Initially, upon listening to the low quality listening party leaks, I was underwhelmed by this song. Lyrically, I'm still not the biggest fan of it, but the great production (cheers, Cavallo) and eye-catching music video have got me sold in the end. Also, I love the 90s influences in this song, ranging from Weezer to The Pixies and Nirvana. And say what you will, it sure gets stuck in your head.

This song is just beautiful. Perhaps my absolute favourite Green Day song of all time. It serves as a litmus test for bigots. If you don’t like the message of the song and if the chorus makes you feel uncomfortable, then you need to consider if this band is for you or not.

This song is so joyous. Pure and wholesome, and the quiet verses leading into the passion of the choruses is just so good. And the sexual fluidity of it 😍😍

I was not a huge fan of this song at first but I’ve now found myself replaying it a ton. Also the music video is so cute, it enhances the song so much. Billie’s screaming no longer seems as jarring, I think it just needed time to grow on me, personally.

Wholesome is the perfect way to describe this song. It's a cute song about doing the most mundane things with your favorite person. Also, I get chills whenever Billie sings "DO YOU WANNA BE MY BOOOOYFRIEND?!" The riff is very Weezer, but that's fine. It works for the song.

This starts so sweetly and just builds to this strong, joyous, passionate (dare I say) anthem.  Great song, the beginning is a real contrast after LMNB but then suddenly it fits.  Can't sit still to this one either.  Billie's vocals and screaming are awesome and I love Mike ooooohing in the back.  Love the ending too, another longish one, gives it a bit of a live feel when they crash everything.  Great song,

It is but I also get Nirvana, that screechy grunge sound that Green Day never had.

Love this song, the bit where the guitars drop out and its just the bass leading the song is amazing. Reminds me of Gigantic by Pixies. The music video is pretty cool, definitely mirrors the early 90s sound of the song.

 

It also uses the quiet verse, loud chorus pattern that Pixies and Nirvana are well known for.

I had similar thinking when reading the lyrics (and even seeing the song title for the first time months back.)

I thought “what the hell is this weird title? These lyrics are basic.”

then hearing the track I am in love with the music,  vocal delivery, and production. Not at all weird or basic.

God this song refuses to end quietly and I love it! The production on the guitars really shines here. And it captures that feeling of falling in love so much. Incredible.

Watching the video I cannot stop to think that they kinda did recreate an old show from 1990.

I wasn't a big fan of the tiny snippet they released before the album came out, but wow, now this song has become my 2nd favourite after Dilemma. I love the contrast of the quiet parts and the explosion of passion in the chorus. Can't stop listening!

Goofy would be Van McCann from Catfish and the Bottlemen. Used to take them at least half an hour to set his mic up (think they weighted the bottom of the stand or something) and he had this weird way of singing into it Can't think how to better describe it

Right? I hyped this song up from the listening party and then my friends heard the snippet and were like “*that’s* the one you think is so great?” But out of context that yelling part does sound bad! But in the context of the song it’s like OMG THIS IS GREAT

I just had a thought about the title and setting of this song. Back in 2022 we had photos of Billie, Adrienne and I think Kevin and Vicki from the showing of Grease at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  He posed for pictures in front of a vintage jukebox.  So much of that event sounds like this song.  "I'll take you to a movie that we've already seen" and "We'll walk the cemetery and I'll kiss you again" and the title Bobby Sox can refer to Grease with all the 50's girls wearing Bobby Sox in the movie.  (As for the fact that he was there with both 80 and Kevin I’ll let you draw your own conclusion 😉)
