Green Day best live songs

Nowhere Man

So this thread is about the songs that you enjoy most being performed live. Even if you haven't ever been to Green Day show, post your opinion here.

For me:

1) Waiting

I've been waiting a lifetime
For this moment to come
I'm destined for anything at all - This is exactly what I feel during the show, brings so much emotions and joy!

2) East Jesus Nowhere

Have never witnessed it live unfortunately, but watching the videos I find it amazing. This dark atmosphere, heaviness and child saving - epic, will always be surprised that they decided to drop it, during 21cb tour it was looking like EJN is Billie's one of the favourites.

3) Brain Stew

Slow and angry - I think the perfect Green Day song for a moshpit :)

Also Hitchin'a'Ride which is glorious live and has a similar vibe to Brain Stew

4) Minority

I love how Billie makes of the most political song on Warning a big joyful "Thank you" to fans, harmonica solos, needless to say it's Green Day live classic (BIAB version is brilliant).

5) Forever Now

Saw the videos, the opinions - and this should be one of their most energetic live performances! This is the song I wanna hear the most on upcoming concert.

That's actually funny I didn't put any Dookie or American Idiot songs here although I love these 2 albums and they are basically the half of every show!! From them - When I Come Around, Holiday, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Longview, Are We The Waiting/St.Jimmy, Welcome To Paradise

I would agree with all of those and add KFAD and Hitching a Ride. I know that's an unpopular opinion and people don't like how they get dragged out, but I"m excited to see/hear those live. I love watching videos of them.  I'm also excited to hear all the newer songs from Revolution Radio. I'm just really excited to hear anything they play.

Oh, difficult... Letterbomb, Minority and Jesus of Suburbia! Letterbomb because it's one of my absolute favorite songs, and Minority/JoS because of the connection with the audience(powerful and everyone in the arena just seem to enjoy those songs together!).

I really like Youngblood from their latest album, better live than studio in my opinion. Simple song but a lot of raw energy!

Fuck man, they played some great songs over the years. I think for me, i would say She's a Rebel, X-Kid, Murder City, Minority, Longview, and Geek Stink Breath. Hopefully they play more songs from 21st Century Breakdown instead of just Know Your Enemy

This is so tough! I enjoy all of their songs live! I'm not one of those people complaining about setlists that much because energy and passion is much more important, and they sure as hell have a lot of that right now. But of course I have my live-favourites, those are just some of them (no specific order):

Hitchin a Ride: Perfect song to go crazy and dance, feels like an injection of pure energy.

KFAD: Hate me, but I love this song and it's always a highlight for me live. It's so crazy and just SO them, I love it.

Holiday: A perfect hymn to sing along and I absolutely love when the crowd screams "Amen!", "Punishment!" etc.

21 Guns: Just heard this live once in 2010 but the memory still gives me goosebumbs, I love Billies voice in the live performance. Epic.

Longview: Watching fans getting on stage and rocking the hell out of it makes me so, so happy. The song always sounds different with different people singing it, so it never gets boring.

Still Breathing: I can't even express how much I love this song and how emotional it is to see Billie performing it. Saw it live twice and it already feels like they've played it forever with the crowd singing along like mad. Saw people tearing up in the crowd (ehm - me too), this is magic. Love it!!

Forever Now: This song has such a great flow and is full of energy, I love how Billie screams the last "I ain't gonna stand in line no more!"

Brutal Love: I loved this song as the closer during their 2013 tour. I personally could do without Good Riddance, they could do Brutal Love instead. One of the best songs they've ever made.

I always find it weird how they sound better live than on the albums for most songs . Most of the American Idiot songs are my favs especially JOS

Totally forgot about Brutal Love. It is definitely their masterpiece.

I completely agree with MMwhatsername.

Still Breathing/Forever Now is awesome and perfectly put in the setlist.

Hitchin' A Ride is so powerful live, I love the 1-2, 1-2-3-4 thing.

Also KYE, it involves you in 2.3 milliseconds.

And here it comes the unpopular opinion: Youngblood. Live it's far better than studio. You just want to jump.

Yes, I've been on my first Green Day concert this week and I have to say that KYE is a really great song for opening!!!

Also Hitchin' A Ride can't be left out cause on many concerts I watched from Green Day the part of the 1-2, 1-2-3-4 was just amazing and at that point everyone in the crowd (even those "fans" who don't know any lyrics) start to sing and jump :D

Although Youngblood was the one song on their last album that I didn't like that much at first, the live version was at least three times better and that really surprised me! It's a song full of energy that just belongs on the setlist.

Unpopular opinion (at least it seems so):

21CB was just the best opener throughout the tour that followed the album. It has a beginning that's building up a lot of suspense and when the songs starts for real it's just an amazing feeling (even though I only watched those live performances, I could really feel the energy).

Totally agree about KFAD and Hitchin a Ride, always my favourites because they're just so entertaining!

I love seeing any songs that have special traditions that go along with them rather than just being played through so any of those are at the top of my list. Longview (or Knowledge which I'm hoping to see next week) with fans joining the band, child saved in EJN, the St Jimmy routine, introducing the band in Minority, solo Good Riddance singalong, of course KFAD/Shout and Hitchin a Ride, amusing Mike Dirnt related lyric changes in When I Come Around, Before the Lobotomy storytime, American Idiot wall of death, Brain Stew metal covers, etc etc, all that stuff is my favourite so I always hope for songs that include it.

Also Brutal Love and BOBD just because they're really beautiful songs and that's only magnified by hearing them live, if I see Forever Now or (unlikely but would be even better) Somewhere Now I'll feel the same about that too. And Blood Sex and Booze and Pulling Teeth just for the fact I love those songs and it was a real treat to see them.

After seeing them on this tour, the first song that comes to mind is definitely Forever Now, and also Holiday - I think I'll never get tired of that one, so amazingly powerful live. Same goes for East Jesus Nowhere, that's one song I wish they'd play again.

As for personal favourites, seeing Stuck With Me and J.A.R. was like a religious experience for me  If I could I'd see these a thousand more times.

I agree with all the "obvious" ones mentioned, Hitchin' a Ride (so much fun) and Still Breathing (so intense) coming out on top. Watched so many of those on youtube over the last couple of months leading up to my first show and they didn't disappoint live. KYE is one of the few songs that I almost always skip but it really does work as an opener. Other than that none really stick out for me at the moment, I want it all!

Also, kind of related, I had a bit of a goosebumps and something-in-my-eye moment to BIAB Holiday just now. Yeah it's anti war but damn it pushes some buttons in 2017 too:cry::sick:

Pulling Teeth (BS&B's even sexier cousin in my humble opinion) might actually be my favourite Dookie song, have they played it a lot?

JOS and Forever Now seems like the pinnacle of amazingness live haha!

I would gladly give everything to never hear KFAD ever again.

Unfortunately not, I just had a look at setlist fm and they've only ever played it 7 times (when they played all of Dookie at a few shows in 2013 and part of it played acoustic before Good Riddance at a couple of 21st CB shows).  Shame! But at least they know how to play it and have done so quite recently, makes the chances of them playing it again slightly higher than for songs they've never played or haven't played for years I guess :P

Not sure it's the best but one of my favorites live songs is ST. Jimmy  off of Bullet in a Bible.

just hearing the crowd yell out 1.2.3.4  sends chills up the spine.

I'm seeing them Friday in Paris

I'd love to play Longview (let me hope ! ^^) and then ask a song ! My favorite would be Forever Now, but I don't think it would feet well in the setlist...

What do you think guys ?

Ah I see. Well you're lucky who got to see it! Not getting my hopes up but I guess I have a few months before my next show to telepathically plant an idea in their minds :ga:

This is hard to pick haha so many good songs to choose haha

I would say I am bias towards going to pasalaqcua because it's my fav song and when they played it at the emirates I went crazy! I think my top 5 is:

1. St Jimmy just fast and can go crazy to it!

2. Know Your Enemy - I might get a lot of hate for this but I really like it live! I personally think it's a great choice for an opener because everyone knows it and gets people moving and right into the gig the straight away while saving the iconic songs later.

3. Basket Case because everyone goes nuts. Casual fans and hardcore fans :)

4. Jesus of Suburbia just a masterpiece and gets the crowd involved with the changes in the song!

5. Minority - I love this song as it's the song that got me into Green Day! Just so much better live and you can feel the energy of it!

However songs I would like to see live that I havnt seen before is

1. Scattered - Love the chorus especially

2. Bang Bang - Just so powerful!

3. Still Breathing - I can imagine getting goosebumps during this song with the crowd!

4. Say Goodbye - My favourite from RevRad. l just think it will sound awesome live

5. Homecoming - Love the involvement of the whole band as they have their own little segment in it :) think it will be awesome live!

That was hard haha. I'll probs change my mind later but this for now haha

KYE is so much better live. As some of you might have noticed, I'm no KYE fan but it's so much fun!

I found Letterbomb a little disappointing - I think it's one of a few songs that works better played in one piece.

Shoutout to @Nowhere Man for the Hobo Billie Joe ava!

Thanks! It would be fun if he appears like this some day not during the break but on tour or just after the release of an album ;)

And I agree with you completely on Letterbomb. Usually it's fun how they prolong songs and involve the crowd, but here it seems forced. On album it is very energetic and seems to be played on one breath (like Basket Case in Dookie which thankfully they just play)!

I'd love that. (And the fan reaction :P )

Letterbomb is one of their best songs imo, but it's strength is in energy. It somewhat loses the urgency when they make the break. Maybe they could prolong the intro and put the speech at the beginning...

You made a good comparison with BC. Basket Case always seems so short!

I like KYE. At least musically. It has always been an opener in my GD playlists, along with Nice Guys Finish Last and Bang Bang.

I agree that live KYE is better. Especially when Trè starts to make you jump.

This is a good topic!

My personal favourite to hear live is Minority.  In 2012 I saw them in London and Paris and the performance of Minority really stuck with me both times... so much so that I now have "One light, one mind" tattooed on my chest.

I've also always liked She and BOBD.  I really want to hear them play Castaway live but I'm not holding my breath!

Posted

I like Minority live too.  But mostly because it's hubby's favorite song and it always makes him happy to hear which, in turn, makes me happy.

Yeah, yeah, sappy relationship reason.
