Seems to be BJ's voice on the new song released for Shinoda yesterday. Starts in 1:36:

"you know"...

Oh wow, thanks for sharing! I've been listening to the EP and I felt like I knew the voice but didn't recognize him

It does sound like him  It's so nice that he called, I never saw any connection between Green Day and Linkin Park to be honest, except for the fact that they were two of my favorite bands. It's just a nice gesture that he thought of giving his condolences personally instead of just social media, considering (at least I think so) that they didn't really interact otherwise.

I really like that song too.

i just checked, you're right. i just always assumed it was in passing at award shows or something. oh well, it doesn't really matter anyway.

Pretty sure it is. Wonder if the “Mark” is Mark Hoppus.

Man, that hits hard. Great song. Really show how great Billie is and I felt really connected to Mike in a way. I'm still not over Chester's death. Just miss that guy so much.

Sounds like him to me. Do you just not think it sounds like him or is there other info that indicates it isn't him or is someone else?

The "y'know" should have been a dead giveaway that it's him

That is him.

If it is him, he has Mike S’s phone # and doesn’t say “this is Billie Joe” unless it was edited out. Which would mean they’re fairly close, which surprises me since he said he only met Chester twice.

I have no idea how I didn't notice this when I heard the song, but yeah, I am about 99% sure that's him, the other 1% being that its a VERY good impersonator.

Regardless, as mentioned previously the "y'know" and the "uhhhh"s are really in his unique style so it's implied that its him, that being said though, these messages were not jokes and the incident was very serious, so I don't know why someone would want to imply or impersonate Billie Joe.

TLDR: Yes, it's him.

Interesting piece of overlap- their tour manager Mike Amato was also a tour manager for LP a few years ago.  Mike is an outstanding person (someone we'd all feel privileged to call a friend and would do anything for) and I've truly been heartbroken for him about this.

That totally sounds like Billie.

You can be friends with someone or know someone and not know their friends etc

Thought it sounded like Billie at first listen, then not so much on second.  Now listened on better headphones and I think it could be him.  @WhiteTim is right, just because Billie said at the time of Chester's death that he didn't know him well, doesn't mean he wouldn't phone with his condolences, they are label mates after all and you only get a snipped of the conversation so who knows what he said first.  Also, I don't see any question of it being an impersonator, not aware anyone bar us is saying it is Billie?

That would explain the connection a little better and how he would have his contact info even if they weren’t close friends.
