Even if they just play 1981 again without the technical issues they had last time, that'd be cool.

Some of the 1981 haters may even change their opinions on it and I'd be like, "Told ya so!!!"

Definitely I think the song will be better amd longer I believe billie forgot the second verse jumped to the bridge because he was struggling with his ear monitor not working that would give anyone high anxiety especially while trying to play a new song live

I hope the chorus isn't as repetitive on the album reminds me of "here comes the shock" that's not a good thing lol

Or he could've skipped the next verse so he can give us a taste of new music without giving too much away. Like what if the album is story driven and the next verse gives away part of the story?

He forgot a verse and jumped to the bridge without telling Mike, Tré and Jason and they all follow with the right chords? No way. That's the full song we heard.

He couldn't hear out of his ear monitor that's a fact and the transition was a bit off

They haven't had any albums after 21st Century Breakdown according to their setlist.   Just been steady working on American Dream for the last 12 years.

Can’t blame them for wanting to take a break from the Rock Opera Political Idiot style. BUT I AM STOKED AT THE POTENTIAL RETURN OF IT!

We've discussed this before. When ear monitor failed he couldn't hear the other players due to noise of crowd etc. Yet he kept up, kept his calm and  knew where he was and came back right on key. Demonstrating what an amazing and  professional musician he is as always.

It's a completely new song that they probably chose to play at last minute. If the issues happened on any older song, like Basket Case for example, Billie wouldn't have missed a beat!!!

Let's not pretend that the issues with 1981 were entirely down to the technical issues. The song itself just doesn't seem that interesting. I highly doubt a studio version of the song will be hugely better.

I mean, it could just be one of the album fillers, but it was super exciting to hear a new song!!!

Respect your view. Even with whatever caused the song to go wrong, it was amazing just to hear a brand new GD song for the first time. I'm reserving judgement until I hear it live again and the studio version. Imho I really like it.

Filler: where artist/songwriter deliberately puts substandard material on an album to pad our the tracklist.

I know it happens, but being really honest, I struggle with this where GD is concerned. Maybe I'm biased or naïve, that GD would do this all the time, particularly during  '90s?

You do realize that video didn't capture the whole song?

This one did:

You honestly think there's no second verse! Just jumps to the bridge?

1981 wasn’t good and was very paint-by-numbers. People on here will love it for reasons like it being new of because they were at the concert it debuted at, but that’s just fan bias.

I agree but I'm willing to bet the studio version won't be that bland

I agree I wasn't a huge fan I was happy to hear something new what I heard didn't sound like a hit single but that's just going by the live version we'll see what happens

Felt this way about 'young blood' I think it's one of their worst songs felt like a filler track 'back in the usa' would've fit revolution radio

I think 1981 having a proper vocal melody will make a pretty huge difference. There's also some pretty cool backing vocals in the chorus that are barely audible in the live version which I think will elevate it a lot (i.e it's not totally just one line repeated).
