DeJennsitized Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 I think Green Day would be perfect for the Super Bowl. It’s always a brilliant celebration of an artist’s career and they’d pull it out of the bag. As for having Lady Gaga as a special guest...I’d be freaking out because it’d be fucking amazing! Oh no, I’ve ruined Eric’s image of GDC Though I suspect they would bring out Joan Jett, or maybe Miranda Lambert.

Chin for a Day Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 If they weren't invited last year when the super bowl was in Oakland there is probably little chance they will be invited. Plus rock is not very popular anymore and they usually look for more popular acts. However I so think they would be great as a super bowl half time show and they would be awesome with lady gaga

Sanity Loan Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 They would be good entertainment but they'd be picky about what they were and weren't allowed to do, I'm guessing. A lot of the acts in the past few years are playing a medley of their songs and not the full things; I don't think the band would do that. So, they'd have what, 15 minutes to play? That would cover maybe 3 or 4 songs. With such a small amount of time, those songs would be: American Idiot Know Your Enemy When I Come Around Basket Case These are definitely mainstream crowd pleasers (songs people know). I was inclined to list "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" but that's too low-key for a high-energy, short performance. I'd love to see them do it before they call it quits. The OP is right in saying that the list of long-time, well-known artists/bands that haven't performed is getting short. 4 hours ago, Jane Lannister said: No I don't think so 1 hour ago, Clayish said: No Insightful. BucksCoEric Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I have a hard time believing Green Day will get selected to play at a super bowl. I hope I'm wrong about that, but it feels like a large part of the general public views green day as a "theyre still around?" kind of band. Also considering the fact that rock as a whole isn't as popular as it was when american idiot came out, it feels even less likely. It sucks. It would've been amazing to see them play at the super bowl this year when the Eagles won it. Spoiler #FlyEaglesFly

The Great Saiyaman Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Yeah I think they'd be awesome. Especially if they played for my Vikings.
BucksCoEric Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 For what its worth heres a list of the last 17 super bowl performers: 2018: Justin Timberlake 2017: Lady Gaga 2016: Coldplay, Beyonce, Bruno Mars 2015: Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott 2014: Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers 2013: Beyonce 2012: Madonna 2011: The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash 2010: The Who 2009: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 2008: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 2007: Prince and the Florida A&M marching band 2006: The Rolling Stones 2005: Paul McCartney 2004: Janet Jackson, Kid Rock, P. Diddy, Nelly and Justin Timberlake 2003: Shania Twain, No Doubt and Sting 2002: U2 After seeing all these names, its clear they do invite rock bands to perform like the who and the rolling stones. Though its mostly just rock bands from decades ago. Who knows maybe in 20 years if green day is considered "classic rock" maybe they'll get an invite. Spoiler Go birds
greendepent Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I can see it happening. A setlist would be with Know Your Enemy, Basket case, when I come around and boulevard of broken dreams.
Joe. Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 It's possible and would be great; but I think if they wanted a rock band there, someone like Foo Fighters would be booked ahead of Green Day
Mar Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I don't see why not, yet on the other hand, I don't ever see it happening amid the death of rock in popular American music. It doesn't appeal to a wide enough base in its current form. If this were 2005-09 or so, immediate post-Nipplegate, when they tapped ~old~ rock acts who could be considered less likely to do stunts like that, I would say it was possible. But GD was still really relevant in those years for the most part, so they got passed over, and now the NFL has decided that they need relatively current acts to get young people watching. Unless they can get another BOBD-level hit again and/or the NFL goes back to the legacy act model, I doubt it.
Billie Joes Eyelids Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I’m uncomfortable with the idea. I’m uncomfortable with super bowl halftimes. The choreographed fake audience and the over-the-top production is just not what Green Day is aboout. 18 hours ago, E X H A U S T E D said: Yeah, Red Hot Chili Peppers did it a few years ago and they're less entertaining live than Green Day but they were still pretty great. Plus they are as mainstream as GD. If my memory serves me right, RHCP jumped on stage with Bruno Mars for a few minutes and it was awkward. It was like some drunk people made their way on stage. And I love RHCP. Some rock bands just aren’t a good fit for the super bowl halftime.

Ok, they get pretty into over the top with performances sometimes. They like simple and theatrical, depending on the setting, and the actual setlist, too. And I wasn't aware the crowd reactions were fake? I think a lot of people get genuinely excited for halftime shows; it's a pretty small percentage of staged audience members. 47 minutes ago, neverdone2000 said: If my memory serves me right, RHCP jumped on stage with Bruno Mars for a few minutes and it was awkward. But then again, I was 11 or 12. So they could've sucked. Nevermind I was 10.
