Glee apparently secured the rights to Good Riddance and recorded a version of it for their third season finale, but it wasn't featured in the episode. It ended up going on one of their soundtrack albums called "The Graduation Album."

Wow surprised I know tv using songs is good for money but you would think Green Day would be against glee and riverdale using there songs

I mean...they had a song in the Twilgiht series. I think $$ talks, especially easy money for a song they released close to 25 years ago.

I mean, I get why they did it. but... riverdale? really green day? the show about the hallucinated dnd game? some kids are exclusively gonna associate this song with that show now, which makes me laugh more than I care to admit.

Don't know this show but, really, could anything be worse than having a track on twilight? At least they got some money...

Well hardly anyone buys music anymore so what’s a band to do?

Who cares? It's Green Day on TV, which is usually nice.

"the show about the hallucinated dnd game?" You sure you're not thinking about Stranger Things?

Nah I think they had an episode about dnd too.

Oh okay, I've never seen Riverdale. I just know a few details about it. I have however seen Stranger Things, and "hallucinated dnd game" sounds a lot more like Stranger Things then Riverdale.

Riverdale has no plot and the characters are so underdeveloped that it's a crime. The "plot" is just teenagers doing shit they have no business doing and uncomfortable sex scenes. It's worse than Twilight.

It's like a shitty reboot of The Young and the Restless that is loosely based off of the Archie comics.

Well, now that I think of it, it's probably more Days of Our Lives.

Season 4 is about a game called Gryphons and Gargoyles. It's just off brand dnd.

Who remembers 21 Guns in the first Transformers movie? That was cringey too.

I don't get it why some of fans have a problem with Good Riddance being played in Riverdale. Does it blemish Green Day reputation or what??

Not really. They were actually smart to sell it to them; Riverdale must get a lot of viewers to not have been canceled yet, and as there's no way Green Day gets as much money from Spotify streams as physical music sales, this was a good way to profit off an old song. Most fans understand that, and anyone getting massively angry about it probably already thinks they're sellouts anyway.

Riverdale is just stupid, so I find it hilarious they sold them the song. And Green Day in the past has refused to let teen drama shows like Glee use there music, so I for one was surprised. Though, maybe I shouldn't have been as they’ve apparently done the twilight and transformers soundtrack before.

Sadly, no, the supernatural dnd phenomenon is now apparently a common tv trope.

I don't know the show, but on principle, what's the issue with having a song used in a movie or a tv show? Green Day has a history of being featured in shitty movies, but who cares, really. Free money and exposure for the band. As long as the film isn't Nazi propaganda or something else reprehensible like that, I see no problem.

I haven't ever watched Riverdale, but my understanding of it is it is a high school drama based on the original Archie comics. Other than that I don't know much about it. As others have said here, I don't really know why it would be a problem for a Green Day song to be in the show. Green Day's music has appeared in a lot of tv shows and movies. If nothing else, it's publicity and it  proves that they are still popular.

At least it's not as bad as that time Johnny Rotten was in a butter commercial 🤷‍♀️

Are we forgetting that they were Angry Birds?

Have they ever featured on a good movie/show though? 😄

(I know a lot of folks like Austin Powers, but it's not really my cup of tea)

Angus (has J.A.R in it) from 1995 was super good.

No, the motherfuckers over at Riverdale stole the damn song. I have it on good authority that Billie is pissed and will make it known tonight during their Superbowl performance. "Fuck you Archie!"
