Youngblood2010 Posted Wednesday at 02:11 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:11 AM Hey everyone. Last Sunday (September 21) was the 21st anniversary of American Idiot. That's right: 21 years on the 21st. But I want to take the time to address a specific track: "Wake Me Up When September Ends." Every Idiot knows the story: Billie Joe lost his father, Andrew, to esophageal cancer when he was just 10 years old. But he's not the only one. So many die each year from esophageal cancer (over 16,000 nationally), and the survival rates are way too low. I was moved by this song, and now I'm moving to do my part to help. You can donate to EC Aware at https://www.ecaware.org/give/donate/, a nonprofit esophageal cancer organization (there's even an option to leave your donation as a tribute to someone). No pressure to donate, I'm just asking to spread the word. I know September's almost over, but it doesn't end there. Let's start now and continue moving forward. Join the cause. For Billie Joe, for Andrew, and for everyone else who's been left behind. Thanks for taking the time to be a part of this cause. "I've been waiting a long time for this moment to come, I'm destined for anything... at all." 1 Quote
