What does Green Day do during the day while touring?

I didn't see another post like this, but I may may have missed it so feel free to take it down if it's irrelevant.

I've always wondered this. What do the boys do during any given day while they are on tour? They go all over the world, it's got to be interesting. Performing in the evening means that they have the day to fill before a show. So what do they do? Do they just hang out? Do they explore? Sleep? I've kind of imagined them exploring whatever city they're in and just kind of chilling. It'd be so cool to run into them randomly on the street when they're in town!

What do you all think?

“Dirnt: It's hard to say when a tour day starts because you have to start with the after-show the night before. You finish a show, drive five hours on a bus on roads that suck, because all our tax dollars are going to stupid shit, so you get no sleep. Last night I didn't get to bed until six in the morning and I woke up at noon. Then I started stretching out. You shave and do whatever shit you have to do, then you check out the venue and do a soundcheck. We always try to get one in so we know everything is going to sound good. Then we have a small bite to eat, more stretching, more working out and then get in a little bit of high jinks.”

They will have off-days built into their tour schedule and during those they’ll often do some sightseeing; fans have been known to run into the band/their families out and about. Other than that, there’s not a great deal of time to relax or explore.

Your account is completely accurate. I know firsthand that sleeping into the early afternoon is quite normal. When I was lucky enough to see the machine in motion this is what I experienced, I met them at the arena at 3:30pm and they had just woken up! You put it perfectly...after packup, hitting the road, etc. it's quite normal for them to maybe rest a bit on the bus from 2-6am and then finally check into the next hotel, then its sleep until noon or early afternoon, shake off the tiredness, and soundcheck at 4pm. On back to back nights there's not much sightseeing. When I met them they had just woken up and it was about 3pm eastern. On days off I'm sure they get out and explore a little and if possible they plan the days off for the cities where they know people, etc

From what I’ve heard, they are big into golf and fine dining.

I legit don't know if you're joking or not, but this is actually true  (Tre's very into golf and pretty sure they're all into good food especially Mike and Tre). Perhaps not so much specifically during a day touring though.

They definitely like to go and explore cities - many fans I know (including me lol) purposefully went out into the popular circles of the city a day before or after a concert to see if they could meet them by chance. They also go into shops (I saw pictures on Instagram from some alternative boutiques that Billie has visited) or art exhibits. (They went to a David Bowie exhibit in London in 2013, I know because I nearly missed them). And when they were in Frankfurt, they took a boat trip along the river.

I've read somewhere that they always bring books to read. So they probably do some recreational reading when they have downtimes in the evening.

When they were here in Pittsburgh Billie took a visit to the Andy Warhol museum and Tre sampled the local food at Primanti Brothers.

Sleep, dude. Imagine that you just got out of a concert for 45 thousand people, full of adrenaline and makes savage love with your companion.
They must sleep for 16 hours straight.

One thing we know from In China With Green Day is they play Scrabble. And aren't as good at it as Aaron Cometbus :D

I wonder if they've ever done anything in Seattle. That's what made me think of this. Haha! Like going to the Pike Place Market and seeing the first Starbucks or getting startled by the monkfish on a hidden stick that the workers make lunge at people who go to look at it.  Or checking out the Space Needle or Seattle Art Museum. Man, it'd be so cool to know!
