ryuuro Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Hello everyone, I found a really interesting interview with Mike Dirnt, realised on November 9th, for the French Radio Station RTL2. It's in French, I translated it myself, hope you like it. It's really interesting, so i share it there http://www.rtl2.fr/culture/mike-dirnt-de-green-day-sur-trump-on-a-un-putain-d-idiot-a-la-maison-blanche-7785686651 Here is the translation: Green Day’s Mike Dirnt says on Trump: "We’ve had a fucking idiot at the White House" MEETING – The day after the victory of Donald Trump, RTL2.fr meets Mike Dirnt, the bassist of the pop-punk trio. Their last album"Revolution Radio", is more in the actuality than ever. Green Day’s Mike Dirnt is the bassist of the band. Their latest album "Revolution Radio" is out since October 7th. Paris, by a grey, cold, raining and windy morning. The word is still in shock after the surprising victory of Donald Trump for American elections. The business man will go to the White House on the January 20th. Most of the stars support Hillary Clinton, and now, they are totally disappointed. It’s the same for Green Day, the pop-punk trio is involved since their debuts 30 years ago. In October, the band shows their 12th studio album named Revolution Radio. This album seems very personal for Billie Joe Armstrong, who talks about his depression times, and talks about the darkness of the American society. Revolution Radio is now in tune with the actuality that the band didn’t expected. RTL2.fr meets Mike Dirnt really moved by the surprising victory of Donald Trump. The scary victory of Donald Trump "I feel like everyone. I am shocked. But I will try to be the same person. It doesn’t change anything at all at what I think, nor at what I thought 8 years ago", says Mike. He is dressed with black clothes and with his symbolic blond hair, he talks with a calm voice but not appease. "Power thrive on fear(...) People want that the things change, but they don’t know how it functioning, nor how to change them in a good way, so they took irrational decisions. I think many people voted for Trump secretly, and never tell it." Mike Dirnt says: "I don’t think that anyone who voted for Trump is idiot. I really think that they are many scared and frustrated Americans. It sucks. I am not happy. But now, we need to take the best in this bad situation. The situation is really bad. I think we have a fucking idiot at the White House. We have a puritan for vice president and a savage for president. I do not know where it will go, but for one moment, it will not go well, I imagine". Mike Dirnt says: "The vice president fears me. We will gonna lose our civil rights, women will loose their rights for their bodies… I do not know where we are going, but it is the sad thing. We have make great progress these past years, but control is in the hands of a white irritated aged man, it scares me." Green of rage Green Day is well-known for their engagement, their songs against powerful people and close-minded people. Every person who listen to pop-punk may have listened to the album American Idiot out in 2004, in an America still touched and traumatized by the September 11th. In the song American Idiot, Billie Joe Armstrong, who writes lyrics of the band, screams his wish to be independent against a society controlled by the medias. 12 Years later, Revolution Radio is aligned with American Idiot, but it is not a concept album. Mike Dirnt: "It is just songs about what is going on in the world, and the impact on us. They were written before we know that Trump would be a candidate. It’s the same for American Idiot, it was not an anti-Bush album. American Idiot talks about the fact to be lost, detached of what we saw around us.” “It is shit, I do not want to be like these fucking people." With Revolution Radio, Green Day have already anticipated a sad reality "Our album tends to be more and more pertinent, it is scary ! We need to write the next album with a completely different point of view, for things to end like they must." A tension is around Revolution Radio. Mike Dirnt: "That is a real Green Day". Billie Joe Armstrong tells his own story, with some things about the Contemporary American society. He described himself like a teenager who tends to violence like in Bang Bang, (song about a massacre in California). Green Day - "Bang Bang" "This young man who commits it, writes an opinion column on the internet. Bang Bang talks about the culture weapons and narcissism who goes with the idea of an identity on the web (...) I have not grew up with this culture. I became who I am before that computers had their importance. People see their popularity online like a huge portion of what they are in reality. They attached too much importance to it." Moving back The idea of this album was born after that Billie Joe Armstrong attend to a demonstration against violence on the police in New York : Mike Dirnt: "He were there and listened, he was attentive. There is many points of view on this in United States, but if you may have been in this situation, you actually need to concentrate in order to listen and have no comments on it. I know what it is to be scared when you are arrested like a white man, but I imagine what it could be if you are a black man." Mike Dirnt: "We are a reflect, we do not say, to people, in what they need to believe. Billie write songs about what he sees, his impressions. What we are doing, it is that we try to writes on our lives, but not in telling how people should be. We want that fans question everything. It is the base of changing." This album is personal, like in Forever Now, Billie Joe Armstrong tells his wandering experiences of rock star, with depression and rehab. Mike Dirnt: "This album is a redemption research, and of gratitude. He talks about our personal trip, Billie’s trip, reflect the world and the world that we see. We have experienced many things on the personal way. Billie was going to rehab, my wife had a breast cancer, Jason White had cancer too, people who work with us were at The Bataclan, it was horrible… After a moment, all of these things makes you step back, you are loving people. We need joy in this world." Live in the present moment Mike Dirnt: "Give a chance to peace. If people could understand that here everything is temporary. Nothing belongs to us. My iPhone does not belong to me, nor my pictures, nor my house. We are there temporary in this world, so… shit calm down ! Listen to music, you should enjoy it, we are there only for a moment. Stop believing you are this important, because at the international scale it is not true. If you don’t like people because they are not conform with your religion or political opinions or anything, stop with this immediately." Green Day - "Still Breathing" Mike Dirnt: "Stay faithful to your values, stay the same person and be the person who you want to be. I wish to see the country to seek more compassion than to be against the bi-partisan system (...) Whatever it is, people should continue to live like they want. We need to find humanity and humility." Mike Dirnt: "We are trying to stay ourselves and making music. As I said, I am 44 years old, I do not know how many years I still have, not 44 years for sure. I will stay passionnated, and I will not lose my mind anymore. As long as I am here, I will try to do more better good things." Green Day will have a concert at AccorHotels Arena on February 3rd , 2017. Mike Dirnt : "It is funny because it takes a very long time to succeeded here. We have played in subway stations, little clubs, but no matter how many people comes, historically, some of our best concerts were there." Mike Dirnt really wants to go on stage with Billie Joe Armstrong and Tré Cool. Mike Dirnt: "We just want to make music, set aside everything, have fun, we want to be connected with spectators and friends that we did not have seen since a really long time. We want to be entertainers, appreciate music, get together and take the control. Live the present moment."
That Dude Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 They were written before we know that Trump would be a candidate. It’s the same for American Idiot, it was not an anti-Bush album.
