"Stolen"... right....

Yeah. I never quite believed that myself. More like conveniently misplaced.

Not even misplaced, thrown under the bus

I still believe C&V was a fabricated story to serve as a scapegoat for the band should American Idiot fail. If AI was well-received (which it was), they could use this Cigs and Val mythos to be a turning point story where they said "Screw this" and went all out after realizing they had more potential. If AI ended up getting panned, they could say, "Well we had all this great 90s Green Day stuff ready to go and we lost it, so you got AI instead." It's a great marketing tactic either way. I mean look how obsessed the fans are with this lost album. Adds a lot of mythos to the band.

I don’t think they thought it through to that extent. It could have been more of a case where you were in deep with this album but knew you didn’t like it. After spending all that money and time, how do you tell the record label you want to scrap it and start all over? I think the story was an out that allowed them to rework half the songs into the Network side project, clear their heads and start with a clean slate without pissing off the powers that be.

Plus from a practical standpoint, anything they record belongs to the label, so if they didn’t want Warners to just take the songs/album and release them anyway, they had to “make them disappear.”

I hope Billie will tell us the true story about the C&V mystery one day in the far future when he writes his memoirs :)

I’m guessing it would have to be long after their relationship with Warners/reprise is over and it doesn’t matter anymore. But I agree I would love to get the real story someday.

Jesus, he could have really eased up on the volume during the songs or at least talk a little louder, my speakers almost killed me :D Also it's "don't want a nation under the new mania" and not "media", unless I've missed something really important :P

Haven't finished watching the video yet but the nitpicker inside me needed to throw that out there

Edit: Finished watching it now, and I really like this guy's interpretation and his view on the album. :) GOD, American Idiot is so fucking good. Thanks for reminding me.

According to the lyric book in the front of my AI cd, it is in fact media, not maina. Now you get a whole new perspective, which is kinda cool, though!

Ok, so this is my song book:

Now, I generally trust this because: 20180126_180017.jpg

Says Brads, right? A lot of people mistake this for 'dads', so I use this indicator as my fail-safe. This is the source I checked when I said media, not maina. So, I went to my lyric book:

IT SAYS MAINIA!!!!! so, I went to my dad. He insisted that it's media. When I said "look in the cd booklet" he responded with "Well, one of these sources is wrong. I'm betting on the cd book. If you ever speak to Billie Joe, ask him." Yeah, lol. Still a 'concert virgin'. Anyway, I took to the Web:

This is google lyrics

Screenshot_2018-01-26-17-55-22.pngthis is genius lyrics. I really trust genius, so I'm going to say you're right. Be because of this one word difference, the song could be interpreted in two totally different ways. I'm confused.

@Gloria Killjoy it also says Brads in the lyric books, so I would trust the lyric book. :) I know there are a few mistakes here and there in the RevRad lyric book but this one was made by somebody else and I don't think there are any other mistakes in the AI lyric books? :ermm:

Nvm don't trust genius anymore; LOOK AT THIS!!!!!! Screenshot_2018-01-26-17-55-22.png

IT SAYS ALIEN NATION. TWO SEPARATE WORDS. LOOK AT THE LYRIC BOOK AGAIN:20180126_174707.jpg

NOW IT IS ONE WORD!!!!! WH IS RIGHT??? WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END?????

The real question, what word does Billie actually use when he sings it? Can anyone pop on some headphones and listen? I’d trust that.

I don't think so... I'm just hell confused, to be honest.

I canNOT believe it's mania. Like, it makes so much more sense than media but STILL I THOUGHT IT WAS MEDIA

What?! It's not Media?!:runaround: Well, fuck.

I always heard Media, especially in this:

I'm just gonna keep pretending that it is Media. It makes so much more sense to me that way.
