LunaR Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 As a Christmas present, I have secretly bought my Green Day-loving-husband tickets to see them at Hyde Park in July. He was desperate to see them at the O2 but he couldn't do the dates at work. I've not told him that I've got them, and as tickets aren't physical any more (at least until closer to the time), I've tried to think about inventive ways to reveal his present on Christmas Day. I've settled on a video- I'm visiting London the next two days, and so wanted to do something with silly puns or silly humour that are clues to Green Day, with a big reveal at the end that actually he'll be seeing them. Here's where I need help, I'm desperate for some ideas. The sorts of clues I've been thinking are the old school bad puns- pointing to a calendar date of the end of September for example, shaking my head at an O2 Store (because it's not THE O2), and getting more and more obvious with having some sort of 'nearly...but not quite' musing outside the American Idiot Musical theatre. I've got all of London and two days to play with, so I'd love any ideas or puns that could come my way- whilst I'm not a super fan, my husband is, so whilst I can't think of much, I'm hoping there's more out there! Thank you in advance!
Shahd Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This sounds nice! I can't think of anything at the moment, but I'm sure other people will be able to help. And if I could think of something later I'll be back for sure. Just wanted to wish you the best of luck!
Joe K Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Yeah I got no ideas either at the moment but if you get it done please post it here!
Marki. Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Your husband is a lucky man, that's a fantastic present! If someone did that for me, I'd be going crazy. It's great that you can use the locations in London, you can actually show Hyde Park, musical theatre etc. Apart from that and the calendar with the date, you could show a radio (because Revolution Radio duh )... I'll try to think of some actual good Green Day hints, but I think he'll get it even from these that you wrote.
strangestat Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Armitage Shanks is a british thing right? A little gross but, poop (dookie) in an armitage shanks toilet, lol. Oh god that's awful
Christian's Inferno! Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Maybe show him a picture of Donald Trump and he should get American Idiot from that
St. Jonny Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Yeah, their names are on urinal's HAHA. Green Day thought it was a neat name when touring there in the 90's and named the song after them. Not that there are any lyrics really outright pertaining to urinals in the song but, killer name anyway.
DeJennsitized Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Wow, what a great idea and a lucky husband! You could do walking past Hyde Park at the end...do your reveal in front of it maybe! Walk down a deserted road for Boulevard of Broken Dreams...though good luck finding that in London Find an Armitage Shanks sink and just have you washing your hands as you go about your day maybe. I dunno if its a bit awkward to do but maybe walk past a bunch of venues they've played at near London...Wembley..Emirates...Brixton, etc. Maybe find a street sign that references Green Day...ooh maybe get off the tube at Green Park!
jengd Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Armitage Shanks do wash hand basins too if the poop suggestion above is too gross. How about going to a book shop and getting a hold of George Orwell's Wigan Pier, take a pic but with most of the 'pier' missing, UK fans know all about the Wigan show with the famous nativity play lol! How about a pic in a pub that does 80 shillings ale, again with the 80 for Adie and her song references. Good luck, what a fab idea.
strangestat Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 oh I just remembered this video, dunno if there are any references that would make sense to pull off:
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This is such a brilliant idea!
DeJennsitized Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 OHHHH! Go to the imperial war museum and either find the tank with 'devil' on it, the big bomb (it had a name but it escapes me) or, even better, the bible with a bullet in it

Knock on it like billie did in biab! Then the bible.
Chin for a Day Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I don't know anything about London, but great idea!
DeJennsitized Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 OMG wear a plastic/blow up/Burger King crown and walk past Buckingham Palace!! King For A Day
Second favourite son Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This is an awesome idea! Can't think of any good clues at the moment, but I'm based in London so feel free to drop me a PM if you need any London logistical tips/advice/directions etc!
moonj17 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 What a lovely gift. I don't know London, but I love, love, love this idea! I keep envisioning scattered pictures lying on the bedroom floor as part of your video. Whatever you decide to do, I think it is absolutely necessary to incorporate a cello at some point. Good luck with this very thoughtful project!
spark in the night Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Is Milton Keynes an option? I live across the pond so I don't know what I'm talking about lol. Maybe reference bullet in a bible somehow. Oh! Take a picture of Catcher in the Rye book. The inspiration behind the song Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?
Thatsername Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I wish I was your husband What a clever idea, you have to tell us how his reaction was afterwards. I've never been to London so I'm out, but I love the idea of going to the museum with Little Boy and the bullet in a bible. But that clue is so obvious, you should put it somewhere at the end.

Still, the entrance where they walk in on BIAB should still be recognisable I think!

This page suggests the tank is still there, and I'm pretty sure the bible is too, since they're in permanent galleries/exhibitions. But yeah, as @Jenn. said the outside still looks pretty much the same and the big atrium style gallery is there too, so you could certainly use those as a clue.
