pacejunkie punk Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Where does he find these bands? This is a great song and theme appropriate once again. Love this. Would be a great live cover for The Shot. I really hope these all get uploaded to Spotify eventually as an album Just now, jengd said: And Kevin and David in the video! jengd Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Great song, it and the band are new to me but it suits Billie’s voice very well, another cracker! 4 Quote
That Dude Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Another band to check out. Thanks, Billie Joe! 1 Quote
pacejunkie punk Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 For anyone who's curious, Starjets are an Irish band from the 70's. Here's the original: 2 1 Quote
jengd Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 The man seems to have heard every song by every band ever! I couldn’t believe it when GD covered the Skids song, most Scots had never heard of the Skids! 2 1 Quote

DookieLukie Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Billie clearly loves the lo-fi, Longshot-style classic rock production. I think it suits him. Odd he went the opposite way on FOAM. 3 1 Quote

Popular Post Montclare Posted April 27, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 27, 2020 Laughing at Kevin and David getting closeups and Jeff being cut out. Just a random bass player now. 7 Quote

I think it’s because he is a musicologist and master of general history of rock and familiar with all the good bands from past and today so feel like he is kinda nerdy about it. 2 1 Quote
pacejunkie punk Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I would love to hear him perform this on Corden tomorrow. Catchy song, I can't stop playing it. This might be my new favorite (and it was last week's before that) 2 1 Quote

Otherwise the songs Billie wrote at the end of 2017 would have gone into a 2018 Green Day album instead of The Longshot. My theory is he wanted to do more power pop and wary of the trilogy they did not. Just a theory of course but why else would the Longshot have happened and FOAM went off in an entirely different direction. That was a side project that came out of nowhere just when it seemed as though Green Day were full steam ahead. I think to the extent Green Day is still a democracy, Billie was overruled. And it was kind of a shame because power pop is clearly where his passion currently lies and he's great at it. He said in the new Alt Press that doing the Longshot was the most fun and inspired he'd felt in a while. Not Green Day. Longshot. 3 Quote
pacejunkie punk Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 And does anyone want to talk about the amazing guitar riffs at the end of this song? Sounds like something out of Insomniac era to me. 3 Quote
Virginia Lot Lizard Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Love you @pacejunkie punk I love what you said there. It’s interesting to think about. I love this band. So passionate and interesting and obviously they all care. It’s amazing. Also. Longshot. And also. When FBHT was going on during the writing/recording of 21CBthat was what made him happy too. FBHT. I think he even said he didn’t like being in Green Day at that point. He likes the smaller rock’n’roll power pop exciting side projects with the wickedly great songs and songs that seems to have more feeling. Personal feelings it seems like. Green Day is a monster. A beautiful monster but kind of difficult to deal with maybe. American Idiot changed things a lot. And it’s like the Trilogy was trying to take the small special type of writing and themes and feed them to the monster. I don’t know what happened there. The Trilogy was a beautiful idea and all that stuff but it wasn’t executed as well as the Longshot or FBHT. That’s weird. Should have been the opposite. Does anyone have a link for the new Alt Press where these things are said? I am so behind! 1 Quote
