iluvgdlikecrazy
I don't mean to be horrid but the fact that you had to look that up on an internet dictionary shows me only too well that people cannot define punk for themselves. What I was trying to say, is that punk cannot be defined as just a type of music, or fashion statement. it means different things to different people. I was trying to say that these people who are defining Green Day as one thing or the other can only be wrong- Green Day are Green Day be it their music or their personalities, you cannot put a word on what they are because they are an enigma.(btw the thing about the gay men is in the Green Day special edition of Metal Hammer0- page 41 if you don't believe me! )*claps*
justcause
Ok, guys, I swear to god I just found this interview now - but I had to share this pieceBJ: Punk will never be dead to me. Even if it's never played on the radio ever again, it's my life. And maybe that's the same old story with me, but I can never just drop this lifestyle. It's me. It embodies me.I thought 'embody' was my word!
PurpleHex
Great article. I liked the way it tells the people who only concentrate on the merchandise etc to fuck off, none of that is a reflection on the great band that is Green Day.But whether they are ''Punk'' I dont know. That word I think is past tense for Green Day, but I dont doubt its still in their hearts as a main inspiration. At the end of the day I start to think Who cares anyway?, their music is still amazing, the only thing that annoys me is people concentrating on the cosmetic side of it uch as their image and merchandise, the sell-out accusation, at the end of the day its what comes out of the CD player that matters, the music. ImaSneak
are you kidding me? wtfthat is completely 100% BSGreen Day is not punk they are "punx"and trust me Punx is not coolReal punks, will kick the shit out of you if your punxanyway back to green day they're punx not punk theres a big differencePunx is new age bullshit like New found glory and green daywho don't know jackjust hope you don't get your ass kicked when someone reads thisgo to a subhumans concert and write punx on your knuckles see what happens
mbk
^Are the Subhumans the most recent punk band you can think of? Up to date much are we? You can make an argument that Green Day are not punk (tho you didn't), but you certainly can't say they don't know jack. I've already posted my 'yes they are' seriously, comprehensively, and I've backed up my opinions - I see little point in repeating it if people aren't going to take me up on specific things I've said. Your three main points seem to be how anyone with a different point of view is gonna get their ass kicked, and if you think punk is about anything else, you don't say so. You feel strongly, but you're not really telling me anything. I've said what punk means to me, from BritPunk onwards - what does it mean to you, exactly? It's just a pity when you leave me in a position where I can't give the argument you undoubtedly have in there somewhere the respect it deserves. All that's coming across is intolerance, which is the opposite of punk; and as for not being cool - why would I care what anyone else thinks is cool? Cool is what I like, not what someone else tells me it should be; if you go thru life depending on the approval of others, you'll never be authentic - and 'authentic' is the true mark of punk, under anyone's definition. Anyone else, feel free to rant also - as I've repeatedly said, I respect everyone's right to their opinion and I want to hear it. But know that I'm only gonna respond in future when someone presents me with an actual argument where we can further understanding; pissing contests are kind of a waste of time, and who needs them? †All_Ages27†
according to me it does not import if the Green Day is punk, the fundamental thing is that they make of the good music!!

So glad you stopped in for a rare visit just to enlighten us with such a well thought out insight... Yo thats just how I roll. But yo, seriously, take into account everything that they've done. Aight now run that through the punkilator 8000. Aight now what do you get. Negative. You just can't call them punk, it just wouldn't make sense. Green Day and Choking Victim? Green Day and Black Flag? Green Day and Crass? I dunno man something done gone stirring the Kool-Aid. But what-evs punk sux anyways.
Punk Butterfly
I really love green day but to say they are punk makes no sence. really.you can say them pop punk but NOT punk. Punk are Sex Pistols. NOT green day. Just NOT. -the end.
BlueAngelX
So there’s this fucking great band whose music has always been about truth. Music that’s never deviated from a standard, never sold an audience short, never given less than 100%, given till it hurts. They’re down-to-earth, unpretentious, still connected to their roots, still socially active and concerned, still kicking ass. Fuck the merch, fuck the ringtones, fuck the crappy covers of September - fuck everything extraneous that they don’t concern themselves with.Who they are is what punk is ; no-one can take away from them what they owned for themselves.AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!That article is amazingly written!!!I agree with it 100%!!! **walking contradiction**
I think there is no need to discuss are green day punk or not altough I do agree with the article 100%. They are who they want to be and that is all that we fans should care about. I think that they are too extraordinary and too fucking good to be in any kind of music genre. THEY ARE KICKING ASS IN THEY OWN WAY SORRY ABOUT THE FONT THING :/
