well could you please tell me what your opinion is of green day's media reaction here?
The Disappearing Boy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 It would seem to me that there has been virtually no hyping up over here (in England). Fair play i rarely listen to the radio, or watch music channels, but no-one is talking about them, i don't know how widely known it is that they have an album out.it will be interesting to see if this has an effect on sales.
Katarina. Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Haha, well now you know ;pI live in The Netherlands. From what I've seen in the past few days, there hasn't been any hyping or anything about the new album.I hardly ever see Know Your Enemy on MTV/TMF here, neither do I hear the song on the radio being played a lot. They haven't appeared in any Dutch magazine yet either.I think only the fans that are following every tiny bit of news around the band know what's going on right now xDSo, for now it's kinda safe I think. I still haven't heard anybody talking about them.. I wonder what will happen after May 15
Red Lights Flash Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I've heard it alot on radios and MTV, but it definitely isn't much of a success compared to the American Idiot single...I live in Belgium by the way.
LouLou Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Hey I'm in America and here there doesn't seem to be much going on. I never listen to the radio so I haven't heard KYE on it, I only know of one person who has. He came up to me about 3 days ago, saying he heard KYE on the radio and that he really liked it. I know the TV station Fuse is dedicating the 15th to Green Day and playing Green Day related programming all day. I haven't really noticed much hype though. Online I've seen adverts here and there like on myspace and itunes, but that's about it. When I talk to other people about Green Day or their album, no one really seems to know that they have a new album coming out. I know this doesn't say a lot, but I hope it helps at least a little bit.
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Interesting that although it's still 'A' listed on Radio 1's playlist, but they seem to be playing Know Your Enemy less. I think we can safely assume it's flopped. Most of the media reaction seems pretty contained for such a supposedly 'big' release. I think Warner's were hoping hype enough would get them on tv/in magazines but it doesn't seem to be working. No-one I know even knows they've got an album out and I've only seen one advert on the T.V.
Renjini Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 i haven't heard it on the radio yet, and in my internet class, z100 is on for 30 minutes, never heard a single Green Day song on it in my life
Walking Alone Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 The less Green Day is on garbage stations like Z100 the better. The album, in my opinion will sell less than American Idiot. But it is just as good, if not better. All that matters is that you like it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Hell one of the more influential bands of all time The Velvet Underground didn't sell at all.
Nimrod99 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 who knows, maybe things will kick up once the album has officially come out or when the next single is released. I've heard KYE a few times on a couple of radio stations in my area and have seen the music video on MTV once since it got released (and that wasn't the day it debuted either).
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Haha, well now you know ;pI live in The Netherlands. I haven't been amused that much by a magazine in a long time And it's stupid that we can't quit our subscribtion until July or something...But for the rest, yeah, I haven't seen much promotion here either.I believe that at one radio station they gave away tickets for the Rotterdam show, but I'm not entirely sure about that.I've heard it on the radio too, same station, but for the rest I haven't seen any promotion about it yet...
gdpunk2 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 They have appeared in a few British newspapers, like The Sun on Sunday with a small reveiw about a show they played in Germany and a little bit about 21st Century Breakdown. They also appeared in todays Metro (Local Birmingham paper), with a long read with stuff we already knew about the album. They pretty much took up the whole page with it though But to be honest, I havent heard much about the new album. Ive heard KYE on radion a few times and the DJ talking about the release date. I couldent compare to American Idiot because I only got into Green Day then. I was kind of expecting a lot of people to be talking about 21st Century Breakdown all the weeks leading up to its release, but I havent heard anything. Oh well, they will soon notice it when its released
Teenage Kicks! Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 It's not as crazy as when American Idiot came out.I remember it...it was Green Day mania! This go around it's like meh. But I'm in Texas if that makes a difference. Radio wise.
Ila Reto Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 i dont see them in as much teenie magizines (Bop, Tiger Beat, etc) as i did in 2005. all i can say is, i would totally hang my head in shame if i see green day on makeup bags and school notebooks again. they took green day to such a level of merchendise that it can make even the biggest fan sick.so i hope they dont advertise with as much merch this time around
Starbug Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 All right, this is ridiculous lol99% of the people in here say they don't watch music channels (music channels, haha, yeah right, like there's any music anymore) or listen to the radio, so no wonder there's very little 'hype'. I would classify it as 'buzz' because my brother has heard the song, and he doesn't give a shit. My nephew has heard it on the radio, and he and all his friends were all excited to get it off of iTunes, which I know as heavily advertising the album/single, come Friday. So yes, there is a quiet 'buzz' but they haven't been doing much. Once the album is out, they're going to start promoting it. And their main avenue of promotion has, thus far, been the internet and magazine interviews. Believe me, once the album is released, it's going to hit the fan. Letterman, GMA, SNL, appearances here and there, cd signings, shows, a whole day of GD programming. You don't see this now because there's really no big need for it just yet. I remember hearing a John Mayer song on an episode of House, and that very night I went to Wal Mart and bought the cd because I loved the song. You can't buy Green Day's cd yet. So once they infiltrate your mind, and the airwaves and whatnot, people will want the album. If they can't get the album, they'll forget about it... trust me, it hasn't even started yet And Know Your Enemy was a poor choice for first single, IMO... but apparently, a lot of kids are really digging it. so who knows?
Nimrod99 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 i dont see them in as much teenie magizines (Bop, Tiger Beat, etc) as i did in 2005. all i can say is, i would totally hang my head in shame if i see green day on makeup bags and school notebooks again. they took green day to such a level of merchendise that it can make even the biggest fan sick.so i hope they dont advertise with as much merch this time aroundI agree with you there. It was insanely rediculous.
Hermione Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Except for the usual music magazines all I've heard/seen is a few plays of Know Your Enemy on Radio One and that article in the music section of The Sun. I haven't heard them even mentioned on terrestrial TV at all and the KYE video has not been played on it. Shame they got rid of all the music shows like Top Of The Pops and CD:UK really, music has been banished from mainstream television . I can't speak for Sky and digital TV though as I don't have it, maybe they've been mentioned more there.all i can say is, i would totally hang my head in shame if i see green day on makeup bags and school notebooks again. they took green day to such a level of merchendise that it can make even the biggest fan sick.I love my Green Day makeup bag
Ila Reto Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I love my Green Day makeup bag lol you know im just jealous because i never was able to get one oh yea, and the two rock/hits channels that we have on our radio here have never played KYE that im aware of.Friday is FUSE's "green day day" right?
Tiffx Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 It seems to be hyped up in Australia, with TV specials showing on the day of release and radio stations playing the full album all day/exclusive interviews.
