W Axl Rose Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I forget who but someone mentioned how Green Day has been pretty lazy with their setlists over the last ten years. Now I am fully aware they arre out to promote a new album and will play lots of songs from it. I guess I don't see why they can't throw the old fans a bone and bust out some older stuff from Kerplunk/1039. Yeah I know they toured those albums back in the day. I was lucky enough to see them in the mid 90's. A lot of people on here (looking at the ages) weren't. Some weren't even born. I think its cool they busted out 80,Christie Road etc. at these shows but when the real tour starts I think it is gonna back to the same old same old. Yeah, I know they aren't making the set list for me but I would imagine out of the 10,000 people at a show, most have the albums. It isn't like they are hard to find or some underground non-commercial releases.
W Axl Rose Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 NoI think you missed the last ten years of touring then due to being 5 when it started.
Haydée Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 actually, I don't care.I love every GD song, and I will probably like the new ones aswell..so I don't mind which one they play, as long as they do play.
Jynx it up Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I'd hope that they do, but we just gotta wait and see.
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 They'll play old songs, but only the popular ones. Every once in a while they'll throw out something like Christie Road, Going to Pasalacqua, Who Wrote Holden Caufield, and One of my Lies. But not too much other than that. (except, of course, things like Basket Case that are popular)
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Well, I hope they won't drop them.
amy_runs Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I think you missed the last ten years of touring then due to being 5 when it started.Dude I was there in spirit ~
Farah Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 well atleast you've seen them live!any green day song is great (atleast I love all of their songs) so i wouldn't really mind what they play... but i know it's always cool if they played an old song you really love.. but it's up to them.. they decide..
W Axl Rose Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 I saw two club shows and two Arena shows on the AI tour. The set is so predictable. I am all for a big rock show. Fuck we are gonna be paying at least 60 bucks a ticket (IMO) and the argument given last tour was Green Day have pyro cues so they have to keep the set as is. To me that is a bunch of bullshit. The songs are 2-3 mins. At the drop of a dime if they feel like it, they should bust out something old from Kerplunk.1039,Insomniac etc. They have to be tired of the same old set by now.
Astrid. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 If they play Christie Road I'm pretty happy. I hope they do play some of the old ones but don't think they will play them on this upcoming tour.
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 If they play Christie Road I'm pretty happy. I hope they do play some of the old ones but don't think they will play them on this upcoming tour.One. For. The. Razorbacks. When did they EVER play that live? (atleast, after dookie)
iLozza! Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I like their setlists.I'm not too fussed, I have their older songs on CD anyway.
Astrid. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 One. For. The. Razorbacks. When did they EVER play that live? (atleast, after dookie)That. One. Too. And.. Misery. Did they EVER played that song live?
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I like their setlists.I'm not too fussed, I have their older songs on CD anyway.Good point. I just think it's the excitement when they play an older song that they rarely play that really gets the fans going.
W Axl Rose Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Good point. I just think it's the excitement when they play an older song that they rarely play that really gets the fans going. I think it is pretty awesome that you weren't even born when I first saw Green Day live ( well that and you like The Beatles) but you seem pretty hardcore into them. Though at 29, this place makes me feel fucking old

Though at 29, this place makes me feel fucking old :down:Hey, my sister was a year younger than I when Dookie came out. Not like she liked it, but she happened to have the CD so I stole it from her...Green Day is my favorite band, next to that, The Beatles. I don't even really like other bands. Well, I do, but I don't get much into them. I'll like a few songs but I won't buy any merchandise, and I won't care if I go to shows or not.
farley drexel hatcher Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I really can't stand when someone thinks they are better than the new fans just because they saw them in the '90s. You've brought it up at least three times in this thread now. And no, I don't think they'll drop the old songs, they seem to be having fun playing them.
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 That. One. Too. And.. Misery. Did they EVER played that song live? No!You know what's weird? My guitar teacher (who is 48) is always looking for music he doesn't have, so I gave him Warning. He heard "Misery", and he thought it was the greatest thing ever. So, basically, he knows "Misery", but he barely knows their popular songs! It's so weird, he knows "Poprocks & Coke", too. (Infact, that was the first song with bar chords he taught me how to play. I was like WHOAH, how do you even know this song?!")He liked "Misery" so much that his band did a cover of it!I really can't stand when someone thinks they are better than the new fans just because they saw them in the '90s. You've brought it up at least three times in this thread now. And no, I don't think they'll drop the old songs, they seem to be having fun playing them.True, I can see what you're saying. It's not MY fault I wasn't even born until Dookie came out!but I got into Green Day when I was 10, which seems pretty young to me.And it wasn't because of AI, I didn't even know wtf AI was. It was because my friend heard them and showed them to me. I didn't even like music before Green Day.

You've brought it up at least three times in this thread now. And no, I don't think they'll drop the old songs, they seem to be having fun playing them. What the fuck are you talking about? I 'll bring it up ten times if I want to. It is relevant because IMO, the setlists were better back then. Who the fuck said anything about being better? A fan is a fan if you have seen them once, ten times or not at all. There are just different levels that people take their fandom to. I am lucky I got to see them so often. I never said that makes me any better of a fan. I'll stop posting my pics with Green Day so you don't think I am trying to prove I am a "better" fan.Past setlists would indicate the band plays these older songs for the warmup shows then drops them in an arena setting.
iLozza! Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Good point. I just think it's the excitement when they play an older song that they rarely play that really gets the fans going. Yeah, they played Knowledge sometimes, but it'd be good if they threw in another old song.I still like their setlists though.
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Past setlists would indicate the band plays these older songs for the warmup shows then drops them in an arena setting. They're bigger now. a LOT of people at their concerts on the last tour ONLY knew American Idiot... heck, one time I was talking about how Dookie was a good album in a chat room, and someone was like, "THEY PUT OUT A NEW ALBUM?!?!"Plus, they had all those years to play their old songs. They couldn't play 21CB any time before now, so why not play most of their new songs? Eventually these songs will get old and won't be played as much.Yeah, they played Knowledge sometimes, but it'd be good if they threw in another old song.I still like their setlists though.I want them to play Knowledge so I can go on stage.
Fuzz Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It is relevant because IMO, the setlists were better back then.Yeah, in your opinion. I wouldn't mind if they dropped songs like Basketcase and When i Come Around, Welcome to Paradise. I love Minority, but still, it's been played a million times. I'd be totally content if they only played the new songs.
netty Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Past setlists would indicate the band plays these older songs for the warmup shows then drops them in an arena setting.so why are you asking if they will drop the old songs? you already know that the majority of the songs they play will be the new ones not the old ones. if they get the urge to play some of the older songs at some of the gigs... its because they want to play them and have fun playing them. at the end of the day, whatever these guys do..... its all about having fun and keeping it fresh for themselves! if they arent having fun.... the party would be over. simple as that.
