The Longshot Vs Green Day

Would you rather have another leg of The Longshot touring, with dates outside North America, or have Billie go straight back into the the studio with Green Day to record material for a new album cycle?  And why?

While I’d love a UK Longshot tour over the summer, I’m also incredibly impatient when it comes to waiting for new Green Day music - so I’d like both to happen before the end of the year with an early 2019 release for the next GD album.  Unfortunately, it’s the band who get the say in what happens, and not me, so knowing my luck we won’t get another Longshot tour or a new album cycle!

Deffo Longshot. I like it better than anything Green Day have done in a million years.

Unless Billie indicates so after the last 3/4 dates of The Longshot Tour, I don't think the Longshot is just over yet. Granted, I'm saying this just because the Longshot IG description is "Love is for Losers album is out now!! And other tricks up my sleeve!"

But I'm selfish, I want GD back next year, I miss being on tour.  I'll be at ease knowing they're back in the studio, I wouldn't want them to rush everything but I don't think it'll be a American Idiot - 21CB wait (4 years from the end of the AI Tour to the start of 21CB Promo). I think it'll be a 2019 release with a 2020 tour. (Which is really weird to type that year out)

I like the longshot, I had an amazing time seeing them live and I would totally go see them again if I got the chance. I'd like more green day though, but I could see Billie riding this out for the rest of the year, which is understandable, it's a good project that deserves attention! Maybe he  has a few Green Day songs penned already but maybe not, no one knows! I think fall of 2019 is the earliest we will see a new Green Day album, but I'm not getting my hopes up, I think 2020 is more likely. Even if Green Day starts jamming when Billie is done with this tour, it could still be a while, Revrad took a couple years to even write

I'm kinda over the Longshot by now. The only way I'd want it to continue is if they played a show that there was actually a chance I could get to (which is unlikely because I live in a shitty part of England that nobody decent ever comes to and travelling for a show would be difficult for me atm).

With that said, I'm also not looking forward to the period of quiet between the end of the Longshot tour and the next GD album (or whatever else they have planned). So personally, I want a GD album asap.:)

Why not both? :happyhands: What you described in the OP would be the ideal scenario. I think Billie isn't done with Longshot (and might revisit it in the future) because he seems to be enjoying it so much, and I'm happy about that.

But as much as I enjoy the new songs and would love to go to a Longshot show, I can't wait to be able to see Green Day again, so I'm a bit conflicted. I'd like them to be back soon, but my not so optimistic guess for the next album and tour is probably sometime in 2020. We can never be sure what kind of tricks Billie's got up his sleeve though, so I'm ready to be surprised :P

I can envision Longshot being Billie's new Pinhead Gunpowder, a band he can call upon between albums/downtime.

Why not have both ? - Green Day go back on tour and The Longshot open for them ... problem solved !!!!

Love is For Losers isn't better than any GD album except for the pre-Dookie ones imo. So, as long as the next GD album doesn't suck (which I doubt it will), I'd prefer to see another GD album before another Longshot album. Don't get me wrong, The Longshot isn't a bad project and it has some great songs but I'm kind of over it. Plus Foxboro is much better! I'd be fine seeing them do it between albums every few years but I'd rather it not delay the next album drastically.

I want new Green Dayz

More Longshot! There's plenty of time for Green Day, and that's always such a big operation with the promotion and touring etc that I'm sure they could all do with a break from it in between. Bit of rest and a bit of side projects like the Longshot to get inspired is the perfect way to prepare for the next Green Day album. Seems like more of an alternative to a holiday/something to keep Billie occupied than something that's holding GD stuff up anyway, they'd probably all just have a long break otherwise. It's such a rare treat to get a side project like this with tiny shows and all the other fun that comes with it, I hope it carries on as long as possible (preferably with some European shows :P)

I love FBHT more than anything but with the retro feel of Love is for Losers and these fabulous vibrant small shows the Longshot is almost on the same level for me. I think it's the closest we'll get to it.

As always, I can't wait to hear the next Green Day album, but that being said:

1. The Longshot club shows look incredibly fun and I've always wanted to see GD / Foxboro HT in a smallish venue, so seeing The Longshot live somewhere in Europe (I'd travel to England in a heartbeat for some Brixtonesque show lol) would be the next best thing.

2. Quality over quantity is somewhat important to me after the trilogy. I don't hate those albums, but I do think a good record generally takes time and I'm more than willing to give them all the time and relaxation in the world produce their albums. Plus, Billie seems like he's having the time of his life right now and that can only be a good think for future records, be it for Green Day or The Longshot...

Longshot in Europe or GTFO

Definitely super into Longshot right now and would love for another US/Canada leg!

Definitely continue with the Longshot. Makes me sound like a bad GD fan, but as long as Billie is releasing music, I don't care what name it's under/who it's with. And there will always be GD, whereas who knows if we'll ever see the Longshot again. And there needs to be a Midwest tour.

I love The Longshot MORE MORE MORE

Allright, here's an unpopular opinion: I don't really care for the Longshot. Don't get me wrong, their music is perfectly fine, but I just don't think it's better than any Green Day release. I think RevRad was a great album, much better than the trilogy, and I'd rather have a good GD album than a side project that is just ok (which is how I feel about the Longshot).

That beeing said, I don't expect any new material from Green Day until late 2019 (and even that would surprise me). So I wouldn't mind if Billie Joe continues playing shows with the Longshot, but I think I'll always prefer Green Day over any side project.

I always want new Green Day, that'll never change. Having said that, I had more fun seeing The Longshot in Pawtucket last week then I have at a Green Day showing a very long time. It was just so intimate; it gave me feelings of nostalgia from GD shows in the 90's. Plus selfishly, I would like to see another Longshot show, as they didn't hang around to meet with fans afterward. So another chance at that would make me a very happy monkey.

Anything but in Europe, pls

I dunno. I'm not crazy over The Longshot, but I would love to go to one their shows, so I wouldn't be mad if they announced more dates.

But more Green Day is always better imo.

I may be biased bc my post gig depression is hitting hard right now, but, even with questionable conditions at some shows (lookin at you Philly), and the stress of waiting in line with some shitty fans cutting, that was some of the most fun I've had at a show in a long time. I've never gone to 6 shows (almost) in a row by a band and not been sick of them after until now.  And it felt so good to be that close to Billie and feel really part of the show and connected to the band. The distance at GD shows now is gonna be such a drag. And I love the songs more and more. Not to mention the on stage dynamic. Sorry Mike, but Billie and Kevin interacting is more entertaining at this point because they seem to be having more fun.

I hope Billie is writing for GD or starts to soon, so that they can quickly get going on an album maybe at the end of this year for a mid 2019 release, but I really hope he keeps the longshot going for a while. I hope they go to europe for all of you guys there, and then come back and do one more North American run. I just can't get over how much fun this was.

The mere existence of this thread and most of its contents is incredibly upsetting.

This.  I didn't have post gig depression with Green Day, because I know there will always be more.  Whereas who knows if we'll ever see the Longshot again.  I'm already depressed thinking we might not get anymore shows.  It's one of those blessings in disguise that half of the shows had to be postponed because it'd be all over by now otherwise.

I think it was the surprise of this release and the club dates that make the Longshot so exciting I don’t miss Green Day yet. We didn’t expect so much new music in April 2018, let alone another tour.  We thought they’d be holed up in a studio.  The only part that makes me sad is seeing Mike and Tre on the sidelines with not much to do and certainly nothing that compares to the kind of fun that Billie is having.  I want to see the old gang back together.

But really whatever energizes him and makes him happy is good.  I love The Longshot material and I know I’ll love whatever comes next for Green Day (which will probably happen later in the year with a 2019 release).

FBHT carried on with shows from 2008-2014, so The Longshot can certainly continue as a side gig for many years until a new side project takes its place.  There will always be side bands and special club shows.
