Beatlesfan94 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 There are some very good covers and some very bad ones. Since GD is covering two classic songs for the deluxe iTunes version of 21CB ("Like a Rolling Stone" and "That's All Right (Mama)"), it might be a good time for a thread like this. So what are some of the worst and best covers in your opinion?Best"Hey Jude" - Guess Who - heard this on Pandora today, and it sounds just like The Beatles version (it even sounds like Paul!) just with more reverb/echo whatever."Another Day" - Cherry Twisters - another McCartney composition. It's a bit faster than the original, but it works. I really enjoy the vocals too."That's All Right (Mama)" - The Beatles - they covered a lot of songs in their early days, and this Elvis cover is very good. Can't wait to hear GD's version.Worst"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" - Guns 'n' Roses - can Axl Rose sing? Goddamn. It's "door", not "doorwor hey hey hey hey." He sounds so whiny."Live and Let Die" - Guns 'n' Roses - stop. Get some singing lessons. It's actually a little better than "Heaven", but still. At least Slash's guitar playing adds to the song (but I'm still biased to the original with the energetic piano playing.)EDIT: Did I just spell "recorded" wrong? Wow.
perfectpitchrob Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I'll pick one from each - BEST - "Twist and shout" - the beatles. Their cover version made the song practically a Beatles original! What's even more increadible is they recorded this song last in a 12 hour session that yielded nearly all the songs from their album "please please me", and on top of that, John had a cold! A landmark recording indeed...unlike...... WORST - " I can't get no satisfaction" - Brittney Spears - My sister played this song so much when it was released and it was god awful. From the lyrical changes, to the synth dance beats, I felt like I was having an ear-seizure and all I could think about was "poor brian jones is rollin' over in his grave!" At least the remaining members of the Rolling Stones hate this version too!

Hermione Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Lol not a Guns 'n' Roses fan I see , I have to agree.Avril Lavigne - Basket Case goes without saying as worst of course. How about that Flo Rida song that takes the chorus from You Spin Me Right Round, does that count? Just awful!Best, hmm I love Green Day's Working Class Hero. Or Muse's House Of The Rising Sun and Feeling Good. In fact make that any cover by Muse.
alexandrez Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Best, hmm I love Green Day's Working Class Hero. Or Muse's House Of The Rising Sun and Feeling Good. In fact make that any cover by Muse.yes. anything that muse touch turns to gold. no matter how shit the song actually is.=p
Juan Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 yes. anything that muse touch turns to gold. no matter how shit the song actually is.=pthey could cover slipknot and make it good
Beatlesfan94 Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 I listened to (part of) Avril Lavigne's cover of "Basket Case". It sucks for one reason, and one reason only - she sounds so bored when she sings. She stands completely still in front of the microphone and sings badly. There is no energy or enthusiasm in her voice.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BIr_IG67S4
Greenforaday101 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Not only is desolation row by my chemical romance the worst cover of all time it is also the worst song ever recorded in human history. I hope they have their own special place in hell for that abomination.
Starbug Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Best-Darling Nikki/Foo FightersKiss Me Deadly/Reel Big FishStrawberry Fields Forever/Ben HarperWorst-KKK Took My Baby Away/Marilyn Manson (he massacred that song as only Marilyn Manson could)My mind has gone blank, I'll name more as they come to me.

chickin'pickin' Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Amended the title. The best cover of I fought the Law is by The Clash, amazingly enough. As for the worst cover, I really can't stand Amy Winehouse's version of Valerie. It grates, honestly...
Alan86 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 This must be the worst cover everGirls Aloud Vs. Sugababes - Walk This Way (Aerosmith Vs Run DMC)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTD0A1J4Qcs
Morgaine Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I can't think of the best now, but the worst one would certainly be We Are the Champions cover by Crazy Frog. That was... a profanation.
Green Jay Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Erm... worst is when Avril Lavigne covered Basket Case and Chop Suey. Seriously, go check it out guys.
stxrlesseyes Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Worst is anything that Avril Lavigne has ever covered.
