Todd Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 1-2-3-4 Go! Records is selling the leftover stock of Recess Records' 2009 Pinhead Gunpowder represses at great prices. $13 for vinyl records and $8 for CDs. The Kick Over the Traces colored vinyl are currently listed for $36 on Discogs, so this is a really good deal for them. Grab them now, because once they're sold out, you won't be able to get them this cheap again http://catalog.1234gorecords.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=97
Plankfan Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Picked up a Green Kick Over the Traces over a month ago at this point I think...so they must have some decent stock and man does it sound great.
Todd Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 I didn't realize it applied for Kick Over the Traces too, but Aaron wasn't happy with the Recess vinyl, so the band recalled all the albums and had them destroyed. So there aren't very many of these around!

Maddie86 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I always kinda assumed the band wanted the records destroyed because of an internal feud or something. I just listened to the recess presses of Jump Salty and Carry the Banner and now I'm listening to my original Lookout pressing of Goodbye Ellston Avenue and the Lookout one just sounds so much more full, the recess ones sound really thin, the guitar and vocals overpower everything I don't know how they ended up like that, they should have caught any issues with the test pressings. and then why not just get a better master and have a better pressing? There's gotta be a demand for it...
Todd Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 I heard from someone who's done business with Recess that Aaron was listening to Jump Salty and it skipped, so he ordered them all to be destroyed. Sounds very exaggerated, but who knows

Sounds very exaggerated, but who knows Aaron is a perfectionist so this seems totally possible Part of me never really believed the story of the albums being recalled. Like I think it was a deliberate move on the part of the band/Aaron who enjoys the air of mystery and creating the illusion of a product being extremely rare. He gave a hint of this in a radio interview a few years ago when taking about his zine and how people love to think they're getting something extremely unique and rare however he sells thousands of each edition. I have a sneaky feeling the "recall" might have been planned. There certainly seems to be enough copies about. Maybe Aaron has just made me paranoid

Do you know where I can find that story again?

Sounds very exaggerated, but who knows I think I did hear about issues with that. there were a few different colors, I got white vinyl for both Recess albums that I have but I know there were options for clear/translucent vinyl and those are more prone to problems, which is why I think a lot of people had issues with the trans red version of revrad. another funny story... I posted a lot on the pop-punk message board back when it was around, and Larry Livermore was on there a lot too. I remember when the West Side Highway 7" came out Larry said he was in NY with cometbus and neither one of them had record players so they had to try and find one to listen to the record on!

I'll have to check the colours of my Pinhead vinyl now (I think they're mostly white also) but I know I have the red Kick Over The Traces anyway without any issues. If it is the case that Aaron destroyed the records because they skipped he would have had some bonfire with the Revrad vinyl 9 minutes ago, Kyle Serlington said: another funny story... This is brilliant! My new record is out yay...huh I can't actually listen to it
Maddie86 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I think the skips depends on your record player. I used to listen to records on a cheap player that would skip, I upgraded to a better one a couple years ago and a lot of those albums are fine now.

Aaron Cometbus: "There's nothing like the feeling of putting the needle down on your very first record of your own band. It's a wonderful feeling. But I also remember a different kind of good feeling, which is smashing your own record into a million pieces. I did that with copies of the Crimpshrine Burning Bridges EP on the way back from a show in Davis, tossing them out the car window and watching them splinter onto the highway. I was frustrated and sad. And angry, of course. But it wasn't just that. It felt good to destroy a little of what you'd worked so hard to create."

I have that book but it's among the hundreds of books either with Cometbus quotes/mentioned in it or written by him so there was no way I was going to remember where it was from and it was really irritating That's one of the pitfalls of having a massive library of punk books...you can never find a quote when you think of it.
