What are your feelings towards Green Day now?

:/ They were on the verge of splitting because of a breakdown in communication. They forgot how to talk to each other. Billie Joe thought that Tré and Mike were hyper critical and the in turn thought Beej was the band nazi.

But to get back on topic. I think that an update once in a while couldn't do any harm. Even if it is just something stupid. Just to let us know they are in the studio and not at some fashion event, parading in Europe or getting mashed at a bar in the OC

Maybe Tre slept with Billie's wife and they need time to all be friends again.

A totally plausible explaination

Yeah, but come on. You don't think the commercial slump could have contributed to their potential break up? Even just a little bit?? To me, it would seem so.

I doubt that the majority of people's obsssion with Green Day is as intense as it was when they first discovered them.

Or at least, for me, Green Day isn't what it once used to be, regardless of the fact that they are still a fucking amazing band.

Their new CD will come out and if good, the people who are bored with them will once again fall in love with them and the people who don't like them, will follow as they have loved them all along.

And then if it's bad, the people who do like them might lose respect, whereas the people who don't like them, will not like them more.

I don't know, really. And you can't even really predict anything because it is after all, Green Day.

I suppose we hope & wait for some really fucking ace CD, now and that's all.

I have to disagree with you there. I know they'll always be happy with the music they play, but during their previous commercial slump, they were on the verge of breaking up after Warning. It seemed to have them fighting a lot, and when American Idiot came out, and it was successful, they were all the sudden happy again. Although it doesn't mean everything, being accepted commercially is an important aspect to a band. Now that they have it again, (or at least did), they probably want to find ways to keep it.

They got their shit together and worked out their differences while recording american idiot, not after. So they werent all happy again because it was successful.

I agree with Laura33, I think they wont put it out until they are 100% happy with the direction the album is going.

I think their lack of updates could be because they dont want to hear any shit from anyone. Like Billie said when they got on the message boards before american idiot and everyone was saying how stupid it was. I think maybe they just dont want to hear any crap like that.

I don't see how the music is more mature. Songs like Jesus of Suburbia do a pretty great job relating to teens, but I know it's not Billie's own mentality. Actually, the whole St. Jimmy concept gave me the opposite impression. Not moving on at all, but actually American Idiot seemed like intense nostalgia for Green Day.

Nostalgia?? I didnt think that album seemed like they were longing for those days back. It seemed to me some parts it seemed as if they were writing a story reflecting on what it was like but not wanting to be back there. AI and BOBD and WMUSE seemed to deal with more adult intense issues and feelings.

I think their sound was a lot different than their earlier albums.

Really? If you're serious, well then I never met someone so immature.

And if you're not, well then...what do I do...laugh? Idk...lame.

To me it's a mixture of both. Yeah they worked out their differences in the studio, so they could record peacefully, but to me, in my personal opinion, the happiness came when they were out of the commercial slump they were in with the success of AI.

^ That made my night

I fail to see the humor in having an opinion and thoughts about certain subjects. I could be wrong. I'm just stating my theory,. I didn't ridicule anybody for having their own point of view. I expect the same courtesy.

I still love green day, but i'm a little disappointed because I thought that they would keep their fans a little more up to date with whats going on with the album.

Wow, I'm not really following the conversation (Or should that have a plural, seems a few are going on at the same time :P) so I'm going to look like the noob I am.

Anyway on with my opinion...

My answer isn't going to be as meaningful, long and heartfelt as everyone elses. It's pretty basic. It's sort of the whole 'I was obsessed, then found a new band to obsess over and the cycle starts again. Maybe when they release a new album the obsession will come back' thing people always say.

So in short...It's hard to be excited and obsessed with Green Day, when at the moment there is nothing to be excited or obsessed about

Ha, OK then. I guess it was just a misunderstanding. I apologize.

S'okay, no harm done.

I have been thinking. I went to a school reunion the other night and a few people asked me 'Are you still obsessed with Green Day?' And I didn't even have to think about it, I said 'yes' straight away. I left school years ago. I think a person will find a band that they connect with and that band will stay with them for the rest of their life. I grew up listening to Green Day. To me it seems silly for me not to be obsessed with them.

I mean sure sometimes I find myself listening to other bands a lot more *coughthebeatlescough* But I know I could put on a Green Day album or live bootleg and fall straight back in love with them

I agree. The guys do bust their asses, and they've stuck to their morals about their ticket prices too. They always said that they'd keep their prices affordable and never let them get jacked up. They've stuck to that. For being as big as they are, they could charge ridiculous amounts of money for tickets and people would pay it. But they don't. There are artists out there that charge crazy amounts of money for it. Bands pay for their own tours, and those cost alot. They could profit a hell of alot more if they jacked their prices up, and yet they haven't.

Not to mention how generous and good to their fans they are. They don't update? Who the hell cares? When fans come up to them, they're nothing but polite. I mean, imagine how often they have people pestering them on the streets. When they're out with their families. Ever heard people talk about them being rude? I mean, Billie Joe was being pestered when he took his kids to see Hannah Montana. According to the person that posted it, he was nothing but nice. He could have been an asshole.

You want Green Day to give back? They do. Just not in the way you want. Being nice to the constant fans going up to them is a way they give back and show that they care. Not jacking up their ticket prices so they're affordable to fans who want to see them is giving back and showing that they care. When they release an album and their fans love it and feel the guys have inspired them or helped them in some way, they've given back. They know damn well that their fans are what helps them continue making a living off of their music, and they show respect to their fans because of that.

So maybe they aren't telling us exactly what they're doing very often. What about all the other things they have done for the fans? In what way is that becoming disconnected? Big deal. We don't know what's going on in the studio. We'll know what was going on when their next album drops, now won't we?

This girl knows what shes talking about :D

I dont really think theres any point in getting mad at a bunch of lads we dont know  Green Day are a musical band...they don't have to have ANY updates at all

...unless they had audio updates were they sung what was going on :woot:

Er but anyways I love getting updates from them and I do wish we had more but I don't get pissed off about it...I mean if youre that desperate to hear about Green Day you must still love them?

Well hopefully we will get to see their new website soon and all that stuff...

I really don't see the point of getting mad at them just because they haven't left much in the way of updates. I mean, what do you expect them to do? "Oh no... This guy hates us because we haven't said we're working on a new album in a little while... Let's say it again before we lose all our fans!"

Well said.

For me, the fact that a ticket for Milton Keynes and five hours + of music cost £28 says it all. Bon Jovi is charging £50 this summer. These guys DO respect their fans and stick to their principles. I go crazy when they are called sellouts because they have made money doing what they are so bloody good at - making kick-arse music. Nobody goes into their industry hoping to come out the other end just as broke as when they went in!

But than I am another one of those people with principles - I paid for the 'free' Radiohead album because of the respect I have for them as artists.

Having said that, I am going to kick GD into orbit soem time soon if they leave me in suspense like this for much longer.....

I think those are the cheapest tickets for Bon Jovi too.

I used to adore Bon Jovi when i was younger, esp in the mid 80's but i refuse to pay that amount of money now, there is no need for a band as big as them to charge those prices, its not like they need the fuckin money.

Ripping fans off is something im proud GD have never done.

i'm still an obsessive fan. i listen to their music every day, its just really annoying how the new album is taking FOREVER. i just hope its good and its not too mainstream. and i hope all those posers don't start liking them when the new album comes out.

i bet green day is in the studio right now as we speak. i mean their manager said we would get loads of news this month. maybe this info will be released this week.

yeah i remember their tour for 05, i think they grossed like 33 million and were the biggest band on the planet.

U2 on the other hand played less and grossed like 150 million that same year.

I paid 33 dollars for tickets in st louis, and 45 in chicago for green day. the cheapest ticket for U2 was $90 in the nosebleeds. Luckily I bought mine off a scalper the night of and only paid about 75.

i think the mystery of when their album comes out made them obsessive with american idiot.

so once we'll hear about the album, we'll get pumped, and actually get the album asap rather then wait and then find a leaked version that is sitting somewhere on the internet.

come to think of it, i think its a great method of making people pay for their cds too.

who cares what kinda damn fashion style they have.. i honestly couldnt give a shit whether they dress like they do or like country bumpkins ffs.

who cares if Billie wears damn eyeliner either..

I don't really care how they look. I mean, I listen to music to listen to it, not to look at it. :o

Since when has wanting to help the world made you a lazy bastard or a U2 wannabe? I admire GD for being so generous with their time when they could be arrogant and selfish and not care about the world around them. It motivates fans to get off their asses and do something with their lives and for others. As for the the current music scene being great, I just hear of Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson going out. Pretty awesome indeed.
