MrGreenDayUK Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Cheers for posting.I agree with him, Green Day might not be the punkest thing going but through them, indirectly, I've got into The Clash, Sex Pistols, NOFX, Ramones, Billy Talent, Rancid, Operation Ivy, Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag, Alkaline Trio, MxPx, even System of a Down etc. I mean I'm not into hardcore but Green Day got me into a lot more credible music; before that I was listening to Coldplay and Craig David. Also, I used to hate Blink-182 but I have more respect for what they did now. There's no denying that they were an excellent band back in the day, before they 'grew up'.

I hate people like Johnny Rotten who, like Justin said, act like cops and tell everybody what punk is and what you should do. While the crappy interviewer tries to lump Green Day in with shite like Blink 182, he obviously knows the score and can see that Green Day stand apart. He gives them the credit they deserve for being brave enough to take a bold political stance, and for doing what the fuck they want instead of conforming to a punk standard. He is clearly not a snobby punk elitist. Kudos to him!

Always wanted to know what they thought about Green Day and i have even more respect for them now for aknowledging what Green Day did with American Idiot and the punk scene in general. I wouldnt've got into Anti-Flag without Green Day and i think its the same with other people so i think he is spot on with what he said, great stuff.

There's only so many times your dad can buy Never Mind The Bollocks.And before anyone says it, Rotten does care about money. Otherwise he wouldn't have done reality TV and a crappy Sex Pistols reunion.

They could have quite easily dumbed down, signed a huge record deal and got fucking minted. I'm just saying, he went back on what he stood for which lost him a lot of respect.
