The Disappearing Boy Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 i think i saw this a while back, but thanks anyway
Kimpsu Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 This review said it, it's a great single for radios, but still almost too simple.
chickin'pickin' Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Much better review, even though it's pretty generous.Green Day - "Know your enemy"The Bottom LineNo surprise here. Green Day return with rousing anthemic rock on "Know Your Enemy" from the upcoming 21st Century Breakdown. According to lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong the song is a clarion call to liberate yourself from televised crap. The lyrics aren't quite so explicit, but there is plenty of fist-pumping energy. It's great to have them back, but ultimately "Know Your Enemy" is standard issue Green Day.Listen to a preview clip of "Know Your Enemy"Pros * Anthemic punch of guitar and drums * Billie Joe Armstrong is one of the best vocalists in rock * Catchy and melodicCons * Dull, repetitive lyrics * No new ground brokenhttp://top40.about.com/od/singles/gr/greendayknow.htm

ImnotaDrIjustPlayOneOnTV Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I'm sure there will be way better songs on the album. I also thought it kind of sounded standard issue and not a huge variance on lyrics. Basically somethin to say "hey Green Day is back, check us out." I felt this way when they released the single for American Idiot, so many stronger songs on the album. After hearing KYE that was my thought again. I think that is why I like Lights Out better.
Paper_Lantern Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Yeah, much like American Idiot, this song is good to catch people's attention, but for most Green Day fans, it will be a least favorite song.
Chad is Rad Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 "Bigger than the genre that spawned them." I like that.
Hermione Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 That's a really good review.Much better review, even though it's pretty generous.Green Day - "Know your enemy"The Bottom LineNo surprise here. I think the lyrics are great. Effective and to the point - just right for a protest, and the repetition hits the message home even further.Silence is the enemyAgainst your urgencySo rally up the demons of your soulWhat a brilliant line
rage-love-life Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Both reviews were good. Yeah, KYE is simple but it's kick-ass. Better songs await us in a month.
amy_runs Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Both reviews were good. Yeah, KYE is simple but it's kick-ass. Better songs await us in a month.Amen sista!
.:Whatsername:. Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I like how they say "On first listen one may criticise the song for being too repetitive or simple, but further listening tells of the track's true anthemic qualities."When I first heard it I was kind of dissapointed. But when I learned the lyrics and listened more it really grew on me. I liked the review. The guy from our newspaper here gave the whole album a 3/5 because it's similar to American Idiot, apparently.
Comrade Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 hehe I was going to wait for a bit of positive feedback before I said that I'm actually the author of the review.
RebelofSuburbia Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 On first listen one may criticise the song for being too repetitive or simple, but further listening tells of the track's true anthemic qualities.True. The more I listen to it, the more I grow to like it. Probably will never be a favourite, but it's not a bad song.
iLozza! Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 i agree with every word of that review. And I agree with every word of that post
CarmenPunkGirl Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Yeah, much like American Idiot, this song is good to catch people's attention, but for most Green Day fans, it will be a least favorite song.corect!
Chad is Rad Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 It is indeed too repetitive.I kind of like the repetitive quality of the song though, for some reason, it makes it a little bit better. Then the solo comes in and it adds perfect variety to the song.

Guest Hayley Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 i agree with every word of that review. So do I.
MrGreenDayUK Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Any one else think they shouldn't have named it after a fucking brilliant RATM song? Kind of gives it a lot to live up to. The riff in the Rage song is absolutely killer.
Hermione Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 ^They probably came up with the name without the RATM song even entering their minds. And if they realised afterwards it would be pretty lame to get rid of the name they'd carefully chosen to fit the song just because of a coincidence. They didn't change the name of Holiday after the realised it was also a Madonna song
