Popular Post pacejunkie punk Posted May 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 4, 2023 So a project begun in 2021 won’t be out until 2024. Just a theory, but is it possible this album is so good that they know it will be successful and award worthy and they don’t want to be lost in all the rock releases coming out this year so they’re pushing it to next awards season when they’ll have the spotlight to themselves? I don’t know just trying to find a silver lining in all this, some benefit to waiting. 6
DookieLukie Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 It better be good if they’ve been working on it for three years lol 3
Clockwise Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Kind of insane that this will be the longest gap between records in their career. 1

They are looking for the best window to release the album without any other big act on the way. They want full attention on them. 6

Popular Post alienlifeform Posted May 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 4, 2023 At this point, I hope all this wait give us an album longer then 10 songs, which seems to be the new normal for bands 5

He’s usually very reliable He’s been correct and release dates/tours multiple times before and we right now have no reason to doubt him
DookieLukie Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Wouldn’t an early 2024 release hurt any award show traction? Grammys cutoff is Sept I believe and releasing so early for the 2024 Grammys would probably lose award momentum. And don’t winter albums sell pretty poorly? I guess it depends how far into 2024 we’re talking. 2

Why make a 14 song album when you can make a 10 song album and already have 4 songs ready for the next album, I guess. 1
Popular Post Little Boy Named Booze Posted May 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 4, 2023 This album better be good because I swear to god if it's another "let party and snort cocaine" album I'm done with them. Let say the album drop in January or February. I guess it's possible to have a single + announcement in October/November... Fuck I'm disappointed. 14 1 3
nflsbest26 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I'm still skeptical of the entire situation. My gut keeps telling me something is still coming for this summer... 1
Popular Post MillenniumFan Posted May 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 4, 2023 A release in 2024 seems ions off, but it could make sense. *if* indeed this would be away from other big acts and with a tour matching the AI anniversary, this could indeed be a deliberate move. I mean, headlines such as *20 years after American Idiot dominated the airwaves, Green Day are back again* certainly have a nice ring to them, you gotta admit haha. I don't know, it seems weird that they would float the idea of the album getting released so much earlier, but I presume when they set out they had a lot smaller ambitions and as time went on they decided that actually, there was a lot more they could do with the next release, including deliberate marketing and release at the right time. That's my theory. If plans indeed changed and the album gets released next year it would make sense that the teasers died down. Because what the band, management and marketing would have wanted, was not to create hype around an album that is going to be released a year from now or so, but rather let the hype fizzle out and create fresh hype once it's appropriate. It's why I think the weirdest thing of all would be to drop the singles and album now or in the near future, given how few teasers we've had recently. It's all very mystical, but regardless of how frustrated people are right now (and I get it), I feel like we'll understand a lot better once the album drops. I don't know if it will be any good, but based on what we have heard so far and the staffing (Cavallo and CLM), I think we're in for something big, either way. 9
PleasedToMeetMe Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 To be fair it says right in the beginning that the album is “due early next year”, even if it was written in 2022 we’re already coming up on the halfway point of 2023 soon. Early 2024 seems very likely 👍 1

New album + AI = something fresh, nostalgia, maybe some awesome merch from both eras, old b-sides and so on. Maybe GD marketing staff ain't so dumb after all. 1
Popular Post jumpsalty Posted May 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 4, 2023 2024 is literally only 7 months away and is also 20 year anniversary of American idiot 5
