_Mace_ Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 So I don't actually have a favorite Green Day song. I love all of their songs except for, like, five. But for the life of me, I can't pick my favorite! For those of you with decision making skills, what is your favorite song? Why? Did something life changing happen while you were listening to it, did a revelation come to you, or did you connect with it emotionally? I'm super curious as to what people's opinions will be, it's such a person by persons variety, based on so many personal and environmental factors. So, what's your favorite GD song? (Or if you really can't pick, album?)
pouty bitch Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 At the moment, it's Bang Bang without a doubt. I don't have any kind of emotional connection to it and I don't really relate to it, but I just think it's a perfect song. It gets even better the more I listen to it too. I love absolutely everything about it. I think the intro is really exciting, Billie's vocals are on point, and I absolutely LOVE Tre's drum solo. I just can't fault it at all, it's flawless to me. Generally, I tend to prefer the fast/loud/angry GD songs over the slower/quieter/calmer ones, so Bang Bang fits that perfectly. And it sounds amazing live too. Also, I only became a Green Day fan in July 2016, so Bang Bang was the first song they released in my time as a fan. Because of this, I see Bang Bang as sorta my introduction to GD, even though it wasn't the first song GD song I'd ever heard. And although my favourite GD song does change quite frequently, Bang Bang has been in my top 3 for months. So yeah, Bang Bang is my fave.
AimieeSmith Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I'm a huge AI fan i was at school when it came out back in 04 and that's when i started listening to this amazing band !. I really like Give Me Novacaine and Whatshername from AI their such underrated song's from the album. Some of my favorite lyric's are from Novacaine -"'ll tell you what! Drain the pressure from the swelling The sensations overwhelming Give me a long kiss goodnight.." - so powerful and really make you think about life in a weird king of way .
Chin for a Day Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I can't pick a favorite song, but there are quite a few that are up there. When I Come Around - you really just cannot beat that bass line. The best GD bass line of all time. I have often listened to just the intro over and over again. Church on Sunday - Quite possibly the most real and best love song ever written. The lyrics are absolutely brilliant, the way Billie moves between him and her is astonishing. A relationship is hard work and the good ones are worth working for. Billie nailed that in this song Whatsername - Such an amazingly powerful song. I think it is Billie's best vocal performance ever, he truly nails the emotions Last of the American Girls - Personally, if I were Adrienne, this is the song that would make me melt. Forget the sappy shit like When It's Time, in LOTAG he talks about all her quirkiness and eccentricities and how it all works. He loves her no matter what. To me, this song is truly written from the heart. 21 Guns - I know alot of people don't like this, but I love it. It is an amazing anthem, I love Billie's voice on it and it just makes me want to get up and stomp my feet and sing. Brutal Love - By far, the best song from the Trilogy. Similar to whatsername, the power of the song amazes me. It is another song that I just don't hear the emotions, I feel them Forever Now - Quite simply the best live song in their catalog (possibly anyones catalog). I've seen it twice in concert and it was epic both times. Still Breathing - It is always there when I need it. It helps me get through some hard situations, whenever I need it. I feel like Billie let us into his soul with this song. I think it is the most honest song Billie has ever written
Christian's Inferno! Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I think Restless Heart Syndrome. It's just a great song to me and very underrated
Zebahar Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I am sure I am not the only one, but my favorite song changes from time to time. Right now, I am really into Peacemaker. I love all of the layers to that song, especially the orchestra in the background. It feels almost cinematic to me, and it is an epic song in my opinion.
The Bellie Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 My absolute favorite song is Still Breathing, it's the only thing I'm certain about when it comes to ranking the songs... as for the others songs, I usually have my constant favorites among each album, but there are also certain songs I get very deep into during a period which can vary a lot... and sometimes it just lasts and the ranking of the song climbs up. Most recently it was the case of Ordinary World, I've listened to several live performances of it and I was astonished by the beauty of it. The sound of Billie's guitar, the words, his tone... Before that, I'd gotten into a Back In The USA period, which I've listened to non-stop during 2 weeks I think, and before it was Armatage Shanks, which I got into after watching a live performance of it from the San Diego gig in last September, and which also got me into Insomniac, pretty quickly and efficiently (today Insomniac is the only album, with Uno, that puts me in a very enthusiastic mood right away, don't ask me why ). Plus, I'd say that there are 3 groups of songs that make my bunch of favorites ; among my best examples of each of them I give below, here are also my approximate top 10 GD songs: 1) the songs I mostly love for their live version(s) : Still Breathing (#1) is one of them, Forever Now (#2) and Ordinary World from RevRad, Christie Road from Kerplunk; Jesus of Suburbia and Boulevard Of Broken Dreams from AI; 2) the ones I principally love for their album version, and which are songs that have never, or quite few been played live : Panic Song from Insomniac; Hold On from Warning; Restless Heart Syndrome (#5) and See The Light from 21st CB (#10); Lazy Bones (#7) from Dos; Walk Away (#4) from Tre, Somewhere Now, Outlaws and Troubled Times from RevRad; 3) the ones that I've first loved for their album version, while they have also been consistently played live, but that hasn't really changed my feeling about them : She from Dookie; Give Me Novacaine and Extraordinary Girl (#9) from AI; 21 Guns from 21st CB; When It's Time (#6) (which I don't associate with sappy shit @Grubby Poop... while I may get what makes you say that); Stay The Night (#3) from Uno; Brutal Love, 99 Revolutions and The Forgotten (#8) from Tre; Bang Bang from RevRad (on a side note, Bang Bang does not reach my 10 favorite songs for now, but being currently learning to play it on guitar is the most exhilarating thing I've ever experienced. It never fails to give me uncontrollable laughter, even when I constantly mess it up because of the speed ).
AmyxLongview Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I've always had the same top 3, which is Letterbomb, Waiting, and She. Those 3 are my absolute faves but I can't really narrow it down any further. Those songs are super sentimental to me.
1039Revolutions Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 1039 - I Was There Kerplunk - No One Knows Dookie - When I Come Around (#7) Insomniac - Armatash Shanks (#8) Nimrod - Scattered (#10) Warning - Church On Sunday (#3) Waiting (#9) American Idiot - St. Jimmy 21CB - Last Night On Earth (#6) Uno - Stay The Night (#1) Oh Love (#4) Dos - Stray Heart (#5) Tre - X - Kid (#2) RevRad - Bouncing Off The Walls
PeculiarName Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 It's super hard for me to pick just one of my favourite Green Day songs as well but if I did I would say my favourite is 'Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?'. Billie mentioned during the Awesome as F**K tour that this was his favourite song from Kerplunk.
DeJennsitized Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 My default favourite song is Holiday, because that was the song that made me want to go and find more songs by this band. It's funny because I was 12 when it just started making the rounds on the music video channels, and because the internet wasn't quite the massive source it is now (I think Youtube only launched that year), I sat there every morning before school waiting for it to come on (and during this time BOBD would be every other song and although I liked it, I wanted Holiday!) Then eventually I got a new phone, the first Motorola with built in iTunes, and I bought Holiday and literally listened to it for weeks on repeat. Then my mum bought me American Idiot and BIAB and the rest is history. 15 hours ago, Grubby Poop said: When I Come Around - you really just cannot beat that bass line. I was just going to mention WTP. It's not my favorite, but the bridge is fantastic. It's just the perfect example of guitar, bass, and drums working together. It's an example of a song that I listened to a million times, and on the millionth and one listen, something new just clicked.
Guest Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 My favorite song is Wake Me Up When September Ends. It's beautifully written and just a perfect ballad. I also think the music video is one of the best Green Day has ever done

I really have to agree that I love Lazybones, Armatage Shanks, and Restless Heart Syndrome. Those three are really, really, really underrated and totally deserve to be played live. Most of Insomniac is pretty underrated, I think.

Sometimes I'd like to be able to feel what you feel the 1st time your hear THAT band. I wish I could fall in love with Green Day every single time I put back their records on the CD player. I mean, I love them, of course but, you know, THAT 1st time, it's different... I feel the same about movies, wich I'm pretty obsessed with. Luckly they're longer than songs so... sometimes you can experience different emotions (or notice different lil' details) at every ''new'' view, eheh! It happens, for sure, with songs and albums too but that's another story
_Mace_ Posted March 3, 2018 Author Posted March 3, 2018 Been really into Walking Alone lately. I feel like Billie really gets me
Gearheart Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Jesus of Suburbia is & always will be my favorite Green Day song. It's got everything I love about Green Day summed up into one epic song that flies by before you know it, even though its 9 minutes long. Thats a hard accomplishment to do in my opinion, to keep a 9 minute song interesting. Most 5 minute songs get boring! Plus a nostalgia factor adds into it for me as well. Great memories pop into my head whenever i hear it.

Still Breathing will definitely always be my favorite, provided that Billie won't write in the future something I love more. But Still breathing LIVE. It's the one song I'll really be sad if they don't play it anymore live. I tend to love a lot many Green Day successively songs but some remain more special than others: Lazy Bones, Walk Away, Restless Heart Syndrome... Troubled Times. It was amazing to know that Billie wrote that notably in relation to the Bataclan attack in Paris. 😢 21 Guns. "Does the pain weigh out the pride? Did someone break your heart inside?" These must be among the most painful lyrics that I (and I guess mostly everyone) relate to the most. And among the bravest written by Billie. I've always loved 99 Revolutions, there's something in it that just lifts me up and transport me elsewhere... it's one of the songs that plunges me in a familiar atmosphere, like an old memory or something I've always known. It's hard to explain. And it's joyful, and the lyrics are great. Simple but to think about, like the 99 percent thing. I was listening to the end of a live performance of Chasing a Ghost and what Billie does at the end totally reminds me of what he did in the 2012 Irving Plaza performance of 99 Revolutions, repeating the ending several times between short silences. There's something in the melodies of both songs that's really lighting up and he doesn't want to let go of it. After a few times listening to that ending (in the live version) of Chasing a Ghost, I got wrapped in it and it felt the same kind of special way as when listening to 99 Rev. Now whenever I think of Chasing a Ghost it has this special feeling popping up, really like I see a place I know from when I was a kid and I feel something liberating. Green Day (and The Longshot but when I say Green Day, I think of what Billie writes in general) is really like a therapy. It make you reconnect with stuff in yourself you've forgotten, and think about it while you're not feeling alone anymore. I don't know, maybe that happens for other people with other songs from other bands, but with me it totally happens with Green Day songs and I can't think of anything that comes near it.
