Christian's Inferno! Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 So I thought I would make a poll asking what your favourite decade of Green Day music has been? I realize that the 2010's aren't over yet and there's a good chance of them releasing something else before 2020, but I just thought this would be a fun discussion to have 89/90's: Sweet Children, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod The 00's: Warning, Money Money 2020, American Idiot, Stop Drop & Roll!!!, 21st Century Breakdown The 10's: Uno, Dos, Tré, Demolicious, Revolution Radio, The Longshot Also, I tried making a poll for this but for some reason it won't let me so just comment your favourite decade My favourite decade is the 00's because 21st Century Breakdown is my favourite album of all time, American Idiot is my 2nd favourite and Warning is my 4th favourite Green Day album. Stop Drop and Roll is also an amazing album and while I don't really care for The Network, they are a really interesting project that you wouldn't expect from Green Day. While I also love a lot of GD's 90's and 2010's material, their 00's material is the best imo
Q-Man Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 The 2000s, in my opinion, is when Green Day really solidified themselves as one of the biggest and best rock bands of all time. They've been incredible since the very early 90s but the 2000s is when we really saw them take it to a new level. Everything from the songwriting to the live shows vastly improved in the mid-2000s. 21st Century Breakdown is still one of my top 3 albums of all time (maybe even number 1), and American Idiot is it's own animal entirely, everything from massive chart success, to huge shows, to a broadway musical, and a (possible) movie all from one timeless masterpiece. What they accomplished in the 2000s is something that a vast majority of musicians never will.
pouty bitch Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 If we're basing it solely on music, I'd have to go 90s because my top 3 albums are Nimrod, Insomniac and Kerplunk.
Chin for a Day Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Hands down, no comparison, 00's. That is where they started to mature musically and composition wise. They accomplished so much in that decade, more so than any other decade. From a politically themed album that was one of the biggest of the decade to branching out via side projects, a broadway musical and even some acting. They really grew as a band and as people.

I do wanna say that even though their early angsty material is my favorite, I'm glad that Billie's in a much happier place now and is over the whole drinking and drugs thing
Montclare Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 I can't pick. My top three albums of theirs are each from a different decade (RevRad, AI, and Nimrod). My favorite side project is the FBHT, but I'm loving the Longshot as well and am happy to watch Billie experience all of this while he's healthy and happy.
localinsomniac Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Attitude, aesthetic, and the music. If I'm basing it on those three criteria, it's 90s across the board.
Guest Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 The 90's! I wish I could live to see the Dookie era and watching Longview premiere on MTV for the first time but oh well, it would have been nice to see how that generation brought about the next. I wonder if they use tape cassettes at the time lol
god61 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Good poll question! If we focus on just Green Day music, I go 90s all the way, and not just for nostalgia's sake. Been a fan since Dookie, and dug up Kerplunk and 1039 and enjoyed them even more. Insomniac is my favorite album and Nimrod was solid. Looking at including the side projects though, I have to lean 00s. Warning is horribly underated for its musical experimentation which ultimately led to the band being emboldened enough to make AI and 21st. Throw in Money Money and FBHT which were both solid side projects and I think it was their best and most creative era by far.
Guest Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 I'm SO torn between the 90s and 2000s.. I absolutely adore Insomniac and Nimrod but on the other hand my all time favourite album that seriously changed my life is American Idiot and I love Warning. So I'll have to go with 2000 I guess for personal reasons.
duckez Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 The 90's. Dookie, Nimrod, and Insomniac are the best! But I like it all of course.
That Dude Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 if I had to pick between those three, I'd go with the 00s I suppose. But my personal favorite 10 years would be 1997-2007. Nimrod started this crazy ride for me, Warning solidified their place in my all time favorites and American Idiot took my excitement of Rock N Roll which was at 10, and cranked it up to 25. So that covers 1997-2004. I saw them live in 2005, so THAT was a good year. 2006 and 2007 saw them releasing what are my favorite cover songs of all time, hands down. "The Saints are Coming" and "Working Class Hero".....I wish there would have been more from that era. Billie Joe in his black and white scarf and denim outfits. A full on 2006 or 2007 album would have been epic judging from those covers!
Insomniac1984 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I love the 90s from 94 to 98 specially, however Warning is my top 2 in my favorite Green Day albums of all time. I have a special feeling for Warning, it was the first Green Day album I've waited to be released. The gigs, Tv shows and everything concerned to that 2000-2001 era is pure gold for me. So, I choose the 90s and the beggining of 2000's.
_Mace_ Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Probably the 2000's. We got Warning, Shenanigans, AI and 21CB. All pretty damn good albums to me, particularly Warning.
greendepent Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 The '00 by far. Those years were when the band got their iconic status. Nuff said.
龑美優 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 This decade is my favorite overall because I get to enjoy all of the music they've released in the past along with their recent stuff. They haven't released an album I don't love. I suppose it might just depend on my mood and feelings, plus where I am at in life, as to which decade I spend the most time frequenting. I absolutely loved seeing them live on the 21CBD tour, though. That was amazing. It just felt particularly special. It was a great place and time for me emotionally.
Jollyroger118 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 I'd have to go with 2000's, I love all their albums but Warning was just so mature and then obviously you got AI and 21st which is enough said. Also I feel like they were in their prime live during the AI tour and especially 21st.
IcyMoffatt Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I've been searching for days what to answer to this topic. All 3 decades have ups and downs. All 3 of them were so different. And all 3 represented, from a personal point of view, 3 decades of my life. I'm as old as GD (not as the members, but I'm talking about the existence of the band). After reflections, I think I will go with the 2000s. The first decade represents the fast rise and the nearly fall of GD. Dookie is one iconic album. The following albums were good, but not as strong. I didn't get the chance to appreciate enough of the 1990s. I was a kid, I didn't understand english and I had no clue who/what was GD. I had no Internet nor cable tv at home back then. I didn't even know what they looked like. I only remember that their songs where all over the radio and that I liked them. The 2000s, they started with what is considered a weak album (personally, I love Warning, my first GD album of my collection). Then, 2 side projects and 2 very strong albums later, GD was a very massive act. Some people hate the fact that GD will never tour small venues again because of this era and also because many people are fans only since American Idiot. But I think it's this decade that helped the band to experience a lot artistically. It was the first decade that I could completely enjoy. It was my teenage years and the beginning of my adulthood. And what top it all was my first GD concert in 2010. Then, the 2010s, only the last half of the decade is good. GD hit a wall in 2012. No need to go over this period again. In the case of the RevRad period and the Longshot, they are both very good and I'm very happy to have get the chance to see 3 concerts. The only problem with this last half of the decade is that the radio stations and other medias didn't care anymore about GD. Well, I don't know if it was the case elsewhere, but in my hometown, only 2 radio stations played the singles from RevRad (one more than the other). The other ones were not even allowed to say GD had a new album out everytime they were playing a song from GD (all from before the trilogy). Most people I was talking to about GD didn't even know the band still existed after 21st Century Breakdown. The trilogy did some damages to the band and they lost the respect of many medias.
The Bellie Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 The 2010s: The trilogy and RevRad (my favorite music of them, knowing that I find all the previous stuff to be also killer good), Billie making the grandest step of his life by getting over his addictions and Green Day making, in their own words, and to my eyes as well, their best tour last year. And The Longshot is also killer good even if it's not GD
gaslight13 Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Much as I wanna pick the 00s, I'm really excited about the roll Billie's on with songwriting and how strong the Rev Rad tour was with all of them. It's also so wonderful to see Billie sober and happy. I'm really optimistic about the next couple years too.
