Amanda Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 If you were to introduce a friend to Green Day's music, where would you begin ?I'm just wondering, because I recently played some to a friend of mine who had never actually heard them before and the result was a pleasant surprise. He usually listens to what I guess can be described as easy listening type of music, like Barry White, Bob Marley and Simon and Garfunkel, and had not so much sneered at my love of Green Day but kinda gave me the vibe he didn't understand it. I guess this was just a preconception, due to never actually having listened to any of their stuff. So when he was in my car the other day and going through some cd's I told him to put on International Superhits, and when Longview and Welcome To Paradise came on he turned up the volume and really got into it. So now I'm gonna lend him a couple albums and he seems pretty impressed with what he's heard. So have you guys got any similar stories or like I said before, where would you begin in educating your friends to the finer things in life (in the form of Green Day) ?
xxx Sarah xxx Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I played Kerplunk to my friend who hated them, now she likes them
nessa1416 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I've done that a lot.Actually, it was mostly to family.. and I started off with their "nice" songs like Good Riddance, When I Come Around and Wake Me Up When September Ends. I think that just flies better with people who aren't really used to rock music. They either like it, or they don't, and if they do they continue the search on their own.
city.girl Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I tried, but kids would just make fun of me. Although, when AI came out, I did get my best friend listening to Boulevard of Broken Dreams and she fell in love. She's not so crazy about them now, but i'm sure she wouldn't mind going to a concert with me, sorta thing. If anything, I'd get them to listen to Prosthetic Head as a sampler if I met someone who had never listened to them.
angie Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 i played American idiot for my borther once , and he hated Green Day before ,and he liked him
TotalBasketCase13 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 ALL my friends already like/love Green Day (without my help), haha.but I guess if I was going to be the one to introduce them, I'd probably make a mixtape with a blend of all their albums so they could get a really rounded feeling (songs I would put on it would be Longview, Scattered, Christie Road, etc).
Dai. Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 About a year ago, everytime I'd put Green Day music on, all my friends would shout at me at the same time "PUT THAT SHIT DOOOOOOWN!". Or when I would be listening to them on my mp3 player and would wanna get them to listen to a song, they'd listen for 10 seconds and then go away saying they don't like it.thumbss dooown yo
InternationalSuperhits! Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 About two years ago, I burned my friend a CD of either Dookie or International Superhits! (can't remember which one) so she could get a taste of what Green Day is like. She ended up liking them a lot. Unfortuately, that's really the only other friend of mine that listens to Green Day.
penutt Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 my friends would kick my ass if i introduced them to green day
rootbeersoup Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 One time, I took the Dookie album and shoved it down my friend's throat and said, "YOU'RE GONNA LIKE GREEN DAY DAMMIT." He was like, "Dude, you just shoved dookie down my throat." He then took a big Beatles record and shoved it down my throat. I was like, "Dude, you just shoved a yellow submarine down my throat. And I already like The Beatles."

spark in the night Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 well it depends on each of my friend's music tastemy friend jackie likes alternative and hard rock, she actually really likes Brain Stewso i would introduce her to Insomniac firstfor some of my other friends that like a little bit of every type of music, I would maybe give them Nimrod because it has both slow, melodic songs and fast hard songsI have a few friends that like pop and country so I'd give them WarningI've tried putting GD in their face lolbut...they're not into it.they know that GD's my thing [offtopic but cute]couple days ago my friend Jackie was taking me home from school and we were talking about the future and after college. and she was like "Kelsey, you're gonna have like 5 kids. You're gonna be such a mom. After college you'll meet a Billie Bob..or...Billie Joe guy lookalike and you'll have a big family and drive a minivan"it made me tear up a little bit
woven_basketcase Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 i just give them a mix CD of their best songs, or give them all the CD's.
Holes Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Well my friend Richard is really into metal stuff, like Tool and A Perfect Circle. And we try to get eachother into eachothers music . And you know what....I actually don't mind his music. He's kinda liking more the old gd than the new...But I'm getting there
*Megan* Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 My bf was already a fan of AI. Not a huge fan but liked the singles you know.So I let him listen to my copy of ISH and he liked them. But, his fav album is Warning. God he was singing Misery for fucking weeks.
spark in the night Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I wish my friend would sing GD songs like thatit would be awesomewe'd sing them all day in school and bug everyone its hard to do that by myself I would start out with the singles and if interest is brewing I would then go to one of their more favorite singles and show them the albumsI reserve the old school 1039 and Kerplunk for when they really really like them
Rockermanny Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I played the entire American Idiot CD day after day till my friend liked their music.
amber-kay Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 One of my friends was way into rap, and I played Longview & She, and she bought Dookie. She now listens to most everything I do..One of my other friends was pop, rap, etc. and she heard Hitchin' A Ride & BOBD, and bought BIAB. She still listens to rap and everything, though. :/ Plus one of her older brother's friends saw that she had American Idiot & gave her Insomniac, which she didn't like at all.
Robin105 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I would have them listen to International superhits first cause those are all of there hits. I'm actually trying to get my dad to listen cause he likes there newer hits u know from AI so I said why don't u listen to there older hits. He was like one of these days.

I played "Waiting". I thought she would like it. She was meh on it. Her husband was clawing the car windows trying to get away. He hates Green Day.She doesn't like them. She doesn't hate them, but won't listen to them.
One Lite 1 Mind Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Nimrod. I honestly can't say why, but if I had a friend who never listened to Green Day, I would start off with that one. Insomniac might to be heavy for someone's liking, and some of their older stuff might be too punk for some. Nimrod basically has everything in there that someone will like.
RubbishGator101 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 When introducing someone i always play basketcase it just seems to catch on
likeahandgrenade Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 my friend's normally into rap/hip hop,( her favorite artist is nelly furtado...) and she had only ever heard WMUWSE, so i made a few cds- i made all of american idiot, and gave that to her first, because she likes popular music, so i figured that'd be a good place to start. then i made two more just out of say my top 5 tracks from every other album. (now she has all of them)she actually liked them too, i think i just couldn't've made the mistake of sending them all at once, or starting off with 1039 sosh ( some other ppl i've tried to play gd for said they didnt like it as much as ai)
GuitarPlayer5 Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 My friend is stuck in the 70's or something, but he was born in the 90's. He owns a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am and listens to old rock bands like Motley Crue and AC/DC. I put American Idiot in his CD player and cranked up "Letterbomb." He was trying to act like he didn't enjoy it, but he was nodding his head and he didn't tell me to turn it off. He's stubborn, but I forced him to actually listen to them and he liked them. When people hear one song on the radio by Green Day that they don't like, they don't give the rest of their music a chance. They just assume that is all that they wrote. All their music is awesome. You just have to explore and see which songs you like and dislike. Now, most of my friends own a Green Day album. It's pretty cool when you and your friends enjoy the same music.

I like my gospel music in church.
