Back in the USA and Ordinary World (Rate)

Since the 2 new songs came out today, we should have a consensus of how we feel about them. For me, Back in the USA is a solid 7/10 .. Nice power pop tune, reminiscent of Stay the Night. And Ordinary World 6/10 .. A little less than I had expected, but still pretty good. I think Billie and Norah doing this song together would be a 10!

I agree and gave BITUSA a 7 but I had to give OW a 1 because country, ew. (And I didn’t like the song to begin with but I would have given it a 3 before)

With Ordinary World a bad song was made worse.

Well, I think I'll give Back in the USA (By the way, what's the official abbreviation for this song? BITU? BITUSA? ) a 6/10. It's nice, classic Green Day but it's not spectacular. A decent song that will eventually grow on me.

As for OW, I'll give it a 7/10. I don't know why so many of you don't like the original. I certainly do. This version is weaker than the version On RevRad but it's still enjoyable.

I gave OW a 4, which is up from the 1 I'd give the original, haha. It's probably my second least fave GD song ever.

BITUSA though get's an 8 from me. The lyrics really hit the nail on the head for me and the music is simple but still good, one more good verse and a bit more variation in the instrumentation and it would've been a 9.5-10.

I gave OW a 3. I love the original, but this version kinda ruined it.

Back in the USA gets a 6, it reminds me of the revrad title track but with some even shittier lyrics. It's also too short, but it has some nice melodies and I really like the backing vocals in the last chorus.

New OW gets a 5, I don't think it's better or worse than the old version, it's still just mediocre.

I give Back in the USA a 7, because it's quite good but i'm not in love with it. Sound like something from AI, like bsides such as too much too soon. so good but not the greates thing in the universe
i haven't hear the new ordinary world, i really love the original. I'm afraid they would ruin it now

Back in the USA is a 7/10, good song, some Trilogy + Old School Vibe song. A little bit short.

Ordinary World, the original is... ok. The New Version is little bit better for me. It's a 6/10!! I like Miranda's featuring. It reminds me a lot of Foreverly.

Back in the USA- 7.5, but I rounded up to 8.  Wish it was a little longer, and for the line "Let there be poison and it tastes like lemonade", I really want to change the "and" to "that" (and get rid of the "it"), but that's just me being anal.

OW- original is one of my favorite GD songs, but not a big fan of this.  I don't feel their voices blend together well.  I gave it a 5 just for being OW.

Thoughts on the new music:

Back in the USA was actually most excellent. It felt kind of dramatic, yet not to much; - activism, and homeyness at the same time. It's good. Not the best they've done, but quite good.

Ordinary World was good how it was, and it would have been better with Norah - or somebody a bit jazzier. I don't hate Miranda, but I just don't like the way their voices sound together at all. Just one of those cases of if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I just think the main vocal arrangement on Ordinary World is bad. Why can't they sing like 2 verses on their own and then join together on the chorus or something like that their voices just don't fint together

I just listened to the new OW for the first time - what bugs me most isn't the voices or anything, but that it is so slow. It almost feels as if someone reduced the speed after recording it or something. It's not that I hate it, but it's just nothing special.

Back in the USA: I liked it after the first few listens, and I love it now in combination with the video. It's such a sweet, short, yet very emotional song that sums up this era perfectly for me, it's an 8 for me.

Ordinary World: I would have to give this a 4. I love the original but something about this version rubs me the wrong way. I don't think their voices really go together that well. I think Norah Jones would have been better to bring back for this one. Miranda's vocals also sound mixed too loud compared to Billie's since she is only doing backing harmonies really. 

Back in the USA: Definitely a 10 for me. I loved it on first listen. I just wish it was longer with maybe another verse or a bridge. The lyrics are passionate, the video is great, and it is catchy as hell. Think it has good radio potential as well. Hopefully this is a sign of what is going to come next from them.

So I calculated an average rating of 7.3 for BITUSA and 4.8 for the new OW.

So the question is, is this new OW track more hated than Nightlife?

I definitely prefer Nightlife to OW. At least Nightlife is funky, not twangy.
