Green Day/Billie Joe Armstrong - I Get Around (The Beach Boys Cover)

Billie Joe Armstrong posted and then deleted this 'I Get Around' Beach Boys Cover. I think it sounds amazing!!!! Anyway... I think it's more likely a solo cover (no fun mondays/longshot style so to speak) 'cause i can only here BJ' s voice. What do you guys think?

Never cared for the Beach Boys but I am looking forward to listening to this. Not sure this is related to the coming new music since as others have suggested here, it seems to just be like a No Fun Mondays kinda thing. Not sure why he took it down; maybe he did get out ahead of some announcement.

Is it possible that 1972 is a bunch of covers, this time by GD instead of just Billie? Probably not but it does make me wonder.

I feel like this only makes sense if the songs were all originally from 1972. "I Get Around" was released in 1963. Hard for me to feel like this is related but I could be wrong.

I think this too. Unrelated to the new project and unrelated to 1972 and maybe by mistake. But so much detail and posting a series so I am not thinking it was posted to the official public account by mistake but maybe a rethink of posting later? Maybe it was just a tease. Not sure. Basically haha I just realized I have no opinion and don’t have a theory of what’s going on. No idea.

I love the teasing and speculation with actual stuff to speculate happening again!

I don’t think so. He did say they recorded six new songs. An album might include a cover like The Longshot album did, but I don’t think he’d release a full covers album again after just doing one.  Fans would be pretty let down after that tease we got that they recorded in London. Why go to London to record the Beach Boys?  More likely just an at home thing he was messing around with

They’re not for everyone but you should give ‘em another shot! Pretty much anything from their 65-73 period is gold. 

And the boys (Green Day) sound great! Hope this ends up seeing some official release.

Not sure, because the song in the teaser doesn’t sound like a cover, as far as I can tell

Elvis Costello pulled it off with a baritone and a string quartet he could figure it out. Beautiful song

I really hope he doesn’t cover God Only Knows. That’s a cringy cheesy song for me. I think that song is often sung at weddings. I don’t want him to morph into a wedding singer even for a second. I just remembered he sang at Mark Zuckerberg’s wedding. I wonder if it was a money thing. Or maybe they’re close friends. Who knows. I got off track. Basically I really hope he never covers God Only Knows. Or regularly sings at weddings.

I Get Around is pretty fun. I like it.

 No Fun Mondays volume 2 makes sense. But we also have 1972 coming soon, so maybe he’ll release both on his birthday?!?!?

I have a feeling the covers are a Billie Joe solo thing and the 1972 project are separate and maybe he deleted it thinking it’s better to just keep the excitement going for the new Green Day project. Maybe. Not sure. Plus, he has the New Years Eve solo performance coming up very soon. That could be another reason not to dilute the fan base with covers until maybe a few months from now. 

This pandemic is going on and on and making people so sad. I hope No Fun Mondays make a comeback after the excitement of the Billie Joe New Years Eve performance and the new 1972 Green Day project. So many fun things to look forward in spite of another shitty end to a shitty year. Thank god for Green Day. No wonder they’re God’s favorite band.

I get that. One thing that EC does so well that I wish Green Day would do is rearrange and reinterpret his old songs when he plays them live. They can be wildly different and it makes a song you’ve heard a thousand times fresh and interesting again.  If Billie feels like writing new material has become a struggle, I’d be happy instead of him doing covers if he would rearrange his hits and play them differently, very much like he did with Good Riddance for the audible. That was brilliant.
