German tv channel showed the whole performance, i was surprised.

Everything as expected, reddit has a meltdown right now because GD didnt say anything against trump etc, but its the nfl, they probably were not allowed to say anything.

That was so strange to me. I didn’t expect them to say anything crazy but to take out chunks of Holiday (really any spicy line) and take out the agenda part of AI is definitely a choice. It’s not like it would’ve hurt them to sing those lyrics, not to mention the chopped up medley was just weird. I feel like they should’ve just picked a song to do. It honestly probably hurts them more that they played it that safe. I know I’m a little disappointed. Even if they didn’t say MAGA agenda, why not sing the songs like they were written? If the NFL did have them with a fine for saying verses of holiday or American idiot as is idk why the band would want to be restricted like that.  I think they just wanted to be that safe and that’s sad.

the boys have literally been speaking out against the government for the past 21 years now, at stadiums, on live TV, etc.

the fact that they were even allowed to play a SLIVER of american idiot and holiday at the FUCKING SUPER BOWL is already nuts.

That was disappointing.  I wasn't expecting anything massive since it's not their own show, but at least just do American Idiot instead of a stupid medley, have the maga agenda line, and it would have been fine.  Instead they looked truly like an opening band with nothing to say.  It pisses off their supporters and doesn't win them any new fans.  They should have just not accepted this if this was all they were going to do.

Its always like this, people make false hopes out of nothing and get hyped, just do be disappointed in the end, and then blame the origin (the band)

Its not the oscars or grammys, its the nfl superbowl, getting badbunny and greenday to play at their show is surprising enough imo, and the boys took full advantage of it by performing with high rock energy

 

(And keep in mind, this was not about greenday, it was about the mvp ceremony in the end)

There's a time and place for everything. People just demand things nowadays and feel entitled for other people's behaviour. Green Day have been extremely vocal about the issues for ever. They don't need to scream it during the Superbowl opening to prove it to anyone.

I'm not surprised at all with what we got, but I'm a little disappointed that they didn't even hint at anything, the other night Billie had a Minnesota Rebel Alliance sticker on his guitar, it didn't say "fuck ice" or anything but it had a logo inspired by the Star Wars rebel alliance logo and it would have been perfect for him to play that guitar tonight

Expectations were always gonna be impossible for this. People started digging up clips from 2016 as if that same thing was gonna happen tonight. I figured the NFL would find a way to keep them on their best behavior. 

Would've been nice for them to say something out of the ordinary, but it's still pretty impressive to sing "Fuck America" in this climate.

I’ve criticised Green Day for being Sheltered Rich Men in the past, but I personally don’t think it’s a massive deal that they didn’t make this performance political. It would’ve made zero difference to anyone, except perhaps making them slightly richer from all the press, and this was one of the biggest moments of their career. Fair if they wanted to enjoy it without making some performative statement.
