I'd love to have a tarantula just cruise by like that. So cool! I didn't know they were found so far north, but I just looked it up and apparently there are a few species around the Bay Area and it's the perfect time of year to see the males out wandering long distances to find females. This little man was probably out on a mission to hunt down a lady friend. Looks like it is probably Aphonopelma iodius. 4 1 Quote

Not quite *that* into them anymore, but I still think they are just super cool and fascinating. Quote

If it was just sitting all chill somewhere I would probably just grab it and toss it back in its habitat. If it came at me quickly or startled me I would probably freak out and run away. Unfortunately, if it got out it would probably die on its own if it were out for a few days. I understand they have to stay under a heat lamp. It wouldn't survive outside in Chicago for very long, especially in winter. Also, for those who were wondering, it turns out there ARE tarantulas in the Bay Area. I just found this article about the mating season currently going on there.
