Green Day & Miranda Lambert Collaborating?

Billie Joes Eyelids

I know this is out of left field. But I sometimes check GD and Billie twitter mentions for news. The other day I followed one that was a thread of Miranda Lambert fans. And now I can't find it, dang it. Long story short, someone posted that they saw Green Day and Miranda coming out of a recording studio when they were both in Denver. Also, Billie recently started following Miranda on IG and she recently started following Green Day and Billie. Also Billie liked and commented on one of her recent posts, which is rare. Weird, eh?

Mods feel free to put this under Random News or something if that would be more appropriate

Whaaaa? He isn't on some country kick after that Foreverly thing is he? 😕

I don't know, maybe. They performed a song together on the Grammys a few years ago when Norah Jones wasn't able to. Billie seems to be a fan. Check out his comment on her post at Red Rocks in Colorado.

Never heard of her, but I don't hate country some country music.

Oh shoot. So their new manager isn't into rock music, huh? 😂

I wonder what the guys are up to next, remixes, mysterious videos, country projects, there's so much happening, my head is spinning.

Oh I remember when BJ sung with her at the Grammy's & at the end punched her in the arm:lol:

Sorry that's a shit clip.

This shows the little punch towards the end but yeah sorry for the bad clip.

I wouldn't mind another country project

Huh! I hadn't seen the Grammys clip, their voices do sound very nice together

He liked and commented on a Billy Idol post recently. Think I'll hold out hope for that collaboration if we're going by that theory :P

I think all we can infer from all this is that he's been spending a lot of time online. 🙂

I guess it's the studio sighting that has people gossiping. They could have just been hanging out or maybe he was producing something for her. Was it confirmed they were all there or just Billie?

That "Foreverly Thing" was a when the band wasn't touring remake of an entire Everly Brothers remake of their seminal album "Songs of Our Fathers" and if you follow Billie's influences, the Everly Brothers are in at least the top 5 influences (as are The Beatles by the way) and The Beatles list The Everly Brothers as a major influence (and also Elvis Presley and  Chuck Berry). Without the "country Stuff" and while they had country twists, most people would call the Everly Brothers one of the first rockers in the world. And by the way, I hate to tell you but for the last 4 or so albums, Billie and the band have been writing in pretty much 60s and country progressions (sometimes quite obviously in songs like LOTAG) and even older songs could easily be turned into county songs by just playing them different.

Major Billie influence Chuck Berry (and influence to all rock and roll artists).  RIP

Everly brothers hits. If you don't hear the Billie influence then your not listening. And he made this with Norah Jones when right after either one or the final one had just passed. These last two are pioneers of ALL ROCK. Learn the history. On the second one "All I Have To Do Is Dream", tell me you can't hear the whole of WMUWSE"

And finally in case you don't think a Green Day song doesn't almost always have a country or 60s progression (which is esentually the early fusion of rock/blues/country, I once again submit the following:

and I'll end with Billie and Norah.

Also, he did perform with Lambert before so it wouldn't surprise me but nobody should ever knock The Everly Brothers in public IMO. Not if you are around older people who know that without the Everly brothers we would be a lot farther back in rock music. They were influence to about everyone in rock music. The best of the best of the best invoke TEB in their influences and Billie Joe does excitably so if you like Billie's music, you should at least respect the Everly Brothers.

And why not throw in this HCTS by The Beatles with LNOE. It's not fantastic but it does show the 60s chords.

Why the eye roll? I wasn't dogging you, I just post long posts. I like you actually. Wasn't trying to say "you're wrong". Let old fucks like me enjoy their only thing they have over being young, some knowledge and wisdom.  I'd trade it for youth if it makes you feel better.

People have such delicate sensibilities around here. ;)

I know, it just left little room for opposing viewpoints. Hence the eye roll. 😉

Acknowledging an historical contribution is one thing, that doesn't mean I'd be in favor of a collaboration with current country artists.  Just not my thing.

ETA: Why do you assume I'm young? I might be older than you.

What do you mean? Do you disagree? If you do, state your case. I am perfectly capable of having a conversation that is contrary to what I think. I even enjoy it, and will not think the less of you, quite the contrary, and if you actually change my mind on something, I'll admit it and thank you.

* And btw, if I left little room for opposing viewpoints, then isn't that just a way of saying I proved a point. I'm not calling anyone wrong, just trying to educate from my noggin which is certainly not the authority on what's right and wrong. I mean it should be, I've applied but nobody will give it to me.

I'm not trying to change anybody's mind, that's the difference I guess. (I added to my previous post)

Again, you're putting a negative spin on what was just an educational post of mine. Not sure why. I thought you and others might find it interesting. I wasn't trying to change your mind, I was trying to expand it.

*** To your edited post about "why do I assume you're younger", it's ONLY because I'm 41 or 42 (honestly can't remember) and I assume I'm older than everyone here and usually am. That's the only reason.

Anyway man, jeez back to you. I was just writing something about a tiny little portion of your post. I wasn't attacking it. So many things turn into pissing contests around here. If I made that happen, I apologize. It was not my goal. As I said, I like your posts.

Also, it's fine that you don't like the calaborations. I love them. I love most of what   Billie does in the music world. If you don't, that's cool. I am sure we agree and disagree on a million other things too. Who cares?

I also HATE HATE HATE bullshit country music but I love real bluegrass and country music that is written by someone with a soul like Willie Nelson or Wayland.  Once again, I'll invoke Bo who so often thinks what I do.

No problem, just didn't expect such a strong defense to what was really meant as an offhanded comment. I like to analyze, opine, discuss and debate but conflict makes me shiver and run so that may be more my issue than yours anyway.

For the record, my other great musical love is Elvis Costello and if ever there was an artist that loves his country phases, it's him. I've been through it all the good, the bad and the ugly. He's introduced me to a lot, some I like and some I don't. Patsy Cline still brings me to tears so maybe I'm just old school, but modern country music? No thank you. Ew.

My other other love is The Beatles of course. Convention goer and collector for years. I know my classic country.

And ha, I knew it! I'm 50 🙂 Elvis and I go back to 1977 together.

To be honest, I am not too excited about the idea of collaborating with country artists. I am not against it, but with my limited knowledge of contemporary country, I can't really get excited. I was extremely into the Jones collab since it was announced simply because I know her and like her.

To be honest, I think I could actually support a collab with Miranda Jones. She is one of the few modern country artists that I actually like - and has put out some meaningful songs. I thinks it's important not to instantly disqualify a genre simply based off of mainstream radio offerings. Also, if Foreverly is of any indicator, Billie has proven to produce better country music than probably a good 80% or so of the artists currently working under that spectrum. A theory behind that being that traditional country music kind of took bluegrass and folk elements, and melded them with early forms of rock and roll / rockabillie. Whereas currently country artists generally choose the route of taking country influences and blending them with hiphop to get the trash that one commonly sees today. Just my little music theory rant,...

Yeah, it was all love baby.  The other day when we were posting together in that thread, I thought we had a "forum bond" and I was pleased with you. I thought you were really "above average for you age" but seeing how you are the rare exception and are older than I, my wisdom is not as far reaching as yours. I NEVER come to argue the point of art, be it country or not.

If you told me your favorite band was some accordion playing Norwegian hole in the wall, I would be glad for you. I am never trying to sway people to like what I like. I am only trying to introduce them to it. I would have NEVER liked that bluegrass Green Day shit that I posted above 20 years ago but now I love it. It's a different way to listen to them in the car, you know what I mean?

I think we crossed the streams there is all and had a misunderstanding and I am sure it was my fault but no harm. I think you are a good contributor to the forum and I look out for your posts now so quit being such a bitch.

I WAS JUST KIDDING on that last thing. I like to fuck around. Most people that know me around here, know I'm out of my good.  "30 years of adulterated street drugs will get you some fucking angels my friend!" - George Carlin (I don't know why I quoted Carlin but it never hurts). ;)

BTW, Kudos to you on Costello!  I agree. :)

I think I've always had a thing for intelligent songwriters with weird voices. I sense a trend. 😉

Happy to forum bond any time.

So I assume that this was when they recorded the new version of Ordinary World. I don't expect that we'll get anything else from Billie and Miranda anytime soon.

Ha, had forgotten about this thread altogether!  I have watched the rehearsal and performance a good number of times and am not sure I like her voice at all (not a country fan) but am hoping their duet is better, they will have had more time, I assume, to work it out.  Twenty-seven days now at the most until we find out!
