pacejunkie punk Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I wonder how much of this was Billie’s? He just can’t not write a great song. I love this.

It just feels like a BJA chorus. Lyrics (this is what I'm hearing, so not official) Verse 1: It’s hard living in a broken world Too much division in a broken world Nobody listens in a broken world I’m on a mission, I wanna know When it’s dark as a dungeon, Can you be a light? Can you bring peace in a middle of a fight? When see separation can you unite? When you see them doing wrong, Can you do what’s right? Chorus: From the bottom of our hearts From the top of our lungs We're crying out for unity Well the battle's just begun Let love be your foundation Let wisdom by your guide 'Til the problems that we're facing Can no longer divide a broken world! Verse 2: It’s hard living in a broken world Too much division in a broken world Nobody listens in a broken world I’m on a mission, I wanna know If you enemy was drowning was drowning Would you pull them to shore? If a stranger was stopping Would you open your door? Are there any revolutionaries here anymore? And what you gonna be remembered for? Chorus [Bridge] Let’s go! Hey! Oh, oh, oh Outro: From the bottom of our hearts From the top of our lungs We're crying out for unity Well the battle's just begun Let love be your foundation Let wisdom by your guide 'Til the problems that we're facing Can no longer divide a broken world!

UNICORN VOMIT Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Followed the album release on spotify & didn't even notice. Love these guys - Im a fan since seeing them last year x5
Hermione Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 In the tradition of ska songs it sounds exactly like every other ska song. Not bad though. Would be interested to know exactly what Billie contributed but I guess we won't.

Chin for a Day Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I have to agree with Hermione. It just doesn't sound anything special. It isn't bad. It just isn't special. In defense of ska, no one sounds like Sublime.
gaslight13 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I honestly hate most ska, but I love these guys. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Billie wrote 90% of the lyrics and they finished the song, but it could be as minor as him just writing the guitar part too. Who knows.
That Dude Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 This song sounds like it could be slowed down and made into a Green Day ballad. Definitely has a Green Day sound. Or Billie Joe sound, whatever.
nopride84 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 where has it been said that billie cowrote this? Maybe the melody or the music sounds too much like green day so they gave billoe a writing credit like they did for brutal love. But i tried listening to hear if anything sounds like a green day ripoff but lost interest within the first verse and realized i didnt care . plus the lyrics are kinda pedestrian even compared to the trilogy.

The Bellie Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 The music is okay to me, but the words are definitely Billie-sounding. I wouldn't be surprised if the lyrics practically all are from him. I'd bet he wrote at least those: from the bottom of our hearts, to the top of our lungs we’re crying out for unity, when you see separation can you unite? and when you see ‘em doing wrong can you do what’s right? if your enemy was drowning would you pull him to shore? if a stranger was starving would you open your door? are there any revolutionaries here anymore? and what you gonna be remembered for?
Thatsername Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 This song screams „Billie“. Love it. I’m not the biggest Interrupters fan, but this one and Gave You Everything from the new record are really great.
jengd Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I really like the Interrupters, thought they were a great opener for GD and I like ska so it's all good. I saw somewhere that Billie was credited with co-writing the lyrics as opposed to the music, and I think they have his stamp all over them.

He told Howard Stern he was too selfish to write a song for another artist because if something turns out really good he’d want to keep it for himself. I guess this doesn’t apply to collabs, because these are some really great lyrics and he’s just all, here you go. Hope he’s got more like this for Green Day. Socially/politically conscious but uplifting and inspiring. ❤️

Squashie Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I can just see them wheeling that harp out on stage for him to play. Or would it be Freeses' job to learn/play harp?

It’ll be Freese and then Billie will learn a few bars just to play in Italy so they all cheer for him for doing next to nothing 😝.
proud_ginge Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Interview with the Interrupters explaining how the song came about - http://dyingscene.com/news/ds-exclusive-fighting-the-good-fight-with-kevin-and-aimee-of-the-interrupters/ K: The world needs more love, and I think that the Martin Luther King Jr. quote, that “darkness cannot drive out more darkness, only light can do that” is perfect. The other cool thing about “Broken World,” is that the riff of that song (*sings riff*) and the chord change in the chorus with the melody that goes with it is something that was given to us by Billie Joe (Armstrong) from Green Day when we were on tour with them. I’ll never forget it. We were in Santiago, Chile, and we played a show, and there were a couple of hours before we had to go to the airport, so we were hanging out with Green Day and their families. It was an amazing experience. And (Billie Joe) goes “hey, I have an idea for a song that I think could be a really cool Interrupters song.” And he grabbed a guitar, and he kinda pulled Aimee and I aside and he played it for us, and he said “I don’t know, I think this would just be a kind of cool thing for you.” And he played it for us and we said “Yes! We love it!” So we took that riff home and we built the song around it. Tim (Armstrong) produced it and recorded it, and the whole time I was thinking “I can’t wait to get this back to Billie Joe, I want to do right by him.” I wanted him to be proud, because he thought enough of us to give us this riff that he could have obviously turned into an amazing song for any one of his bands. We sent the song back to him right when we were done with it, and he texted us back that night and he was so excited about it and happy to be a part of it. It’s so surreal, too, to have a song with a riff written by Billie Joe Armstrong and produced by Tim Armstrong…
