twentyphanday Posted September 14, 2025 Posted September 14, 2025 (edited) while i was searching for some lost green day content, i stumbled across a thread on the Lost Media Wiki forum about a lost radio version of holiday. essentially, back then lots of alternative rock songs had to be edited in order to comply with the pop radio stations censor. An example of this is Boulevard Of Broken Dreams which had one version which censored the profanities only, while the other had the bridge and solo removed thus making it a minute shorter than the original. The same thing happened to holiday, the pop radio edit removes the bridge/bass solo after the guitar solo at 2:17 and comes back into the final chorus at 3:03. i’ve seen recreations of the thing however from what I’ve read, that version of holiday is COMPLETELY lost. So i was wondering if anyone here possibly has it or atleast heard of it, I’m aware there’s a rule implemented regarding copyrighted material, but I’ve just been so CURIOUS about the entire thing since every discussion I’ve seen about it is from 4 years ago… Edited September 14, 2025 by twentyphanday 2 Quote
Mega Man Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I'm still searching for it haha. I searched through all of Soulseek a little while ago, they only had the clean alternative radio edit. It's funny that I used to hear this version on the radio so many times that it was the default version of the song in my mind. 1 Quote
Karl Karlson Posted February 22 Posted February 22 The only versions I know of are the Radio Edit (with "Sieg Heil" completely silenced and "F*gs" censored) and the Clean Radio Edit (with "F*gs" censored), on both those edits the last chorus starts at around 3:03. If the bridge was cut the last chorus would start on around 2:18 and the whole song would be around 3:03 long. Maybe the version you're mentioning was done by local radio stations and was never pressed on CD's? I'm not sure. I have never seen any Holiday promo CD's out there with such an edit, but I don't want to discourage you in your quest That one BOBD promo with the Pop edits only popped up a few yeas ago, so one like that for "Holiday" might be sold some day. 1 Quote
Mega Man Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I'm convinced that it was through digital distribution; I've tracked down all the US radio single CDs, and even tried some foreign Holiday singles, but none had that edit. It might be specific to a radio station, if not for feedback from other people around the country back when I was on the hunt. 1 Quote

Perhaps you’re right and it’s a local radio thing only! But then again many ppl from across the country has claimed to have to heard it before so maybe it was a thing warner made and distributed to radio stations. Quote
Insomniac1984 Posted yesterday at 08:36 AM Posted yesterday at 08:36 AM Well, it's really common that certain countries like France or Denmark has rare edits for Green Day songs. I know there is another Radio Edit for Oh Love which lenght is just 3 minutes. Also, there is a rare radio edit for When I come around which was in a Radio Promo CD from a Mexican Radio station called "Radio Activa". Unfortunately, The song at the beggining is watermarked. Also, I would dare to say the song 21st Century Breakdown has another Radio Edit which is a "Lost media". I remember it has the intro part with acoustic guitar sampler, but the song is shorter than the album version. And finally, one of the biggest "mysteries" in GD's Radio Edits are the Radio Versions for Walking Contradiction. In my youtube channel are available the Radio Edit #2 (The same mix for WC videoclip) and the Radio Version (which comes from a green CD promo). However, there is a "Radio Version 2" from an orange CD Promo. I asked to 3 people who have this CD about this version and one of them told me that (supposedly) is the same as Radio Edit #2. And last year appeared another CD Promo with a "Remix Clean Edition" in discogs. And these are just a few examples... Quote
