Dressing up as Mike Dirnt

I’m playing bass in a Green Day tribute band for a one-off show, and so naturally I’m planning to dress up as Mike.  Is this something anyone’s done before?  Any hints or tips on how to go about it?  Is there anything you see as being quintessentially Mike, or anything that I absolutely should/shouldn’t wear?  I’m aiming for American Idiot era, but willing to compromise to look recognisable to an audience who aren’t necessarily as into Green Day (or Mike ) as I am.

Look into Pinterest for ideas. You can maybe find a look that you will appreciate and consider enough recognisable.

Mike usualy goes sleevesless on stage. His (mostly black, sometimes red) shirts can be very simple on some occasions, while on other times they can have many patches on. Also, he always has black pants and shoes.

Sleeveless shirts + sideburns = Mike  I would also recommend practicing goofy faces in the mirror beforehand

This outfit would be an easy one to copy that's also recognisable. The cosplay posted above that used it looks pretty good. You could cut the sleeves off a regular shirt and then just buy trousers with a side stripe. Also you can buy fake sideburns

The goofy faces are the bit I can do.  I just need to work on doing them intentionally...

You've got to have a vest, but I think practicing some of Mike's signature moves and face expressions might be the most important thing  

and add this one if you want to impress

Looking tall without actually being that tall and being very bony will also help And practice his kick-ass jumps like the one on your picture

I actually have a couple of tattoo sleeves from back when I dressed up as Billie once... yes, I really did that...

There are 2.  I have access to neither, thank god

I can, however, confirm that there is an official photographer at this event, so you’ll definitely be getting photos.  To put my costume into perspective, I have ginger ha hair and blonde stick-on sideburns, so that’s how this is going...
