It just occurred to me that considering his most recent instagram comments where he said things like “burn your past” and “nostalgia dies”, the album artwork may in fact not be a fuck you to Warners after all but in fact a fuck you to his own back catalogue. He’s saying screw American Idiot and your expectations, here’s something new.

Wait for the whole album before you say that. He was just talking about the influences on their current sound not this one song in particular I think. You don’t always hear those influences on the final product.
