Interesting. Yes, big bands play the most streamed songs, which isn't new. Most bands just play the hits. What's interesting is to a see a band that's never been on tv or the radio or the charts, and see them build deep cuts into their most played songs on streaming services, essentially MAKING it their biggest hit instead of whatever tanked single the band release. As far as the big bands like Green Day, I don't know if they are looking at Spotify and deciding to play those songs, or it's the other way around where their biggest hits are simply the most streamed. All I know is someone that loves every note that Green Day make, it makes me just a little uncomfortable to see. But that's the way it is. It's amazing how a song, album or even band can be known as unsuccessful when they really aren't. St. Anger by Metallica is aggressively labeled as one of the worst albums of all time, but it sold 6 million copies which even by Metallica standards is pretty darn good. That Dude Posted May 5, 2023 Share Posted May 5, 2023 Fat Mike talks about the punk rock museum, which sounds amazing. You can play guitars, hang with bands, etc. He talks about putting bands in there that don't consider themselves punk and when pushed to say who, he says Green Day. They say they are a rock band and that's it. Other bands are in there like Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold because of where they come from and not because of their genre. I think every band has some element of punk in the mix. I once read that Barenaked Ladies were influenced by Punk. Anyway, great podcast.
