They should have gone deeper into the interviews about where the band really was at the end of the Warning era, with a triumphant finish to where they ended up. They did that loosely but more interviews with the people involved like Rob Cavallo, Warner execs, etc. cut all the repeat footage from HLAHG and BIAB and for god’s sake give up on the story that the tapes were stolen and just tell the truth. Instead of “we had a lot of fun on tour”, show how they first wrote an okay album, their career was on the line, the label pushed them to do something better and with hard work and sacrifice (like two divorces and a DUI) they got there and succeeded. It’s an emotional story if they ever want to really tell it. Exactly! That would have been an amazing narrative and so interesting to watch. Or if they didn't want to make it so personal, they could have focused on the creative process. They could have also talked people through some of the demos, like the Homecoming one. What inspired them to do that, how they started piecing it together... how it evolved into the version that was released, same for JoS and Lowlife, how they came about to merge the two of them, etc. I can think of a few different angles they could have given the documentary to make it a cohesive story that would have been fantastic to watch and so valuable for any fan. 2 Quote
Popular Post The Grohl Posted November 7, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 7, 2024 The documentary definitely has its shortcomings. I also thought it would have more of a narrative and take us through the timeline of everything leading to American Idiot and beyond. But I still enjoyed all the fun bits we got especially things we didn't get on HLAHG and BIAB. Definitely feel like there was more they could've done, but I'm still happy with it. I had a good time watching it, whereas HLAG is decent....but then I remember the dance number in the beginning and I get mad all over again. Really disappointed that a disc was wasted on that. 8 Quote

DookieLukie Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Really annoyed how the regular tracks for AI 20th on Spotify are so quiet. Sounds like they turned the sound down and I'm constantly having to turn up the volume for these relative to other tracks. Quote

Hello hdtracks buyers I'm not surprised if they used the hdtracks masters of 21st century breakdown and trilogy albums for their anniversary remaster lineup. Quote

Yes! Everyone's Breaking Down instrumental bits took me right back to the instrumental bits in the King for a Day medley they used to play live. Keep in mind the last time I heard this was 2010, but it sounds exactly as I remember it. Quote
greendepent Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Gotta say, that is incredible that in that short time span they managed to make this record. They did the Homecoming thing, ripped apart to make own songs, some of them really good (I'm looking at ya, Lowlife) then rebuild them again. Even if there was some material I think is missing (like the other parts of JOS) is by far the most satisfactory boxset they had released. The next ones can't be less than this, you know? Quote

I don't feel the need to change the volume for other songs/albums with the setting on loud. 1 Quote
That Dude Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I made a 21+ minute version of Homecoming with all the demos added in along with the final movements as well. Essentially a 9-10 part song instead of 5, and I really tried to put them in the correct order. So Mike's Parts and Tre's Part are chopped up and put where they make sense. I thought YouTube would block this, but it gave me the option to buy the usage of the song for 4.99 so.....I kind of own Homecoming now (haha!) Yes, you have to wait 4 days. 1 2 Quote

Watched it last night, slightly disappointed that it’s not actually a documentary and more a compilation of old clips but still a nice memento of that period of time when I first became a fan. 🥰 2 Quote
M1KEY Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 This may have been pointed out eons ago but I haven't been here and won't be scanning the discussion... Every time I listened to Lowlife, the parts that go “Will I find what’s left behind / crash and burn, there’s no return” drove me crazy cause I was like, where else have I heard Billie sing that melody?! And finally I realized it’s a melody from Angel and the Jerk by Penelope Houston from the Friends (again) soundtrack. You can most clearly hear Billie’s backing vocals in the “look at me, who do you see? / take today, I break away” parts. 2 Quote
