Pinnakle Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I currently have Revolution Radio, 21st century breakdown American Idiot, Warning and Insomniac. I have Nimrod and Dookie but there still in the post. What album should I get next?
unextraordinarygirl Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Just get them all and decide for yourself which you like best. That's what the rest of us seem to do. You won't be sorry.

Hermione Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Omg how great to have Nimrod and Dookie in the post and get to hear them for the first time! I'm jealous of you. When I got into Green Day I bought each album gradually one at a time over a few months and I loved it, not only do you not have to spend a large amount of money at once but you also have time to enjoy each one and always have the next one to look forward to. Not that many left but yeah Kerplunk would be good because it's cool to hear their early stuff. Then there's just 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Uno, Dos and Tre. I'd maybe try to get those three at once (or one after the other) since they go together. And Shenanigans (a compilation of 1994-2002 b sides) is well worth getting too. Then of course there's loads more b sides/covers/random non albums songs to find online.
Shtrudel Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I'm sure you can find each album on YT in good quality. You should listen to them on YT and decide which you want to get next.
unextraordinarygirl Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Probably either Kerplunk or 1,039 Smooth. You actually have a really good collection going already.
jengd Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I would agree Kerplunk, can you not get them in a deal in a record shop?
UNICORN VOMIT Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Kerplunk. I would get Demolicious before the trilogy.

That reminds me of that interview before RevRad was released when Tré said that he never has the chance to listen to a Green Day album for the very first time and that he'd really like to know what it feels like So yeah, I'm a bit jealous too, listening to a record like Dookie for the very first time must be such a cool experience. I don't remember mine because I got into Green Day track by track, not album by album, and it didn't really hit me until AI. But since then, listening to their new albums is always a celebration for me, it feels so special and important. So enjoy!
Hermione Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Just thought, another good reason to get Kerplunk is there's a delightful story printed in the booklet . Good album and a good read.

tomdsjames Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 You can listen to the ones you don't have on Spotify (it's free, but thanks to the new chart rules it will contribute towards the sales still) then make up your mind on which one to purchase. There are some real gems on all the albums you don't own yet. Based on the albums you already own, I'd hazard a guess that you'd prefer the Trilogy over the first 2 albums as they're more similar in sound but it depends what other music you listen to. Tre is the most similar sounding to the 'new' Green Day sound. Shenanigans has some great songs but is just a compilation of B-sides rather than an actual studio album so I don't know whether to count it or not? There's still some great melodies on the first 2 albums (Kerplunk especially) but as the albums weren't recorded on a major label, the tracks are a lot more raw.
