Favorite Bonus Tracks

In addition to the standard LP/CD releases, there's always those alternatives that offer up interesting new bonus tracks, either for a certain region or special event. So the question is, which release has your favorite bonus tracks, and has the most incentive for upgrading?

-WMMR tracks added to iTunes Deluxe Version

Kerplunk:
- Sweet Children EP added to the CD release

Insomniac:
- "I Want to Be On TV" added to the Japanese release
- "Live Tracks" added to Australian Tour Pack

Nimrod
- "Desensitized" added to Japanese release
- "Suffocate", "Do Da Da", "Desensitized", "You Lied" added to Australian release

Warning
- "86" added to UK release
- "Brat" and "86" added to Australian and Japanese releases

American Idiot
- "Favorite Son" added to Japanese release
- "Favorite Son" and live CD added to Japanese tour release
- "Too Much Too Soon", "Shoplifter", "Governator" added to iTunes Deluxe Version

21st Century Breakdown
- "Lights Out" added to Japanese, Taiwanese, and Korean releases
- "A Quick One While He's Away", "Another State of Mind", "That's All Right", "Like a Rolling Stone" added to iTunes preorder bonus tracks

Awesome as Fuck
- "Letterbomb" and "Christie Road" added to Deluxe Edition
- "Paper Lanterns/2,000 Light Years Away" added to iTunes Deluxe Version

There's definitely a few I'm forgetting, but these are at least the major ones. I'm going to go with the iTunes Preorder tracks for 21CB because they're exclusive to the set, and showcase Green Day covering other artists' songs, which is indeed a rarity. At the same time, it still has a sense of belonging on the album and isn't just tacked on. I'm a fanboy of Green Day to the point where I think most of their covers improve on the originals, and that's the case here, with the exception of "That's All Right" (nobody will be able to touch Elvis' version). Overall, if a brand new studio follow-up to American Idiot wasn't enough to get you excited, these tracks sure would.

Lights Out and Favorite Son and Too Much Too Soon

I love the extra tracks on Awesome as Fuck. I distinctly remember that being the first time I had ever heard Paper Lanterns. I had all of 1039 on my phone except for Paper Lanterns due to file error. I didn't realize I was missing it, so imagine my shock when I find this new (old) Green Day song for the first time. I only had the live version for a while until I bought a copy of 1039 on CD

Don't forget the live tracks from the trilogy (I mean japanese releases and digital from Converse's soundcloud page) and 21stCB had exclusive live tracks in rhapsody (Know your enemy and Static Age Live) and another japanese release including a bonus live CD from Tokyo 2005.

I choose the live tracks from japanese releases for the trilogy, including the extra 4 tracks getting the three albums to get a code to download them. It's kind of a "Trilogy live EP"

I like bonus songs: too much to soon, Shop lifter?..is that bonus track from AI?..

Green Day's bonus tracks are some of their best, it's a pity we don't get to hear more of them live.  My favourite bonus track is Favorite Son, which easily ranks in my top 5 out of all GD's songs.  I also love too much to soon and governator, especially with how rare a Mike-led track is.  I can't stand the 21CB era originals, lights out and hearts collide just don't really do much for me, but I do like the covers.  The live version of Christie Road is the best song on AAF and that made me lose my mind when I actually got to hear it live in person on the last tour.

Yep, shoplifter and too much too soon are both bonus tracks from the AI deluxe edition, along with Governator which was originally released on Rock Against Bush I believe.

Shoplifter and Lights Out are my favourites.

Favorite Son and Too Much Too Soon are awesome.

Too Much Too Soon, and Another State of Mind. I've oddly never heard the other AI songs yet.

Also, has anyone heard the alternate version of 21st Century Breakdown on Youtube?

Was that the demo?

Couldn't remember if it was or not, but it is. I like this version quite a bit. :)

Geez it's the demo!

I like that way better than the album

I wish Green Day would remix Devil's Kind and make it a RevRad bonus track. I love that song.

Suffocate, Shoplifter, and Do Da Da would be my top three bonuses.

Shoplifter has always been one of my favorites. Lights Out is great, SIck of Me, Suffocate, Don't Wanna Fall in Love, Outsider - I know that's a Ramones cover, but it's one of my favorite bonus tracks.

That 21CB demo is interesting! So many of the lyrics were changed. I love demos when you can tell they're a work in progress. Now in Cuatro! You saw Billie recording a demo (Missing You I think) where he was recording all the parts himself, so it was before Mike and Tre arranged the bass and drums. Do you think that was the case here with this song? Does he play all the instruments and then play it for them and they add their own musical ideas? I'm just wondering if this is the way Mike and Tre first heard this song and if that's how it's typically done (though I'm sure some songs are more in a state of completion than others and some just fragments). I'm interested in the process that's why I love Cuatro so much. I wish HLAHG covered the writing period but I imagine that was a bit more drawn out and tumultuous.

Back on topic: my favorite "bonus tracks" are basically all of Shenanigans.  I've really come to love that record. Is it true that Stuck With Me and Do Da Da accidentally had their titles switched during manufacturing but they were initially the other way around?

The AI/21CB era bonus tracks are definitely my favorites, particularly Too Much Too Soon and Hearts Collide.

Honorable mention:

I forgot about all those intriguing Trilogy era songs which we never got to hear (aside from State of Shock), but given Billie's intention to remix more tracks from Uno, Dos and Tré, I hope for an official release of all the post-Warning bonus tracks on Shenanigans 2.0.

Too Much Too Soon is probably my favourite. I do love Best Thing In Town and Sweet Children aswell.

I always forget about that song! I remember how much people hated it, but it's just a cute, generic holiday tune. I thought it was a nice gift after not hearing anything new from the band at that point.

Yeah, one easily forgets about that song. It's like the Ballad of Wilhelm Fink from Short Music for Short People, a cute throwaway song.

Now, in the case of Xmas Time of the Year, it was more or less a signal from the band that they were still alive and making music after HoB and R&R HoF.

me too..which it would replace with YB..(kill me now)!:ga:

It doesn't need to replace anything, RevRad is too short. While we're at it add Body Bag too, I love that song.

Nimrod b-sides are my fav, especially Suffocate

Fuck yeah. Best Thing In Town rules, had Kerplunk! on today and sometimes I choose to listen to the bonus shit and sometimes I don't. Glad I did today. Also listened to Shenanigans and I love Suffocate and Outsider. Love the rest of them as well.
